I'm aware this transcription is a bit off. When I have the time, I may re-do it with added corrections or go into the comments like this and make a master list of all the errors. Most of the broad strokes of the harmony are there but there's some rhythmic and note choices that I definitely missed
I think my favorite part of this transcription is how in the original context, it is presented in a very ironic, comedic way, but here, it appears like a truly serious composition-- because, jokes aside, it is.
All I can picture is me sitting in front of a cake in embarrassment for the longest minute in a half of my life. Even worst if it’s at a restaurant sitting there with the weird hat the waiter put on your head and a dining room of curious patrons starring at you.
Just spent ten minutes figuring out at 1:15 it is really B-flat add 13 resolving to D-flat Maj7, or a II Major chord resolving to the IV. I know I’m a beginner, but what a simple core harmony so beautifully decked out like that.
I know, it's my favorite bit of the arrangement!! I just had a listen and I always suspected there was a half step motion between those two chords. I'd put it at a B-flat over D, then resolving to a D-flat maj7 I think
I remember when I first heard that song I nearly cried. The musical composition and tone it has with the harmonies are flawless. Thanks for making sheets for this
Please, somebody do this with their choir and record it 🙏 Am I also the only one that went through and sung every single voice part? It was too good to pass up.

Good job overall. Slightly weird notation though. If you write it in 4/4 and you get rid of all of the weird dotted 8th notes...which would actually sound syncopated in 9/8 time. You actually have half of it in 9/8 and the other half in 12/8 in terms of how many beats you have in a measure. Either way, write it in 4/4 and you just get whole notes and half notes.
@@jonathanveenker6981It’s an exaggeration. The point I’m trying to make is that you don’t have to be a smartass when listening to music, just appreciate it and shut up. Does @David Butler actually think that the person who created the cover is gonna go “my bad, I’m gonna fix the music I spent hours creating”. Seriously, just create your own cover of the song, don’t be a Bezzerwizzer and criticise the guy for creating something different.
@@eyvithorgeirsson6028 I think you're super confused here. The person above wasn't being a smart ass at all, nor were they criticizing the actual arrangement. The comment was purely about the notation.
Tysm ima learn this for my sis her birthday is literally tomorrow so ima learn as much as I can even if I end up having to duet myself or sing any parts I can play
Do you mean voice leading? Counterpoint is usually something like a fugue or canon, or imitative entries, all between multiple parts, and there's none of that there
Bar 11 treble staff sounds like a G rather than an Ab on beat 1 and I think there's a high Eb on beat 2, could just be an overtone though. Great job though, super dense stuff, really nice to see it laid out!
I'd like to put a trombone choir together to have this played for my grandfather's birthday, is there a way I can get the Sibelius file to have it arranged, if you'd be so kind?
That’s the link to the original here, but youtube tends to delete comments with links in them. ruclips.net/video/R2Eotw3IxN4/видео.html The version transcribed here is the final/top tier/ level of happy birthday reharmonisation that Cornell does.

I'd love to see an updated version!
Same!
It would be a pleasure to see an updated version of this song.
and please please PLEASE include chord symbols
I want this too!
love that all i want for christmas is you reference at the start
LOL YES
WOAH🤯
MIND = BLOWN
And would have fared well as well if he uses the intro piano riff from Mariah Carey version at the end of this video.
Huh. Yup.
When? I don’t hear it lol

then you'll love quartal progressions
0:42 that was heavenly
So - as Jimmy was concerned of, there were 11 Charles Cornell"s" while there were only 4 appeared in the video lol
and with this, jimmy ascended to heaven on his very first birthday

This was super cool to follow along with. Almost makes me want to get enough people to actually pull this off in person heh
I'm always reminded of the Beach Boys when I hear the harmonies - but Charles Cornell is a genius, as are you for this crazy transcription!
listening to this alone and wishing myself for my 19th birthday at 3 AM. Everyone forgot, lmao. Wish you all the best!
I was expecting it to slip into a microtonal key signature at any point
the bass just saying ooo for 36 seconds
literally first 10s im reminded how much our boi loves the IV to iv… cant complain tho
I got recommended this on my birthday.
Amazing arrangement. God bless who posted it on RUclips
Please, somebody do this with their choir and record it 🙏

Charles I love you. Thanks for transcribing mate
Gonna teach this to my choir and sing it on birthdays.
Plot twist: All of the singers are celebrating their own and each other's birthday
FINALLY SOMEOME DID IT

WOW !!! thanks a lot

This might just be the most creative rickroll there is.
You are my hero.
My god there are so many juicy chord changes in this
Wow… this is beautiful dude! Im in awe! O.o
How did I miss thiss
Bar 11 give that juicy chord some credit lol. Dbmaj9 (no 5th) / F
yay it's been about three weeks now but finally a song to celebrate my late joyous day 🥰
Как красиво! Так филигранно звучат все аккорды и эти еле уловимые ухом переходы. Аж мурашки по коже!😍
1:00 - 1:01 dayyyyy 👍

Happy birthday Jimmy!
Cha cha cha
Happy birthday Jimmy
No but I want a transcription of the level 1 theme
Beautiful
if nobody sings this exact version of happy birthday on my 16th, i don’t want it
I'm guessing the last beat in measure 17 is a Eb9 chord resolving to Db major 7th add 9th. Vocal harmony is so amazing!
sweet

being bass singer was a pleasure
i love you
Some really great colors in this! Check the rules for how to split syllables in English. That will help you in your future arranging
You can hear the collier inspiration in the piece. Beautiful!
If they hadn't used any specific name, Jimmy! Everyone could have used this beautiful masterpiece.
Great counter point at the beginning

Man all these lucky Jimmy

Can you also do the row row row your boat level 5? Thanks
Ah yes the formata over a rest. Feared by many.
It's all about the notes you're not playing
That song smells like a yoghurt cake
synesthesia at its finest
Enchanting! A 4/4 endearing treatment.
Fermatas not withstanding. All that is missing is Marilyn Monroe.

I think you missed a voice in the 3rd bar. It sounds like more than the melody moves on the second beat
I feel like the lower voices could have been more recognized

It’s like beach boys birthday.
My dad sometimes goes by Jim.
CAN YOU TRANSCRIPT THE ONE HE DID BUT WITH MINOR CHORDS NOT CHANGING THE MELODY?
I may give it a shot at some point

Hi my name is Debbie rumble I have birthday on. The 7th of May
This sounds like The Beach Boys
Was about to say this.
Ngl I almost had a religious experience while listening to this
got beach boys vibes from bar 15 onwards
I hear Jacob Collier in this
Why I get Winnie Pooh vibes?
Why is my face wet
This is so Eric Whitacre. Lol
Yo was this written for Mr Beast?
