yeah it was a pretty bad move. and heres the thing, I know a lot of people are gonna clown on joez because they always do, but he proved last year he was a solid goalie in slapball. so picking him where he was picked is fine. the main problem is why pick joez when you already have d'versa. now jimmy has two goalies and a lackluster offense plus worse picks in every other sport.
After the first two games, one point that sticks out to me with the new updates is the added importance of communication. On defense, both Jack and Jake’s teams were communicating in/out of the triangle which 1) helped their respective teams and 2) intimidated their opposing teams. New triangle/hallway/box areas also inherently spread out the game + add more movement which requires more communication. Sloppy passes/missed opportunities could be reduced with a few words. Even Jake had a fake-out pass to Dan with an audible “let it rip, Dan” to before passing the ball to someone else. Obviously, you don’t want the other team to hear your entire game plan, but it’s better to talk to each other than be quiet and assume your teammates can guess where you want them to go - unless you can read minds like the great and powerful Peter Moylan. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk on a made up sport originating from a warehouse in Jersey City, NJ!
If this game ever becomes confederated enough where people actually play it outside of the warehouse, posts like this are crucial in breaking down the metagame. Competition is competition, analysis is always relevant. Many thanks!
You know when he starts by throwing the ball so hard he threw his whole body over the line too, that it's going to be a good Rourke video. Kid is nuts and I adore him for it.
Crazy Horse is going to be the sleeper pick for MVP once he gets dialed in, I think. Dalton probably still wins it due to excellence overall but if Rourke gets hot, watch out.
I can totally imagine a Backdoor Baseball-style game called Warehouse Cup that features all these boys but in "shitty kid" form, playing up all their individual stats and features. Players could build teams for a whole bunch of custom-styled warehouse sports and versus each other or the computer.
Pregame thoughts : Jimmy botched this. Had 1st pick, traded up and i still think he has maybe 3rd best team. Could put him on back foot this whole captains league. Maybe he can prove us wrong tonight
Honestly, as an older person the thing I look forward to most with these warehouse games is when the boys finally make enough money to put some padded flooring down over that concrete. Every time one of them goes down on that hard floor I wince. Thankfully most of them are young and aren't quite feeling the true pain of these falls
The Story building a slapball dynasty, how did the other captains let him basically get the same exact team (even better with dan being an upgrade over Joez especially if Lou is gonna be that solid in net)
Jimmy in the live comments talked about how during their practice games for this season, getting a good goalie seemed to be super important because the difference between D'Aversa/Joez in net and everyone else was apparently massive, but during the actual games there were others playing a competent/good goalie. I can see how he bamboozled himself into taking D'Aversa 1.1 and Joez 2.1 based on that information but it really seems like a risky decision that's not going to pay off. It'd be one thing if he took Dalton 1.1 and traded up to take Joez 2.1, but with D'Aversa already in net Joez really does not have enough value to justify that pick.

Joez was good in Goalie last captains league, Jimmy picked two goalies though, I guess to try and block the other teams from getting them but it seems like there is more than enough goalie skill to go around so far
As a soccer goalkeeper, I have some advice for the warehouse goalies. If you have to reach for the ball like Lucas did around 15:40 then try to extend your hand straight out to where you’re trying to make the save. If you swing your arm at the ball then it’s more likely to deflect off you and end up in the net. I get there’s a lot of spin on the ball and it’s hard to judge where it’s going exactly, but “shooting” your hands will get you closer to the ball faster.
Defensively your ability to stop a cross crease pass to the area opposite and next to the crease and beneath the hallway is super difficult (call it the BBD spot). 1) Your goalie has to be active and able to deflect passes across the crease making the cross crease pass difficult or rushed and thus making slapping the cross crease pass harder to convert 2) your defender on that opposite side of the triangle has to recognize early and drop to that area to defend the shot (so someone like Dalton can’t sit there for a second and then slap). The Rippers used hallway action to create openings in that area in the first game because Penik had to chase all the way around the triangle to get to BBD. The story had a plan to take that area away from the breakdowns today by Lou being active and by never having someone just stay in the triangle. It takes communicating on defense and using your triangle defenders interchangeably to guard from mid triangle down to the BBD corner. I think that will be a basic play like a pick and roll would be in which teams can run their offenses because it puts max pressure on those two defenders to communicate covering three guys. The breakdowns are screwed because they can’t throw or run besides Rob but for the other teams it will be getting your defensive schemes set to handle cross hallway action (on top of running a man on man coverage out top for a thrower). I bet on Jake and Dalton being the best at that two man triangle defense.
