@@PerthWAtch Haven't seen the version out side of what Marc displayed on Long Island Watch website. No not going to buy one, but if I didn't have a few Mako's and Ray's I would..

Had trouble with the bracelet and hosed it Actually feels and looks as good . Just set the timr, day and date as we tyoe. Will be wearing it to bed, (night worker.)
i have the mako 2 and i'm loving it. very robust and elegant at the same time. there's no such thing as mako 3 and ray 3 yet. the kamasu and kano are a whole different animal.
If you say so... I'm going by the community tags that are widely used online. In the US these are Kamasu and Kano. The AD I spoke to labelled them Ray III and Mako III. I'm happy to go with the info I found thanks ;)
I have the Mako II. I like to use it as a sportier dresswatch, and therefore I like the arabics and smaller indicies. It makes it more classic in my opinion.
On dimensions, style and value proposition the Ray II for sure. This is the new SKX. But it's probably part of the Seiko plan, by making Seiko the higher value product, with Orient being the value proposition.
This is why I love RUclips...your video is coming up on 2 years old, yet you answered questions I just had today. "What the heck is the difference between these things!?" I'm personally leaning toward the Mako II since I happen to like the numerals on the dial, and the spear shaped hands, (personal preference)...and you can't beat the price on the Mako II and/or Ray II! Exceedingly useful information here, so again, thanks.
I bought the Ray 2 as well for the following reasons. 1) I wanted to pay with taxes less than $200 USD so was deciding between the Ray 2 and the Mako 2. 2) Between those two as you noted the Ray 2 has a nicer band. 3) I like the style of Ray 2 netter than the Mako 2 as I prefer the watch face without numbers instead of a big 12, 9, 6 on the face of the Mako 2. 4) I like the hour and minute hands on the Ray 2 bettter. Both are awesome values for the money it’s just a matter of preference. The Ray 2 at under $200 is actually a nicer watch than a different automatic diver style watch from a different brand that I previously purchased for $275. For an automatic diver watch with 200 meters water resistant that looks and feels more expensive the Ray 2 is near impossible to beat. It is an awesome watch.
That's awesome Jimm... thanks for sharing those thoughts, as you can tell, I pretty much fully agree! :) Can I ask what is that other $275 watch you were referring to?
Thanks for the comparison video. I couldn't agree more. I also went with the blue ray II. Added a strapcode bracelet and mineral crystal. Couldn't be happier. I've had it for 2 years now and I still love the way it looks.

With 2020 price on Ray ii/ Mako ii below US $130 I bought one of each. I do like the magenta dial and gunmetal with gold accents Ray III models. I may get the latter as it is available for $200 to $210.
I bought the Blue Ray II based on ypur video here but my clasp is larger thicker quatity with spring push pins on sides, sadly the bezel or maybe its the chapter ring is slightly left of centre, being misaligned.
Great video as always. I’m not usually a big fan of PVD watches, but the RRII is the only one in the family with a color matched day/date wheel - I realize it was not one of the original choices. So, it is a difficult decision. But after going back and forth between the Mako and the Ray, I would ultimately go with the RayII, same as you did.
Um, sure, ok. For double the price, it better have sapphire! But why stop there, why not just go to Triton or M-Force? PS. The movement is the same BTW.
+1 on the Mako II USA is far superior to any of the Ray or Mako iterations. As far as price you can get it on sale or with a 30% off coupon code for $250 w/free shipping . I have the white dial and it looks amazing. Sapphire crystal, solid end links and Improved luminosity is worth the higher price tag.
Prefer if they ditch the logo and just use text. Not sure. I don't find the logo as a strong brand theme. It seems a bit try hard with the coat of arms theme. Not sure why I think this. But overall Ray II is a winner.
I have the Orient Kano in blue. Awesome watch. Only thing is it had scratches on the end links strait out of the box. I saw a review by some Russian guy and he had the same problem. I use it for work and the lume and legibility is amazing. If strap code make a bracelet I will probably upgrade it.
ruclips.net/video/YBf0zsiH8sU/видео.html . I don't think this is the review I was talking about but you can see what I mean at 7.05. Mine was worse and and on both end links
Thanks for your review. Watching from Freo always. Just wanted your help. I'm confused on the Ray and Kamasu. Is the Kamasu watch lume a shade too yellow? Thanks, Arun
I have the Ray II as well. It is the cheapest watch in my small collection by far. It is also my favourite - I wear it more than any other. It also keeps superb time - a gain of only 2.5 seconds a day. This watch is an absolute gem.
