When you were talking about stretching the roof fabric, it reminded me of my dad, back in the early 1960's, with raw knuckles (just behind the finger-nails) from stretching that fabric - out in the sun on an Indiana summer with mom doing the tacking as dad pulled. I always enjoy hearing the tips and tricks from those that have done the job hundred's of times. Thanks
    Bob for your insights! A couple additional comments: Curious to try the chain trick on the emergency brake spring. I have used a spring installation hook, slightly modified to bend/leverage around the radius rod. Still very difficult! Composite gears have been used by several manufactures, here and abroad, . The most cited reason is for noise, not as a fuse point. Was a bit surprised to not hear clutch replacement as the most difficult maintenance item. Torque tube setups make this a dreaded task. Thanks again and keep the wisdom coming!!

    Paul,
    Awesome and helpful videos!! Just subscribed last week. I'm new to the Model A scene. I've always wanted one and am starting my search for my first Model A. I'm leaning towards a sedan version. Any pointers as to which version and what I should look for mechanically / cosmetically before purchasing? Ideally I would like to be able to tour and go on long trips to see family and friends in it. I am a history teacher but not particularly mechanically inclined. Thanks in advance!

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  3 года назад

      Thank you, and congrats!! You might be better off with a tudor sedan. Get in touch with your local club and go for a ride on a tour or two. Look for a car that has been driven a lot and that the club members know well. Steer clear of a car that has been sitting or a brand new unproven restoration. You want a sorted car if you are not mechanically inclined, you do not want a project car.

    Paul I have come to appreciate you and "Dad's" Q & A videos. I am using the "Red" Green and Bluebook by Les Andrews as my hands-on references. I do however have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with. He recommends keeping the length and angle the same on both break adjusting shafts. On page 1-37 of the red book the figure on the right side of the page shows a
    BREAK ADJUSTING SHAFT FIXTURE.
    So far I have not found where to purchase one or dimensions so I could make one. Do you think you could help a newbie with this. I doubt I'll live long enough completely remodel her
    (Aline after my mom) but I do want her safe to drive, as I plan on her being my DD. Do you feel I could scale the size shown in the book?? Thanks so much . You guys are the best.

    Paul, I look forward to the live sessions when you get to 100 K subscribers. But I certainly hope, well before that, that you get a corporate sponsor (or two) for the channel.
    Both Bob and yourself have been beyond reproach with regards to favoritism of the Model A part suppliers, and for me, in most aspects one is as good as the other. But the company that steps up and sponsors your channel will definitely get my business. I’d love to see a PS & BG endorsed product line (if you two can agree upon anything!).

Working on new upholstery for my 31 Coupe and realized there were many “leather” straps used to attach the backrest seat to the wood frame (also some on the bench seat). Thanks and best of luck getting to 100k subscribers!!

However, it only stays running if i have the choke pulled all the way out and there's no power when you step on the gas pedal. If I put the choke in, it stalls out. What am I doing wrong? I tried swapping it out with a Tillotson carb and it does the same thing. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Randy Schurter

    I may have been able to find my own answer in the warranty question (from Wheels.ca) "In 1925 Ford offered the typical warranty of the day: “90 days on material; 30 days on labor. No guarantee whatsoever on fan belts, glass, bulbs, wiring, transmission bands, hose connections, commutator shells, rollers, spark plugs or gaskets.”
    The 90-day warranty would outlive Henry Ford and become the industry standard right through the 1950s. While the list of ineligible “wear items” became shorter, manufacturers saw the need for a mileage limit and set it at 4,000 miles"

    Hello Paul. Love your videos. I recently acquired a 1930 Model A Tudor Sedan RHD inherited from my father who bought it in Uruguay. I’m gradually improving the condition starting with the mechanical, but the seat upholstry is in poor condition so I’m looking for slip-on seat covers to tide me over until I restore the upholstry in a few years. I haven’t found any on the parts supplier web sites. Can you please advise me where I can find and buy? Thanks, Michiel Vreedenburgh, Montreal, Canada

      Nice purchase, Michiel! Unfortunately, nobody is making slip-on seat covers for a Tudor sedan, to my knowledge.

    I have a '30 CC PU that has a 'frankin' cab (made from many parts). I have a crack below the passenger side window pillar right next to the gas tank. Right at the top of the body roll or buldge. There are several issues with the top; wood squeeks, ckicken wire exposed, etc. If I go to fix any of these issues with the 'frankin cab' I am affraid I will be opening a pandora's box. Maybe easier to find a 'good' cab (not a frankin cab) and swap it out? Any suggestions? BTW just kidding about the pager and flip phone. :-)

    Hey guys. Paul I know you have a Facebook with some questions you can also ask. Weirdly enough I don’t use Facebook lol. I within the last cpl months redid my 30 coupe. New head gasket, water pump, brand new rad and. I’m seeming to have yet again a bit of foam seemingly coolant in my oil. 🤦🏻‍♂️ it doesn’t run hot..! I’m thinking a possible timing issue maybe to far…. I do remember you saying to move the spark lever up round town and I think that my be my issue. Any thoughts. Hi Brad! Tina does the facebook. I don't even have the password to it. Getting coolant in your oil, you either have a head gasket problem (new one didn't seal) or a cracked head or cracked block. That's all it can be.

    • @ModelA
      @ModelA  3 года назад

      Hi Tullio. That is very common. rotate the motor so the front and rear pistons are all the way down. Shove a bunch of nylon rope into the spark plug holes until the cylinder is full. Then, rotate the motor and the head will pop loose. Do not use a pry bar or screwdriver to pry the head from the block. That will cause great damage.