Joez and Jimmy gotta get that footwork and movement better so when Jimmy moves, Joez moves to give space and not magnetize to the ball. It's like that in rugby: move to create space while staying close enough to get good passing. Joez has to get better movement through the hallway for the Breakdowns to have any chance.
It’s pretty much impossible to stop that shot. I get not wanting to clog the front of the net but there really isn’t a solution on D for just camping an offensive player on the weak side post. I feel like they need to have an outer crease that a defender is allowed in. Illustration below net [_|__|_]
@@bobbalooo I agree that spot is really hard to defend because of the structure of the court. I wonder if we see someone spam that spot in a game. It would be interesting to get enough data to understand how efficient that spot can be. The next game will be big because we get rippers vs story which are the two teams best set up to utilize the BBD spot and probably the two best to set up to defend that spot. This whole theory could crumble away in the next game or it turns into a corner 3 type play in the NBA where all teams run hallways action to a weak side slap.
Feely is a menace. Jimmy's squad let him go to the same spot over and over again, leading to multiple scores. Jake put some great defense on tape locking down half of the defensive zone himself, every other team should study his D... by that, I mean his defense... or not, no judgement.
I think as the tournament goes on the overload into a top triangle slap will be developed. It’s usually 1 defender on the opposite side and the offense will overload that side and you either take away the low slop or give up the high triangle open shot.
They did, but that could be intentional. Jake knows who he's playing against. A team that doesn't really have an arm, and there aren't a lot of slap opportunities from directly in front of goal. Defend the corners near goal, and you've effectively shut the Breakdowns (break)down. The Story communicates better than any team I've seen, too. I think that is aided by Dalton, as much as it is Jake. But, make no mistake, Jake probably communicates the best, with the best balance of encouragement and strategy out of all the captains.
I think you should look into sporting masks like they wear in softball. In the first 2 games, I noticed a lot of players turn their head to protect their face, taking their eye off of the ball. Perhaps the mask would allow for players to keep their head in the play a little longer.
Recapping my post-game thoughts: -Jimmy drafted two goalies and the breakdowns still managed to let in 12 goals. That decision is looking very foolish, especially when Lou Dab looked just fine in net on the other side. -The Story kicked into another gear in the second half once they figured out the rules. This team might cake walk to another slapball championship - Everyone on that team is an asset. -Dan has an absolute canon - would like to see him get more shots as the tournament progresses. -This is no surprise, but Dalton is an absolute Warehouse beast. He can do everything in slapball: throw, pass, defend, slap. He's a shoe-in for leading the league in goals. -Joez looked a little lost as a forward. I feel like we did not see Jimmy's vision in action this game. Felt like Joez was a non-factor. -Deversa might keep the Breakdowns in games, but he is going to have to play flawlessly if they want to really compete because that offense is putrid. There's not a single above average arm on the Breakdowns, and it feels like every other team has at least two.
You know what's funny? In floorball, every member of Jake's team is a goalie. None of them are as good in net as D'Aversa, but it makes them all competent defenders.
i had so much fun watching this last year. a year later, i still love this game. going to be interesting to see how the rule changes play out in the rest of the season, as people adjust, but so far so good.
Another good game, but it really feels like Jimmy could have assembled a better team with the picks he had. There's still time for him to get his team into shape though so I think he'll come up with a new plan if needed for play offs.
yep for sure, even just dalt instead of Lucas would make his team so much better (joez is a decent goalie) athought I still think trading up to get him was a mistake. but the ultimate mistake is 2 goalies lol. they were so slow and Jimmy is not a young guy
I don't think you would be able to generate enough force to spike it high enough and yet keep it under control so that it remains close enough so you can slap plus getting your arm into the position to slap downwards. But I hope I'm wrong cause that would be cool.
@bradlystrong410 that I can see similar to both Penik and Rob's 2nd goals where they were overhand slaps but just closer to the net so they could get the pass for further away. Who can turn the top of the triangle into a scoring zone may be the difference in this tournament
Teams that figure out how to utilize the opportunities afforded to them by the hallway rule will dominate this game, I think. Joez is showing in the negative why good movement is key and why Penik, once he figured it out a bit in game 1, became a beast late game. Also, Dalton may not want the MVP but the MVP might just want him again. It's like an obsessive love affair, those two.
