Video of the difficult driving conditions today in Little Rock. 7-10 inches of snow was reported around the area. Video includes multiple slide offs and accidents including a state trooper trying to use their vehicle to push a car up a on-ramp and vehicles tires spinning on slick roads. Sound byte from Kimberly Marks a nurse who was on her way home after a 20 hour shift and slid off the road on a on ramp that had multiple vehicles sliding around blocking the road. Also some shots around Little Rock including the capitol.

Just a little friendly advice from someone who has lived in a northern state and a southern state.
    1) Stay at home.
    2) If you are an essential employee, try to get a ride with someone who has a high clearance 4WD vehicle, and is a safe and experienced driver.
    3) If you are stuck in deep snow, the worst thing you can do is to hit the gas pedal and cause your drive wheels to spin.
This will only melt the snow, leaving water on top of ice or icy snow, and dig your wheels in deeper. Then you'll definitely need a tow.
    4) Suggested technique that *may* help to free your vehicle if you are stuck on a hard surface, and not on an incline.
    5) Carefully "rock" your vehicle, using less gas pedal pressure, going forward a little, then hold the vehicle with the brake pedal while switching to reverse. Then slightly back up, then hold the car still with the brakes, and shift to drive.
    6) Have patience and don't overdo this because you can cause transmission problems if you do it too much.
    7) Take a break if you're not making progress.
    8) Don't panic.
    9) Another very important rule is to keep your front wheels STRAIGHT. If the front wheels are turned even slightly, it's going to make it impossible to get traction.
Keeping front wheels straight will give you maximum traction, which is already very little. The more your drive wheels spin, the less traction you're going have. Snow gives some traction. Wet snow less. Ice: zero.
    10) If you're going to have to wait it out in your car, do not keep the engine running constantly. Turn it on for 10 minutes with the heat on. Then turn off for 10 minutes. Keep a window cracked for fresh air. You don't want carbon monoxide to get into the car. It's an odorless gas that can kill you if it builds up in a closed vehicle.
Be safe everyone. We'll get through this big snow if we use our brains, be patient and help each other.
    God bless.

If you’re stuck & do run your car for heat, make sure the exhaust pipe is cleared of snow so monoxide doesn’t back into the vehicle

If you can not safely walk around outside, how are you suppose to drive in it. As an over the road truck driver, I have had many experiences with icy conditions. Northerners tend to ignore southern reality. In the southern states that get maybe at most a week of snow and ice on the roads, days instead of months, the governments do NOT invest in a fleet of snow plows or salt. The auto and tire stores do NOT stock up on snow tires or chains. These cars are driving on snow and ice that have not and will not be plowed or salted. Those that have landscaping and lawn mowing businesses do NOT invest or do any snow plowing of parking lots or residential streets. At best the small towns and counties may drop some sand on bridges and at stop light intersections which will most likely be blown away by gusting winds within minutes. While traffic will wear down the ice on major roads, parking lots and residential streets will remain icy until the ice and snow melts...

I live in Missouri and this ocassionally happens here, When you have ice and then snow covers it you have a worse case scenario. Even though we have a degree of preparedness here it's not worth much in those conditions, it can be done and I do because my jobs requires that I be able to respond but I have years of experience and preparedness. I never realized how many little things we/I do in the way of preparing until I read here of people in this situation that are not and why would you, like I have a snow blower that sits for years on end without enough snow to run it, they probably don't even sell them there,,and why would they. You have it worse there than we do here currently, it's been really cold but the majority is comfortable, I wish you all luck and if you need any more capitan obvious remarks or advice,, scroll down! 😂
