  • Coming out of high school, Hudson Card was a borderline 5 star quarterback and was the future of Texas Longhorns football. Sadly, his first three seasons in a burnt orange uniform didn’t go as planned, but now he is headed up to Indiana to play quarterback for new Purdue head football coach Ryan Walters and he could save his career there. Today, we are going to talk about his insane rise, his Texas career and why he could save Purdue, enjoy!

Purdue stole a good one that could have gone anywhere.
Hudson led the B12 in QBR and completion percentage with a bum ankle in an offense that didn’t allow him to run, yet he had 2 great comeback drives against Bama and Tech where he bailed out the Horns.
The donors paid for Quinn, and he was always getting the job, there was big controversy about the announcement of the starter in’22, Sark got bulldozed by the BMD’s.
His deep ball is great, and Graham needs to use it.

Card completed 69.1%, 6TDs & 1int in '22. Had a QB rating of 79.3 & pass efficiency of 158.1. Those stats would both rank as top 20 QB last season if he had more snaps to qualify! Card also has quickness to extend plays and speed to run for 1st downs. Smart. I've seen every college snap and many of his HS snaps. Card has improved every year. Believe Card will have similar qb ratings or better than last year. Purdue got a really good and improving college QB. Believe Card will ultimately be drafted into the NFL.

He is DEFINITELY NOT Aidan O'Connell. There will be a huge drop-off through the air. A million 5-7 yard screens this year in Harrell's offense. Will throw 35-60 times a game. Very little vertical passing. O'Connell was composed, could sling it all over. Card seems like a great kid and is way more mobile than O'Connell but can Card throw vertically? Harrell loves WR screens so perhaps they wont throw deep much.

@@collegebro85 He's not getting fired even with a down year in 2023. If Sark is fired, the 2023 class led by Arch will hit the portal. @@thekat77 thing is, Del Conte did that exact thing with Herman after a 10-2 record and NY6 Bowl win! We lost Ehlinger for one more season and really had to reset the program (especially with Sark’s overhaul of coaching and “his guys”)…however, and unless we have some magical run, Sark will end up with a worse record than Herman and thereby SHOULD be held to the same standard! If not, as you say, then that will further prove our AD is incompetent and the program is truly in shambles of mediocrity…

Sark may have a worse record if he doesn’t turn things around, but CDC also needs to make sure this job is still very attractive long term. That means making it a stable job (e.g. 4+ years to get it right) that attracts rather than scare away future coaches. My $.02

This will be graham harrell’s test at developing qb’s. Getting them seeing eye to eye with his offense. It’s a bit of strip of sorts with anyone that isn’t familiar with leach’s style. Graham has deviated from it, slightly, but key cogs are what key cogs are in the air raid. How’s the reaction to space? His ability to read defenses and play calling. Hot reads.

Got the chance to watch Card during his time at Lake Travis High School and Texas. He is much more than a QB, he is an excellent athlete and has WR speed. (Note he was a WR at LTHS before moving to QB) If Purdue runs a pass-happy offense he will flourish. Texas restricted him and limited him from rolling out of the pocket. #5 LTHS in the videos above is Garrett Wilson (NY Jets)

Texas alum here and longtime fan going back to the 1969-70 national championship season... yeah, I'm old!
I was impressed with Hudson Card on several levels... he's smart, athletic and very tough physically.
He had earned an important QB role on his hometown college team, but he had a couple of nagging injuries which he played through and the Longhorns got the transfer commitment from Quinn Ewers and the pressure was on Card. For Boilermaker fans who may not be familiar with Ewers, he went to the Ohio State Buckeyes with a monumental reputation from Texas high school football...he had been committed to Texas but ultimately signed with Ohio State because of the fluid coaching situation Texas was experiencing at the time.
It would have been very difficult for Coach Sarkisian to choose not to play Ewers, given his outsized reputation. Ewers does have intriguing talent...as they say, "he can make all the throws."
Card played well, especially against Alabama when Ewers was injured in the first half of the game. Card very nearly engineered an upset versus Bama and wasn't the reason Texas fell just short.
Card is an excellent QB and I think he'll do well at Purdue.
Absent the situation with the coaching change and Ewers at Texas, I believe Card could have developed into a conference champion -type QB...if he had been the starter in Austin without having to look over his competition at a legendary five-star, he could have settled in and developed. I think his Junior and Senior years could have been outstanding. Maybe that'll be the case for the Boilermakers with Card leading the offense.