The spread offense at 34:15 has to be the playbook moving forward. Guys that can throw positioned behind the halfcourt line and in the side triangles is Curry/Durant/Klay-esque
Especially when one of the teams has Jake, Dalton, and Rourke, and another team with Jack and Zo. Breakdowns has almost no offensive threat besides Rob, and Daversia is legit playing hero ball at goalie EVERY time the story had the ball.
The Breakdowns are done. Rob is great as a slap option, but they’re just leaving Lucas to get killed. Jimmy is not an efficient player and Joez is a non factor. Absolutely last place this year
Not only is taking Joez with your 2nd pick questionable... But trading UP for him is INSANE. And it's showing that not drafting Dalton 1.1 was a mistake. But atleast Dvaersa is producing and playing well Need to just keep Joez in goal. He's not very useful on offense
26:24 unfortunately, Jack, Google Docs auto saves so you don’t have to manually save. If you had said “word” or “excel” or any of the other Microsoft office products the joke would have landed better.
Whatever team finally figures out how to consistently capitalize on these 3v2 matchups near the crease wins the tournament. Only way to defend that is to leave the throws open and there’s too many live arms and not enough goalie talent to do that
A lot of people hating on this Breakdowns team, but I see the vision for this team. However, I think to succeed, Rob has to be the guy. He was awesome today and so energetic, if they unleash him to be a floater on defense and basically just give him the triangle to be his domain he can lock it down. Especially with Lucas doing his thing in net
I think they should have implemented a step limit. Maybe 3-5 steps. Watching Jimmy and Jolly just run back and forth with the ball is incredibly boring. It would encourage more ball movement and I think make the game more exciting. Anytime the breakdowns got the ball on offense my brain just shut off.
totally disagree with jimmy at the end there, their offense was not working. Story was leaving the top of the triangle unmarked, and they only used that once.
Yeah agreed, Joez was playing the role of a guy who moves around gets open, and he did that well, but then he refused to shoot until like the last minute. Sure he may not be the best slapper but he’s gotta take at least some of those and put some attention on himself, story basically ignored him at the top and it worked fine for them
Yup, it was 3 on 3 instead of 4 on 3. Actually with daversa hanging back, Joez lost, the breakdowns were 2 on 3, no wonder they couldn't get any open looks.
In the long run it didn't matter BUT....those last 2 Breakdown goals WERE NOT goals. I have no idea why Jimmy drafted Joez. The dude never takes anything serious enough and you can see when he gets the ball that he doesn't really know what to do with it because he probably never pays attention to what's going on. As for this game compared to the first, there were so many more throws this game and I'd prefer more slaps considering it's "Slapball"
Yeah. I don't like how they are so nonchalant about giving late goal calls for trailing teams. You can bet though, if the leading team did the exact same shots, they wouldn't get any benefit of doubt. They always try to manipulate games to be as close as possible. They also seem to intentionally use bad camera angles for those late wrongly called goals for trailing teams.
The Story is my favorite to take this tournament after tonight. Dalton is still Warehouse MVP, Lou was a wall and Rourke has a cannon if the defense plays wide. Jake is great at keeping the vibes high and giving his guys the nudge they need. Can't wait for Game 3!
i honestly don't think jimmy's team is as bad as other commenters are making it out to be. they just needed to take more self-slaps when the opportunities arose. and like he said they were sloppy with some violations and bad turnovers as well. if they get more shot-happy and sure up defensively they'll be just fine, they could beat anybody. i believe they just had a slow start against the best team out there
That’s cool. He picked first in all three rounds so far. And so far the players he’s picked have all looked like third rounders, with Rob maybe looking like the last second rounder. In all seriousness only Penik has looked worse than any of Jimmy’s picks. And he seemed to start figuring something out and the end of the first game
I think the P-shot should have an option of taking it at the tip of the triangle for a bounce shot, or a throw from the mid line. Seems a little more one sided in favor of the throwing team
The whole running out of the slap rule is such a hard call. They almost called Joez 7th goal back. I get they can’t run through their slap, but if them walking after the slap doesn’t involve momentum into their slap, it should be fine. Couple questionable calls in that first game for sure
Great game! Spoilers below, Honestly, The Breakdowns just need to execute a bit better. They played better than the scoreline suggests. Just miscommunication errors and soft passes were their downfall. They were a bit diorganised both offensively and defensively towards the end but that was probably due to scoreboard pressure. The Story just played a clean clinical game and took advantage of every opportunity. I'm excited to see the teams progress
Something that might need looking into, but when the goalie takes the rebound throw from the turnover, should it be disallowed if their foot gets into the hallway? The rules did say the hallway is only for the offensive players. However, could the interpretation be that the hallway is only active when the offensive team has possession and thus the goalie footing after the throw being irrelevant during a turnover?
