Just out of curiosity, did anyone else notice that Mr Barnes gave SFA to Ireland in the way of decisions during the opening quarter of our game against NZ in the quarter finales? We've traditionally been fragile starting WC quarter finals, so it sort of put the kibosh on things when we were going 13 points down and being consistently told by Mr Barnes that we suddenly forgot how to contest the breakdown, despite being No.1 in the world at the time, and despite oing the same stuff we done all season with conceding frees, including games refereed by Mr Barnes himself. I ask because it seems to be a monumental hole in the analysis of that game and meanwhile the only complaints seem to come from NZ fans.
Biggest gripe from me in the RWC final as an AB fan was the yellow card to Shannon Frizzel and subsequent 3 points. The bunker comes back and says he wasn't guilty of targeting the player to injure, so the ABs had 10 minutes with 14 players and 3 points down for a wrong call. NZ fans obviously have beef with Wayne over 2 games (we all know which 2) but in both games I felt he was badly let down by the other officials. The touch judges in 07 and the TMO/Bunker in 23.
Of all the examples he could have used . Will had to use south africa😅😅😅 .bitter bitter . Ref spoke about the English game . You chose to use south africa for scrutiny 😂😂😂
Dear Mr Barnes, I am a disappointed Abs fan . I like to understand your thought process in some of the decisions/ non decisions in the WC finals. Apologies for asking you in an open forum as this is the only way we fans can contact you. 1) At the 6.39th minute of the final - Eben E fended off Sam Canine with his elbow straight on to his face. Judging by the rest of the game and tournament and the history- it should be a card to Eben , most likely a red card. Is there any specific reasons this wasn't the case ? 2) Penalty against Ardie- you certainly had some doubts- is there a specific reason for not reviewing it , considering Aron Smith's try was reviewed and reversed well after the stipulated world rugby guidelines? I am not saying with certainty that Abs would have won if these decisions were picked up - but in a close game we cannot help but feel hard done by. We know you are a great ref - perhaps not always against us (😊). Will be great to hear your thought process. Having said that it is a game we all have to move on. Certainty agree there shouldn't be any room for online abuse. Wishing you well!
@waynebarnesnumber1fan cry me a river . Very fair game . The try from Aaron Smith should be disallowed because a phase only technically counts when a ruck is formed not a tackle there were not 4 phases between the lineout and the try no matter what the phase counter on the TV says cause that isn't accurate according to the law . If you want to complain like a Wingey brat you should at least come with a thorough knowledge of the rules . It's fans like you that make me want NZ rugby to fall into the ground
Huge respect to Wayne Barnes !! One of the best Refs ever.
Congratulations on a great career WB, thanks for your contribution to our wonderful game. Good luck with the next chapter in your journey.
Great interview!
Great podcast.More of these interviews will help to increase the awareness of what referees are facing.
Great interview ❤❤❤