Recently bought a Kano as I have gorilla wrists ,very impressed and it will be easier to change to a ceramic bezel insert I believe Long Island watches have had to resort to making a new complete bezel as it was too difficult to manufacture an insert with indents
Hmm yeah good point about those indents and the difficult in making that in ceramic - I will have to lookup whether there is such an aftermarket part anywhere!
Have had the Ray II with orange Dial for a few months now & it's a good value. Less reflections with that color. Also better lume than the Mako. Wears small tho & the 👑 Crown is to small with minimal knurling which is very hard to operate around those guards. Have to find a solution for that or flip it. Lol 😁
Thanks for sharing that - agreed re: the crown being too small. Let me know if you find some way around it... for the life of me I can't figure a solution apart from using some grip (e.g a good cloth or rubber glove).
Run some waxed dental floss around the grooves or I used a strip of cloth with MDL rust inhibitor lubricant around them . Helped some . Have to look into a Crown replacement or mod tho .
Went with the Mako II in blue because of the brushed bracelet and unique numeral dial. I was looking at a $600 Hamilton or a Seiko but i find the Seiko to bulky for my taste and for the price of $140 there is just no better choice then a Mako II or Ray II. For the price of the Hamilton i can buy a Ray and a Mako plus a bunch of straps and 2 nice solid oyster bracelets.
Not about the scratch resistance or anything, although when it comes down to it of course I would prefer DLC treatment. It’s more that plain steel is more versatile overall... for example I could wear the Ray I chose with shirt and tie but I would hesitate to wear any black PVD watch this way.
hi! I was at a store today and noticed how many orient divers had a different shade of blue. I really preferred the lighter blue one but didn't ask which was wich as I moved on. Back at home I started researching orient divers as I think I got bit by the diver bug. Can you please tell me which models have the ligher blue color as that's the one I'd prefer to buy. I remember seeing how the lighter one was smaller. I liked the color but not the size. Thanks a ton for your input!
I’m pretty sure the Ray II has a relatively lighter blue colour in comparison with others, but I can’t be 100% sure... best to compare side by side in person if this is critical for you.
I always think Orient's blue dial divers look more business than sports watches. Think it's the logo and colour , they are nice watches and I do like the orange and green colours in the mako XL model. I have almost bought Orient a couple of times and I always hesitate and buy something else instead , something just holds me back on them and I'm unsure why as they get mostly positive reviews and feedback.
Possibly you usually end up buying higher price point watches? I wouldn't say these look luxury by any means, but at under $200 there is very little comparison, and to me the more compelling options are all more expensive.
@@PerthWAtch I agree mate , at under $200 they look great value. Maybe it's just I have never actually seen one in the flesh. Here in Glasgow there's loads of watch shops , but , I haven't saw any that carry Orient. Maybe I need to be more impulsive and take the plunge 😁 like I did with the Tevise 801 you reviewed.
I just don't see the need for it,unless a diver is going to lug extra tanks down to depth and stay down over night.Apart from that i don't like the imbalance in the overall design of the dial.
I have the ray with the two crowns (black), the III with the red bezel on a leather strap (I like it so much, I ordered yesterday the blue version w/ss steel bracelet) and the diver I like the most and you did not mention it, the Triton (blue). Since I have larger hands out of the three the watch that gets the most time is the Kano (Ray III). My favorite though is the Triton; great design but a little heavy for daily wear.
There are more divers in their range... I was focusing more on the budget non-ISO compliant models, as opposed to the Triton which is a proper ISO 6425 Diver's watch, and of course, more expensive.
