Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。Oops! I came here too early. For further information of this performance, I would like to defer to other knowledgeable fans like Grington300 300, Rick Wagner, Jake Muller, autohmae etc. I love their narratives.
I teared up when I listened to this song for the first time and still do. I had never imagined that I would be taught by a 16-year-old girl (as of Dec. 2013) a sorrow or heartbreaking emotion which is occasionally incidental to love or loss of it. Our souls are cleansed or purified by Su's voice. I witnessed Akatsuki which was revived on Feb.19 last year at Budokan with Su's matured voice. It was partially unfinished version. I can't explain how beautiful it was with my vocabulary.

Excellent content and reaction. This was a one-off performance of this "unfinished" version done for a specific reason and relating to the show as a whole and the performance of 'BABYMETAL Death' which was to follow.
The whole of Legend 1997, this concert celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday, was about her transitioning from Suzuka Nakamoto, the J-Pop Idol, sacrificing that existence to be reborn as Su-metal, the Metal Goddess chosen to lead the Metal Resistance and the fight against the domination of the music industry by the Idol system.
So that was the lore ... that aside this was a beautiful performance by a 16 year old. Not many girls that age could either put that much emotion into their voice and performance, even fewer might get that emotion across to their audience.
The "full" version of 'Akatsuki' has exactly the same lyrics and melody - yet it could easily be a completely different song.

The full version of the song has an additional line at the end.
      "Dye crimson. Dye bloody crimson."
This version is called "unfinished" because that last line is not sung.

    A Su-metal classic.
'Akatuski' was her first solo song with BABYMETAL.
It was released with the 'Megitsune' single in June of 2013.
I think it's interesting she omits the final two lines of the song in this "Unfinished" version:
    "Dye crimson! Dye bloody crimson!".
Su had performed the heavier version several times before this, and many times afterwards, but this is the only time the "Unfinished" version was ever performed.
This December 21st, 2013 'Legend 1997' concert celebrating her birth (in 1997), was held the day after her 16th birthday.

I must admit it makes my blood boil whenever see people making negative comments about her voice, it is unusual to western ears who are not used to how Japanese sound, I guess that is why they commonly associate Babymetal with anime, they think the girls are imitating anime when in actual fact anime imitates Japanese culture rather than the other way around. Luckily those who actually know something about the music and performance arts do give credit where it is due, not only is she a great singer but she is also one of the great front people of music and at such a young age she is only going to get better

Nice reaction. 16-year-old Su moving are emotions like veteran singer of many years. She's got more talent and skills in her pinky than should be allowed. But Su became are queen that night so it's all good. All these years later and that's still the only time she has done this version. I'm beginning to think she really likes the more metal songs. lol Now you're going to have to react to the more energized version of the song. Beware Su's death stare during those versions. She could stop a charging Rhino with it. Enjoy the rest of your journey through the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Poor Su pours her heat out and they crucified her afterwards ( know you watched BabyMetal Death afterwards so not a spoier)
Su's performances can be so emotional it makes old metalheads cry 😢 me ? it's a bit of dust got in my eyes 😭 ❤🤘🦊🤘

There are plenty of metal singers that has power and range (Floor or Tarja), but Su's the only one that makes you feel the song... hearing her voice slightly cracking, the pained smile look on her face, the slight hesitation and emotions in her voice.... She doesn't just sing the song. She feels it and makes you feel it. Su's not just a singer, but an overall spectacular performer. Akatsuki Unfinished and No Rain No Rainbow (from Legend S) is probably the best showcase of her ability to make you feel a song. I don't no any japanese, but these two always brings the onion ninja's, whenever I watch it. 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🤘🦊🤘

This is my favorite version of Akatsuki. It does justice to the lyric of the song:
Shining in the depths of the eyes,
the moon is about to cry.
    Red tears overflow
    and dye the night sky.

    In the silence,
the two damaged blades stand face to face.
    Our loneliness and our uneasiness
    slash even our hearts.

    Going over thousands nights,
    some love shall survive.
    So, until my body perishes,
    until my life disappears,
I shall keep on cherishing this love.
There is a harder version of this song but I prefer this one. This is a wrenching love song and I don't feel the guitar solos in the rockier version (complete with metal face pulling) fit with the intent of the song. Don't get me wrong, the other version is good, but I just feel that the Unfinished version better conveys the meaning and emotion written into the lyrics.
A great reaction, keep the good stuff coming.

Su-metal is not just an amazing singer, but her most amazing quality might be her ability to project emotion. Happy or sad, exciting, etc. And this performance was just when she turned 16.
she has said in the past she might take 6 months until she feels to really understand a song and knows how to put her emotion in to it.
This performance is an amazing example of that, because if you compare the other version it's totally different.

Definitely, Su-metal toys with my emotions. Never ever a singer or a band caused that effect on me. And that feeling is is so direct to me and so and strong, even not understanding Japanese. Suzuka is called the Queen for a good reason 😊

Every time again, this song just hits quite deep.
This young girl, who is by now a young woman, is so much more than you might think at first glance. Not what you normally get from Babymetal, but songs like these have turned Su for me into what many call her. A princess. 🖤
And yes, I used the plural, because with 'No rain, no rainbow' there is another song/performance that hits quite similar. If you are interested, I recommend the performance of the concert entitled 'Legend - S - Baptism XX', which took place in her home town of Hiroshima shortly before her 20th birthday.

The ""Unfinished Akatsuki" is my favorite version of the song because it really highlights Su's voice and emotional delivery. There are themes of sacrifice and lasting love in the song and Su really communicates these even if you don't understand Japanese. This performance comes between the manic energy of "Headbanger" and the insanity of the "Babymetal DEATH" finale. Akatsuki is translated as "Crimson Moon" and there is lots of red imagery in the lyrics including the crimson thread that links lovers and soulmates. Su starts the song from the same position on the platform as she finished Headbanger. Its a great trilogy of songs that takes Su from schoolgirl to rebirth as a metal goddess...yeah I know, just go with it, #notacult. The song "Amore" is it's thematic partner so that might be a good one to review next.
