This report really doesn't do the situation justice. For two weeks the streets have been choke full of people protesting the parliamentary rule. Hundreds have been randomly detained and beaten, hunted in the streets after protests and even at their homes. Many of the opposition figures have been arrested on token charges. The parliamentary rule has been employing a massive police force and water cannons to quell the protests, and even thug gangs, dubbed titushky, have been attacking, beating and even abducting participants with full impunity or even cooperation from the police.
The "new president" was not chosen in a democratic election. It was unilaterally elected by the Georgian Dream PMs in a closed doors ceremony in which he was the only candidate, while the opposition PMs refused to participate. This is a recent change the majority GD politicians implemented and the first "election" of its kind in modern Georgia. Other recent changes includes prohibiting the sale and possession of material associated with the protests, like fireworks and gas masks. Even through that, the public's participation in the protests has only grown, many economic sectors have joined the cause in protest, from the usual suspects like academia and arts, to surprises like hotels, restaurants and even _insurance_ . The general sentiment against the current rule seems to span all sectors of the population.

just curios, what would you do, if you win the election, but the smaller half of the country would not accept it, disrupt everything, unwilling to accept the loss and doing everything against the majority. When Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol, it was considered as an assault against the democracy. When Georgian protesters are trying to make the state nonfunctional, it's presented in western media as a fight for Europe against bad Russia. But there were international observers present at Georgian parlamentary votes and even OBSE said, that there were some incidents (one man tried to vote multiple times, etc), but they (as many others) considered votes as regular. Question is, who decides, if the votes should be approved or denied by world? Biden administration? Ursula? Putin? Xi Jinping? or most of the voters in the country?

@@biornr.4031 the "secrecy of vote" was violated and it was visible for everyone to see who voted for whom. Secondly there have been proven facts of bribery and people working in the public government funded sectors were under pressure of losing their jobs etc. all these evidences were collected by The president Salome Zurabishvili and they went to constitutional court but 10 out of 12 judges said that nothing was wrong. However it's been known for years that georgian constitutional court is not independent and they're simply just doing what they're told. Which was proven by thousands of facts and there's a whole chain and connection about why they're not independent . The government controls every legal and institutional way and the only thing that we have left is Protest in the streets.

Every member of the majority party is a puppet of one person, the de facto leader, for whom they press the "yes" button for the laws they approve.
That person is the only billionaire in the country, and he made all that fortune in Russia after the Soviet collapse. His fortune, I believe, is equivalent to around more than a third of the country's GDP.
They rigged the elections. They took away IDs from people and had their henchmen vote multiple times. They had their own people working at the voting facilities.
Now tell me how democratic that sounds.
Bonus: The majority party ran on the "To Europe, but with dignity" campaign and 1 month after the elections they said, "actually, we're stopping all the talks about joining the EU until 2028".

The international organisation OSCE was tasked to observe and report on the parliament elections in Georgia. Their initial report stated that although there were several incidents during the voting, there was no reason to call these elections not valid. In other words, they were free and fair enough to be legit.
People have the democratic right to protest but not to change the outcome of a democratic, free and fair election, and for sure not to attack the police with fire works.
The incumbent President, however, is inciting these violent protests and refuses to obey the constitutional election process in her country. If she refuses to step down, she is acting against the law and should be arrested.