I'm returning my loreo submariner as the time is always completely wrong even if I reset it and Idk much about watches so I don't know what's wrong with it. I think I'm going to spend the extra money and get a Ray II because I know it'll be good and it looks stunning
I also picked the Ray 2 blue dial. As I said in your Bali holiday video, I think it's the best holiday watch. It's cheap so I don't have to worry about losing it. It's also very versatile, I took it snorkeling all day in Thailand, and at night, I can still rock it with a smart casual outfit. That said, I am going to pick up the red dial Kamasu since it's my favourite colour and I've been looking for a red dial watch. It'll come in handy when Chinese New year arrives and everyone in the family dress in red. 😆
Why haven't I thought of that? Dunno... I guess maybe coz it's a little too on the nose with all the red around as it is, but actually it probably would fit in and not get a second look!
Thanks for that - yeah all of these are very fair pieces... I guess the sizing and the hand set didn't interest me as much when I had them side by side.
Great video! I'd probably go with the Ray III. Though I have a blue Armida A2, Gen 2 with the same round applied indices as your Ray, so I'd have to say I like that, too.
Nice video. I also chose the Ray ll and looking forward to receiving it tomorrow. How resistant is the crystal from scratches? Is it at par or similar to Seiko's Hardlex? It's somewhat of a concern for me.
Don't like the Mako the way the day date takes the place of the 3 with the Arabics, not really balanced look to me. I would go with the Ray II. In fact I have in the past but flipped it to fund another watch.
Wore my Titan last night at home, just got it back from a stem repair; As far as your choice al of the above, Get the all black Ray from an online AD Long Island watch, usually don't talk about whom I buy from but Long Island and Genome for you guys on that side of the planet, especially for JDM, technically those JDM have a Japanese warranty and in theory really practice, contact and just mail it back, nowaday international post is not a big deal it's pretty fast, and really not that expensive for a smaller item, yeah ya gonna wait. I prefer to go AD even on lower priced items as Orients, and just buy AD local. Can use LIW or Orient USA. DId buy grey, Titanium Mido Ocean Star, hard to find an AD in the US got a discount on the watch above the posted sale, will get it Monday.
Thanks for those thoughts Michael - the Ray Raven II is popular it seems but I just never tend to prefer black PVD over plain steel whenever I have the choice. Not sure what it is, but partly is that plain steel is more versatile, can dress it up more than black PVD which tends to be more casual/sport. Also depending on the model PVD can make it look cheap. For low priced items like this if there is a good local proper eBay seller then that's likely the best way to get the best price for us here in Australia. As long as it's a legit dealer the warranty will be stamped and valid. I have bought from overseas too but we get hit with 10% GST these days which can break the deal. I have heard of Long Island Watch of course - what do you find best about them?
Hacking, Sapphire crystal makes me want think, the company is an established brand, Too close you're at the other side if the planert or woold sent it in for review, while they did a great job at replacement of the stem, it now does not uop tje power scale, but regukar use does, I can live with that,
@@PerthWAtch I actually ordered a Mako III USA in white face, so there is no duplications. Probably will toss it on a NATO, also ordered at the same time bought a Strapcode for my Triton,
That Ray III with that model number, it's actually a Mako III, surely? EDIT: Oh God, it seems than many many pages are confusing the Ray III and Mako III....
Orient USA name that Kamasu while Orient international site does not seem to have a moniker. I have not seen Ray III or Mako III used officially, but rather more informally (by fans). This is in contrast to Ray II which is official, at least on the USA site.
@@PerthWAtch Indeed. Honestly I think the color is more important than the style. That's why I ordered a Mako XL. As long as it has that gorgeous blue that Orient uses, it'll be a great looking watch.
Just bought 1 used orient RAY II for $100. the crystal and the aluminum bezel was scratched badly. I swap the crystal to sapphire, and swap the bezel with the coin edge bezel mod so I can use the SKX bezel insert which is made of Ceramic. I only spent in total of $190 to get the "Un-scratchable" Orient RAY II
Ivan, this was a video well worth doing. Very interesting to see the comparison. I only wish that there was an Orient boutique here in the UK. I hope the nearest one is not in KL! Just as well perhaps, I would always be in it buying stuff!
Ray/Mako are 41.5mm and Kamasu is 41.8mm. .3mm is not any significant size difference. Ray II is the best looking overall but like the Sapphire crystal, military style bezel and shielded lume pip on the bezel.
