Someone broke into my truck and stole my expensive camera and wallet. After dealing with restoring my identity with new cards to replace everything in my wallet, an old friend and his wife visit me at my log cabin, bearing gifts. I've been spending more time away from my off grid homestead than normal, and I explain why and how that caused the theft of my camera gear. Gone is a Canon 1DX, Manfrotto tripod, Oakley sunglasses and more.

“I’m not gonna let that get me down.” That’s hard to say, as anyone who has had a big financial hit or known the violation of theft knows. But, it’s exactly how we should live our lives. Great sentiment, and inspires me to keep this in mind. Thanks for the contagious positive attitude.

Shawn I feel your pain! Few months back some loser broke into my truck and stole a good portion of my tools that I need for work. Sickens me people resorte to theft instead of working hard. Hope they catch the punks!

Mom and dad taught me the ethics of working to get what I wanted and needed. If I couldn’t afford it, I didn’t need it. So I strived to worked my way up the “corporate ladder” by showing enthusiasm and desire to learn. I wish everyone had that desire. But like weeds in the grass, thieves are a nuisance and are never satisfied. God Bless you Mr and Mrs Shawn Jacobs. I pray your equipment is recovered or replaced so that we can continue to enjoy such beautiful and tranquil scenery.
We feel ya! We live in Jacksonville Fl, and last week we had home invasion while I was out of town and my wife and daughter were at work. They stole everything we owned and destroyed the rest. We refuse to give up. Onward. Never give up Hope.

Thieves are like cancer. Even when they dont kill you they severely affect your life. So sorry you got robbed!
Unfortunately both of those things are caused by the flaws in human society. Complain about thieves but ignore poverty, complain about cancer but continue to smoke and drink.
God is Dead; I know many people who live in "poverty," and yet, are honest, humble and carring. A thief is a thief is a thief, they come from all backgrounds and all quarters. Do not defend thievery!

I am sitting here reading this and thinking to myself..."Is there nowhere safe left in this world?" I am so sorry this happened to you and I am so glad that it didn't happen at your cabin...that has to make you feel some better. I hope the insurance comes through for all of the stuff you lost too. I hate when people steal...they need to go out and work for things, just like the rest of us have to. On a bright note, I have to say that I so love it when you film wild animals...their precious little faces and actions just bring such happiness to me. What @federick moller said, probably a meth head. I never, ever leave anything in my car and it's still broken into. One time some dumbass crackhead couldn't figure out where the glovebox button was (it wasn't locked) so broke the whole dash, which cost more than the car was worth to fix....
Same reason they take welfare checks and free healthcare.

Oddly enough my friend & I have been watching and really enjoying your wilderness series on you-tube. I was looking at my e-mails and found yours about my 16 yr old tuxedo kitty. When I clicked on it I got your video about the theft of your camera. I saw Cali and recognized her from your Wilderness series. Then I put 2+2 together and was so happy to find we have been watching that along with your bird series.. Unfortunately, modern police have zero incentive to find stolen items. They're totally 100% useless in these cases, literally the only reason to even call them is because you have to make out a police report for the insurance company... if not for that, you'd be better off not even contacting the police, since you're more often than not, more likely to get in trouble YOURSELF when you call them... because of who knows why. They always find a reason.

Almost caught a buglar once, when I got home early, sadly I he heard me and got out of a window on the other side of house. As the police officer said to me afterwards: "If you catch him another time, remember to tell us that he fell down the stairs."

Had my purse stolen twice. I was mugged by two men just after i cashed my paycheck . I lost quite a few things besides my weeky pay. They pushed me into a store doorway, i screamed and one slapped me and they grabbed my purse and ran. So glad i screamed as this was in chicago and the elavated tracks were just around the corner.
I was xmas shopping for my boyfried.
And another time i left my purse in a locked car while running in a post office in Wyoming . I couldn't have been gone for more than a minute or two.. my window was smashed to pieces.
That was some years ago , thing's were not bad as they are now. And i was young.
So i can really sympathize with you. Im so sorry you went through that especially because you seem like such a nice person and work hard to bring us such wonderful videos.
I will say some prayers for you and your family and Cali.

I'm really sorry, although most physical items are replaceable, its always hard to lose our earned stuff. I hope your insurance covers at least some of your losses.

I think you can report the S/N to canon as stolen. Definitely worth calling canon to check.
So if canon ever see your camera in for repair or cleaning in the future they will know it's stolen and call you/police.
The thief is unlikely to take it to canon, but the person they sell it to is.

Sadly this is the time where are living in. And if you secured it to the hilt. they will still find a way. Besides it churning your stomach it is material and so as others have said. Hopefully the insurance company will do the right thing.
As I said few months ago - *enable supporting* the channel, so it will be easier to secure stuff and buy more things to the cabin :) I will be the first one for sure!
And you can thank such people in easy way. For example I've board with small printed and laminated avatars of my supporters. You can make such place in your cabin and show that wall sometimes. I'm sure you will get
several hundred supporters. Not just for the money because you have it anyway, thanks to that you will take care of safety without your own expenses.

If auto insurance doesn't pay for the theft, check with your homeowner's insurance policy. Sometimes you are covered under that.

Auto Insurance will NEVER cover personal items stolen from the vehicle. I hope no one thinks this is true and leaves things in the car because of it.
Can you even get home insurance for a log cabin in the woods?
He has a house where his wife lives too. Probably where taxes are paid/mail/main address is registered for vehicles etc. That policy may have theft coverage for personal belongings. Some homeowner insurance policies do cover theft from vehicles.

I've had me & my husband's wallet stolen from our car. It was our own fault for not locking the doors overnight. Now I keep everything locked at all times. This is why I now think over-prepping is putting yourself at risk and knowledge is better.
Once again another amazing and relaxing video of the Alaskan wilderness. But to hear that the camera that shot all those beautiful scenery was just stolen is truly disheartening. This is one reality of life....that we share this beautiful blue planet with evil. I only know something for sure, the universe works in mysterious ways....To the person who stole from you, something 🐲in return is coming back to him and ain’t gonna be good.

@Kevin Vance -- I could add, never leave anything of value in your home/condo/apartment. All my clothes were stolen from my apartment once -- not a stitch of clothing left! Nothing else, just my clothes. A top floor in a high-rise building, with a deadbolt lock.

It´s a really good feeling to get rid of stuff, like cleaning your mind, except when it´s stolen. The sad thing is not that we loose things, but trust in other human beings.

Theft - It's a tough thing to deal with. However, leaving $10ks worth of gear in a truck is a no no for anyone. It's a lesson learned.

That sucks Shawn I always Carry my wallet with me just in case I like the idea that your security cameras double as trail cams that’s cool and the thieves are bad here in Alberta as well I know a lot of neighbors who are having things stolen it’s a sad reality