So the two teams that looked the best both won, which is nice because last season there were way too many games where the better team lost. It happens. It happened too much last season. Guys just gotta stay focused
The breakdowns will be fine if Jimmy sacrifices. Jimmy loves to run point which makes sense cause he’s the strategist but I feel like joez is best used as a facilitator. Rob is a slapper jimmy does have an arm I think he needs to hunt his throws early and often. Lucas is tricky cause they want him to be able to get back quick but he’s really a Swiss Army knife I believe like the perfect role player I think they need to have Lucas and joez rotate goalie through out the games. If joez is running point in the offensive zone have Lucas behind the line if jimmy is running point then have joez behind the line I don’t think he’s much of a thrower but if your running a play for Lucas then someone needs to be back. I also think Jake and the story have a great thing with active defense and turning defense to offense . Unfortunately due to how jimmy drafted he can’t mimick that the breakdowns best defender is Lucas whose in net and second best is rob who just doesn’t have the length or size
You could tell that The Story never really took The Breakdown’s offense seriously. Especially not the throw. Jimmy has got to get Joez on being the point man inside the offensive zone and not relying on him down low.
Welcome back to "THE DEUCE", today we have The Breakdowns vs. The Story. Can the Breakdowns break down the reigning Captain's League champions The Story? Or is the book already written for The Breakdowns by The Story? Should be a great game, let's kick it to Jack Doyle and Shelfy in the booth.
Through 2 games one of the main takeaways for me is that being a slapball goalie is now easy with this layout. Which is whats causing Jimmy gambit to fail harder than what he thought would be the worst case scenario. Now the question for the breakdowns is can they adjust. Personally I doubt it as Jimmy may be too stubborn to admit the mistake and retool the entire team.

Two games in and trading up to take Joez over Zo may be the worst draft decision in captains league history. Could be a relegation level mistake
The crazy thing is he also traded down in every other sport when he might have even been able to get Joez at 8
You draft a great goalie but have no arms and no athleticism.
yeah it was a pretty bad move. and heres the thing, I know a lot of people are gonna clown on joez because they always do, but he proved last year he was a solid goalie in slapball. so picking him where he was picked is fine. the main problem is why pick joez when you already have d'versa. now jimmy has two goalies and a lackluster offense plus worse picks in every other sport.
Joez is as slow and lifeless here as he is in literally every draft video

Feed the ceiling bird
i had so much fun watching this last year. a year later, i still love this game. going to be interesting to see how the rule changes play out in the rest of the season, as people adjust, but so far so good.
If Jimmy keeps drafting like this a shock relegation beckons
40:02 shut out to the team for the funny description lines. also feed the ceiling bird 😂
Please make slapball part of the warehouse cup! This is the best of the games you play!
High self bounce to an overhand slap at the top of the triangle would be deadly if they can figure that out. Like a volleyball serve
I don't think you would be able to generate enough force to spike it high enough and yet keep it under control so that it remains close enough so you can slap plus getting your arm into the position to slap downwards. But I hope I'm wrong cause that would be cool.
@ could also get a higher set up pass up top instead of self bounce
@bradlystrong410 that I can see similar to both Penik and Rob's 2nd goals where they were overhand slaps but just closer to the net so they could get the pass for further away. Who can turn the top of the triangle into a scoring zone may be the difference in this tournament
Loved that ending and Jimmy's comment after missing a goal 😂
I love that you talked through the draft history, thank you.
Get these boys a 9V battery for that smoke detector
My dog hates it. I have to watch with headphones. Hopefully they fix for day 2 of filming.
I suspect taking on an offensive and defense liability to deny the other teams a good goalie was not a great strategic decision.
Especially when one of the teams has Jake, Dalton, and Rourke, and another team with Jack and Zo. Breakdowns has almost no offensive threat besides Rob, and Daversia is legit playing hero ball at goalie EVERY time the story had the ball.
Jack is the greatest announcer
Replace the battery in your god damn fire alarm LOL
Dan Rourke comparing himself to Prime Godzilla, may be the most Dan Rourke
my favorite thing about this year of the Warehouse so far is the smoke detector ping
Jack v Jake is gonna be a good matchup
Jack I thought your google docs joke was funny
Agreed
I also agree, it was sneaky good!