Did you hear me say I had all four watches in front of me? As I mentioned the bezel on the Ray II is 41mm (measured by calipers) and this influences how it wears more than the case size (along with the lug to lug distance). I didn’t buy the Kamasu and therefore cannot tell you what the bezel measures, but I had this side by side and I can tell you that the size difference is definitely noticeable, enough to potentially be a deciding factor.
Yeah I’m not stupid I watched your dumb video. Why didn’t you video of them side by side then? Would have been way more useful. I’ve seen reviews side by side with a Kamasu and an Mako/Ray. They look to be almost identical size. Yes the case around the lugs is slightly different and the bezels are different. But the overall size is difference is 0.3mm. Orient specs the Mako II / Ray II at 41.5mm and the Kamasu at 41.8mm. Check the USA Orient distributors website, Orient Watch USA. The size difference is hardly visible to the naked eye.
Got to 10:15 in Minit Watch’s review. (ruclips.net/video/hBfd-MQaqQ0/видео.html) He has the Orient Ray II really that next to an Orient Kamasu. Exact same size. It’s a trick of the eye. The Ray II appears smaller because of the sloped bezel and smaller dial with a chapter ring. The Kamasu has a flat bezel and a rehaut in place of the chapter ring (larger dial). It’s an optical illusion that the Ray II appears larger. If you were any kind of decent RUclipsr you’d have got all these watches side by side in one review. Keep up the shitty videos bud!
Your comment is dismissive of others' view when you have never had these watches in hand yourself. I'm not disputing the published figures, I'm just telling you my in hand experience. If you want to draw conclusions based on single measures of dimension on paper and using photos, go ahead... for myself I would take the word of someone who has had the product in hand. Sounds like you perhaps have trouble understanding me - Did you hear me say that I viewed these watches in an AD? Have you tried taking photos in an AD, let alone make a video?
Can’t beat the Ray, great watch to have in the collection

@@PerthWAtch and size in fact. But in that selection, the Ray II would have been my pick as well, that syringe hour hand gets my vote.
Orient Mako II USA is their best dive watch 👍
Meh... I fail to see why it's definitively the "best"...
@@PerthWAtch 40mm sapphire glass upgraded hackable movement solid end links its a supercharged Mako
Um, sure, ok. For double the price, it better have sapphire! But why stop there, why not just go to Triton or M-Force?
PS. The movement is the same BTW.
The Triton doesnt look as good
+1 on the Mako II USA is far superior to any of the Ray or Mako iterations. As far as price you can get it on sale or with a 30% off coupon code for $250 w/free shipping . I have the white dial and it looks amazing. Sapphire crystal, solid end links and Improved luminosity is worth the higher price tag.
The red Kamasu
is a stunner. The green one looks pretty good too. Have you picked one up yet?
Haven’t actually, happy with my Ray II :)
Prefer if they ditch the logo and just use text. Not sure. I don't find the logo as a strong brand theme. It seems a bit try hard with the coat of arms theme. Not sure why I think this.
But overall Ray II is a winner.
You're not alone in thinking that about the logo... I've read quite a few negative comments about it.
I have the Orient Kano in blue. Awesome watch. Only thing is it had scratches on the end links strait out of the box. I saw a review by some Russian guy and he had the same problem. I use it for work and the lume and legibility is amazing. If strap code make a bracelet I will probably upgrade it.
Cool... thanks for sharing that - I wasn't aware of that scratching problem. Mine seems OK out of the box.
@@PerthWAtch It just seems to be the 44mm version
ruclips.net/video/YBf0zsiH8sU/видео.html . I don't think this is the review I was talking about but you can see what I mean at 7.05. Mine was worse and and on both end links
Ah I see what you mean, thanks for that!
Are the straps of all watches compatible with each other? So can I use the strap of the Orient Mako 3 for the Orient Ray 2?
Bracelets. No, I don’t think we can assume that.
@@PerthWAtch Do you know if the bracelet from the Orient Triton or Kamasu fit the Orient Ray 2 ?
I don’t know for sure but I would suspect not, especially the Triton given it’s different size.
Thanks for your review. Watching from Freo always. Just wanted your help. I'm confused on the Ray and Kamasu. Is the Kamasu watch lume a shade too yellow?
Thanks,
Arun
Hi there - I don’t have the Kamasu in hand to be able to answer that specifically…
Orient watch has a boutique?
