  • This is the first step to see if I can get some camellia cuttings to root! I took 25 cuttings from one of our camellia cuttings in the front garden. Camellia are beautiful fall and winter blooming evergreen shrubs. They do very well here in Middle TN. Our camellias get sun in the late afternoon but generally are in a semi shaded location for most of the day.
Since I needed to prune the camellias I figured it would be a great time to take some cuttings and try to get them to root. I'll update later to show you how well they did and IF they actually root. I've rooted 1 cutting once before so I know it's possible, can I replicated it with these 25 camellias?

Also In the video I talk about rooting hormone since I've had a number of questions about what it is. This is an affiliate link to Amazon to the same type of rooting hormone I used in this video: amzn.to/39jjrBJ
Thanks for watching and I hope this was helpful!

Camellias are so beautiful 🌱🌸 It's a big shrub so you have enough material for your cuttings 🌱✂️🌱👍

Thank you for your video. It was very informative. I wanted to share a photo of what I did because I’m pretty proud of myself, but I don’t know how I can add it but… So we’ll see how it goes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

What camera or phone are you using? The colors that it picks are so wonderful! Thank you for your show. You don’t over talk your presentation but you do include all the necessary information without getting too ‘chatty’ or putting too much ‘personality’ in. Just right!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Can i use soil instead for the cutti gs?or is it possible rooting in water??

I don't think water will work. They seem to take a long time and would probably rot eventually if just in water. You could try soil but I like using mediums that are inert. Meaning they are generally free of disease vectors. Sand, peat, vermiculite, perlite all can be used well. Lately I've been using a layer of fine bark chips covered with sand which seems to be effective.

Did ever work?? Did they root?

They did. It took a long time but eventually I rooted several. The winter freeze killed off a few I had potted up outdoors but I still had some in rooting medium in our garage. Those 3 are well rooted and potted up now.

They take a long time to root so I don't think they will root in just water.