Personally I think it would have been better if he’d said Word cause google docs autosave. Great concept though.
I really love the star on Jakes jersey. Its looks really awesome.❤❤
Ranking up each star. Going for general
Do we need to raise money to get the Warehouse a 9V battery?
The Breakdowns are done. Rob is great as a slap option, but they’re just leaving Lucas to get killed. Jimmy is not an efficient player and Joez is a non factor. Absolutely last place this year
Your breakdown is 💯 spot on
Not only is taking Joez with your 2nd pick questionable... But trading UP for him is INSANE.
And it's showing that not drafting Dalton 1.1 was a mistake. But atleast Dvaersa is producing and playing well
Need to just keep Joez in goal. He's not very useful on offense
26:24 unfortunately, Jack, Google Docs auto saves so you don’t have to manually save. If you had said “word” or “excel” or any of the other Microsoft office products the joke would have landed better.
The joke is you have to be paranoid to save (twice), which still makes sense cuz it auto saves
"you look like a modern... Boat person." Jake is the poet laureate of the warehouse
I think The Breakdown needs to consider putting Joez in net and bringing Daversa into the field
I will never understand Joez not being the last pick
Jomboy to Jomboy when he missed that slap in the 4 minutes second half was amazing 30:27
Lou even with some magic cant stop Dan and Dalton Wow. Great work. Bets on Story all day.. thru the whole thing!
Can we get a GoFundMe for batteries in the smoke detector that keeps beeping?
This sport is really fun to watch. Would love more, maybe a main season game?
Whatever team finally figures out how to consistently capitalize on these 3v2 matchups near the crease wins the tournament. Only way to defend that is to leave the throws open and there’s too many live arms and not enough goalie talent to do that
A lot of people hating on this Breakdowns team, but I see the vision for this team. However, I think to succeed, Rob has to be the guy. He was awesome today and so energetic, if they unleash him to be a floater on defense and basically just give him the triangle to be his domain he can lock it down. Especially with Lucas doing his thing in net
Story are winning
At this point I believe they keep the smoke detector beeping so people like me comment more lol. Loving the content!
It seems like Joez plays every game loaded up on kushy dreamz from Playin' Guts
Dalton Feely might be the best guy wearing 2 on the jersey to play for a squad in the tri-state area
Dalton is the best athlete in the warehouse. Dude is carrying that momentum from BB5.
The Story is my favorite to take this tournament after tonight. Dalton is still Warehouse MVP, Lou was a wall and Rourke has a cannon if the defense plays wide. Jake is great at keeping the vibes high and giving his guys the nudge they need. Can't wait for Game 3!
Hard to believe Jimmy drafted anyone on that team with the intent to win
i honestly don't think jimmy's team is as bad as other commenters are making it out to be. they just needed to take more self-slaps when the opportunities arose. and like he said they were sloppy with some violations and bad turnovers as well. if they get more shot-happy and sure up defensively they'll be just fine, they could beat anybody. i believe they just had a slow start against the best team out there
That’s cool.
The Story are amazing at covering the defensive zone nips.
Laughed out loud at the paranoid Docs user line. Jack for president.
A stuff and score! A scoop and snipe!
Love this sport. Keep it up!
The whole running out of the slap rule is such a hard call. They almost called Joez 7th goal back.
I get they can’t run through their slap, but if them walking after the slap doesn’t involve momentum into their slap, it should be fine. Couple questionable calls in that first game for sure
people either love shady rays, or hate shady rays. they really are polarizing.
I'm just thrilled that they used my scudetto idea. ⭐️
EDIT: Also, I love this game. I got so invested in it last year. It's a lot of fun to watch.
For Jack!! 32:11
Great game!
Spoilers below,
Honestly, The Breakdowns just need to execute a bit better.
Love you jack
Came for the mathchup. Stayed for the play by play and Jack
dalt with the natural hatty as well! (throw, slap, penalty)
So the two teams that looked the best both won, which is nice because last season there were way too many games where the better team lost. It happens. It happened too much last season. Guys just gotta stay focused
That was funny jack
Thumbs up if you're in the Bobby Sirachi fan club
There's gotta be someone else that can be in the player pool other than Joez man.. It's brutal to watch..
Have you seen Justin Penik?
@@Bigfanmandan Yeah the lack of effort is annoying but at least I find him more entertaining
