I move around all of the brands at the shop and Can-Am's generally feel like higher quality then some others. As I've learned from their 4 wheelers, all that goes out the window when complex electronic issued pop up, and the cost of parts and the amount of time to obtain them can be another issue. When you drop it into gear it's close to automotive quality, very few squeaks and rattles and a confidant feeling overall. We don't sell Can-Ams but for a guy that moves machines 6 days a week, I enjoy them and tolerate most of the others.
I don’t own one of these but probably would if I hadn’t purchased my new KRX a year ago and dumped a ton of money in it. I pay attention a lot to the SXS segment and can tell u that the new Commander is in a class of its own. The only 2 close competition it has is the General and R-Max, but those machines are still totally different in one big way. Those 2 machines seat height and position are no where close to as low and sporty as the new Commander. This new Commander is a sport utv with a bed! Think of it like this, if you have ever took the chance to sit in a Polaris Ranger, then a General, then a RZR, you would be like wow what a difference in the feel of these machines! The Ranger feels like your driving a bus with the bench seat, steering wheel position, and straight up tall seating position. The General is much better, comfortable, with buckets, and feels like it wants to be sporty. Then u sit in a RZR and it’s that low, sports car feeling buggy. Well this machine is that low sports car feeling buggy with a dump bed! It is in a class of its own! I want one bad!
I just purchased the 21 Commander Max XT(4 seater). In this video he says the XT comes with the roof- just want to say the 4 seater does not... that sucks! I haven't had a chance to take mine on an off road ride yet but it sure looks great and rides super smooth up and down the street...lol. i love the blue color :)
Still waiting for someone to get a Commander 700 to do a real world test on. It's almost $6000 CDN cheaper so that's a game changer if it's at all comparable. Can the 700 tow as well? How much does it lose on the top end? Is the extra 300 CC really that big of a difference to justify the huge price jump? I'm holding off on putting down a deposit until I know more.
Of course it’s worth it. You’re talking The difference between 52 hp and 100 hp. Doesn’t matter if all the towing specs are the same the 700 ain’t gonna do it nearly as good as the 1000 and it will certainly suffer on the top end
I know I'm a little late to the party on this lol. Did you end up ordering one? I bought a 700 commander in March and it's been really fun. I haven't towed much with it, but lets be honest, if you're towing, you're not going for top speed and will be in low gear towing 2000lbs to keep from frying your belt. I can't justify the extra cost of the 1000, but that's just me! Of course a 1000 would probably smoke my 700. Lol
A really good deal came up on a used 2012 commander 1000 not long after I posted this. The top speed is just below 110 km/h but the towing has been really good. I have pulled some really big loads of firewood home up some pretty steep hills and it's really surprised me. Now there are some reviews of the 700 and even in the defender it can reach 105 km/h. When my old Ranger dies I'll probably get a 700 defender and just use the 1000 commander for joy rides with the girlfriend.
I hit the thumbs-up as you did such a good job on this video. A good buddy of mine just bought one so I looked up to see what the commander is about. Thanks.
Thank you for a very informative and entertaining video. When I saw oyur speedometer hit 113 in 11 seconds, I thought, "That thing is a rocket" compared to my 2019. Then I realized that it was KPH not MPH. LOL!
Id like to see a video comparing noise levels of this commander , Rmax, and the General. I’m doubtful theres much difference when operating . Be great to see at idle., mid rpm and full throttle !
Excellent Review. I just picked mine up last week. Spent 6mo waiting for it, and there are only a few videos online about it. I'm going to be testing it this weekend to see what it will do. Very excited about that. I got the X-MR.

The interior quality is not even close to the RMax. And the Rmax has a full center console and armrest. The seats in this thing are almost touching each other. The driver and passenger will be banging shoulders. Performance is likely similar.
@@duanesnow424 it’s quieter then the older commander and way less heat , the ride is a little stiff at slow speeds but handles nice on the hard pack. I raised the seats 1.5 inches because I am tall
This video is more proof that CanAm screwed up the clutch weighting on the Commanders. They should be turning 7000+ rpm with the pedal down, not dogging it.
