I worked in a UPS warehouse for 2 years and let me tell you, coming from construction, it was the most physically demanding job I’ve ever had. The craziest part is you would expect like a bunch of young guys to be there but nope almost everyone there is like 40/50 or older and still out working the young guys. I would always ask why they are still doing this and almost 100% of the time it’s because they wanted the benefits for their kids. Those were some real men.

Even walking an average speed of 4 mph, you could easily hit that many miles in a 10+ hour day. I know someone who works in the warehouse currently, whose father also worked at UPS for almost 50 years as a package driver and then a transfer truck operator. I also worked as a temporary driver for a while. The job does pay well once you get to be a driver, but those driver positions fill up extremely quickly. It's not really a hard job if you're moderately in shape, but can be very boring sometimes. The people who get those jobs don't quit very often so if the local area has no openings it could take more than 5 years of working in the warehouse before a position opens up. My friend has been trying to get in as a package driver for about 3 years now in his area, but it's been pretty difficult.

For regular drivers (RPCDs) they start at 21 an hour and hit around 41 an hour after 4 years and they work mon through friday.
