Cars now are immensely heavier than they were 100 years ago. Even though modern materials are lighter, the safety features required by law are bulky and heavy themselves, but it also means bigger frame and even more weight. Over time electric motors have only improved in efficiency a small amount compared to the efficiency of gains of internal combustion. The result is the average mile per kWh for EVs is lower now than 100 years ago because of weight, but the mpg of gas and diesel cars are a little bit better now than they were in spite of the increased weight (even excluding hybrids). For example my nearly 20 year old Buick has the same MPG as a model T ford even though it weighs nearly 3 times more

@@Wizard__J - I'm not old enough to have remembered when a Model T was common, but my next door neighbor told me that his first car -- this must have been the early 1930s -- was a second-hand Model T. However, I do know that before fuel injection gave our cars an automatic prime of fuel, and multi-vis oil was not that good, and all-weather batteries didn't exist, cars were hard to start when they were cold. So I presume that even a little 20 HP four-cylinder motor in a Model T was hard to start in the winter if all you had was your arm to turn the crankshaft.

I think that the production is precisely the opposite of what you're describing. I can't retain ANY of it because there is absolutely no continuity whatsoever. It's unbelievable. It's a series of random jump cuts, no relationships between elements, and misplaced value priorities. They spent quite a while talking about how much and why they loved the Lucid (which is an absolutely horrible name for a car company - any company, in fact), yet I saw nothing to love about it. It looked like it belonged in the office suite of a CEO, and not even a CEO of a tech company, but more like a youngish, middle aged, international money market fund management company CEO. I didn't see any of the kind of excitement that people get in a Miata, for example. Anyway, the production/presentation is by far the worst part of this video, in my view. In fact, it almost undermines the substance of it. Thankfully there's enough substance at least in the parts about the 1909 Baker, which this really should have been about exclusively.

Donut Media is not "twice as big as Jay Leno"...
Look into what Mr. Jay Leno spends his time & money on: help for disabled veterans, training scholarships & opportunities in auto service & restoration, creating a museum rather than dozens of dead cars, etc. etc...
All Donut Media has is a great RUclips Channel, but I doubt that people will want to see the pile of wrecks & the handful of cool cars that they made. This is fine, as Donut Media is out to entertain while informing gear heads. And that pile of wrecks are necessary to test the good and bad ideas that aftermarket parts companies sell with overstated to fraudulent claims

It's because of really outdated societal norms
Men are supposed to be tough, so the vibration smoke and noise of an engine shouldn't bother them.
Women were stereotyped as sensitive so a quiet electric motor was for them because it would, in their minds, make them happier than a gas car.
The same stuff happened with gun Design too, guns for women were typical small, with diminutive calibers and low capacity.

If they were on TV, the production wouldn't be anything close to this. It would be sterile and boring, full of ultra basic facts and information for a general audience. To avoid that kind of "corporate sterilization," they'd have to air on a specialized network, like Motor Trend. Then their ratings and viewership would plummet because that's such a small, niche market in the world of television.
The best car show that ever aired on TV would probably be Roadkill, and even they've moved to more profitable streaming services now.
TL;DR: If Donut moved to television, it wouldn't be the same production we love. They have more freedom and better connection to their audience by streaming their content.

@13:00 The average price of an EV has drastically come down since the end of 2022. Kelly Blue Book says that for June 2023 the average price for an EV is $53,438. Kelly also has revised the ICE price to $48,808. That's only $4,630 difference. Subtract $7,500 for the federal tax incentive for purchasing an EV and the average EV is cheaper than the average new ICE.

Met Jay Leno twice last year just so I could buy his ONE Owner 1996 GTS Viper. But of course you knew what happened, he said NO. Well either way he signed two different books for my enthusiast 10 year old boy RAHIM. And we got another one owner GTS Viper 1996 with under 8k miles from Austin, TX.
Only bought this non one owner deal because of Jay Leno!
Its going 20 miles east of current location.

Oh and how one can find gasoline EVERYWHERE in 1907 because of Standard Oil. Up until its breakup in the 1910's, Standard Oil has been a fixture in automotive development and history. Every single famous historical race is fueled by Standard Oil gasoline, every achievement using the internal combustion engine like the first airplane flight was powered by Standard Oil fuel...

Edit: Oh now that I saw the part about Lucid having a regular trunk instead of a hatchback for handling, I know you guys are paid shills. There's many ways to make a car more rigid, and most EVs handle quite well because of the weight of the batteries lowering the center of gravity anyway. Kind of lame if all the Lucid has over Tesla Plaid is a regular trunk for better handling. They could have improved on Tesla's poor build quality or shitty customer service but they decided to focus on the trunk, nice!

The Doble steam cars deserve more appreciation as well. And the model that came out in 1925 should really get a modern upgrade, and it would probably dominate the transportation industry. Fill it up with water and you're ready to go!! But there's actually a patent for a car that runs on compressed air as well. But supposedly, if anyone started building such a device in production fashion, a car company would hire someone to have him killed. Or just the government in general would have him silenced.