Is that hard to believe?
I have the Ray II as well. It is the cheapest watch in my small collection by far. It is also my favourite - I wear it more than any other. It also keeps superb time - a gain of only 2.5 seconds a day. This watch is an absolute gem.
Haha that’s so interesting!
Yeah I think I got lucky too mines running about 3 seconds a day as well
Going for the kano because of the size how does kanos lume compare to the Ray 2? Thanks
Pretty sure it will be consistent across their whole range.
@@PerthWAtch if you go to the Long Island Watch channel he sells bezel replacement as well as the inserts, only place I could find them
Have had the Ray II with orange Dial for a few months now & it's a good value.
I knew it would be the Ray II. It just has a certain charm for me. Although I'm a bit biased haha as it was my first ever automatic watch.
Wow that’s a great choice for a first automatic... was it your selection or someone else?
Went with the Mako II in blue because of the brushed bracelet and unique numeral dial. I was looking at a $600 Hamilton or a Seiko but i find the Seiko to bulky for my taste and for the price of $140 there is just no better choice then a Mako II or Ray II. For the price of the Hamilton i can buy a Ray and a Mako plus a bunch of straps and 2 nice solid oyster bracelets.
Yep Orient is pretty awesome value for money!
Lets confuse the issue even more - how about the Ray Raven II?
The Ray Raven II is popular but wasn't on my radar as I almost never prefer PVD over plain steel...
Without a doubt, if I was to buy the RRII, it would be the one. Have the older model. Maybe will wear it tonight at work.
@@PerthWAtch Could you tell me why, is PVD less scratch resistent? I ask this, because I'm thinking about buying a Raven.
Not about the scratch resistance or anything, although when it comes down to it of course I would prefer DLC treatment. It’s more that plain steel is more versatile overall... for example I could wear the Ray I chose with shirt and tie but I would hesitate to wear any black PVD watch this way.
I have the black ray 1.and two blue ray Il,and lastly my new kamasu green
Very nice! But... why do you have two blue Ray II watches?
Haha well I can definitely reassure you this is leaps and bounds above that Tevise :)
Definitely the best "Brosnan Seamaster" alternative. Great video BTW!
Thanks :)
I have a rev.2 Bambino but a dive watch with a day/date complication?I don't think so...............
Why not?
Because i have a parnis pa6007 at a fraction of the price amongs others but they are quartz............
Nothing wrong with Parnis as such, but I was wondering why not a dive watch with day/date?
I just don't see the need for it,unless a diver is going to lug extra tanks down to depth and stay down over night.Apart from that i don't like the imbalance in the overall design of the dial.
Ah ok... I get what you mean now.
None of the above. I chose the Orient Triton in blue.
*Edit: But out of the four I would go with the Ray II as well.
Thanks for the thoughts - a few others have also brought up the Triton model.
Thank you very much for this video. You help me a lot!
That’s great! Glad it was helpful! :)
I'm returning my loreo submariner as the time is always completely wrong even if I reset it and Idk much about watches so I don't know what's wrong with it. I think I'm going to spend the extra money and get a Ray II because I know it'll be good and it looks stunning
How fast or slow does it deviate each day?
@@PerthWAtch it can run absolutely fine some days and be wrong by 10 hours on other days
10 hours!? It ran flat then?
@@PerthWAtch I’ve only had it since Christmas
Power reserve is 40 hours if not worn or wound.
Hahaha awesome... I never thought of wearing a red watch during CNY... maybe I'll break out my Xiaomi Z Series skeleton red next year! :)
@@PerthWAtch Why not? I bought a Chinese new year themed nato strap with lion dance motif from Strapcode. lol
Why haven't I thought of that? Dunno... I guess maybe coz it's a little too on the nose with all the red around as it is, but actually it probably would fit in and not get a second look!
I was certain you'd pick the Kamasu!! - Maybe put sapphire on your Ray II? Well done for approaching 20K subs too! atb snack.
Thanks for that - I like that Armida!
@@PerthWAtch Thanks! Took me a while to find that iteration before they lowered all the specs.
Mako II based on overall design
Thanks for that William - in the end, I do reckon all four of these are solid watches.
I like this comparison! Orient has an incredible value considering the price range. Amongst these, my favorite is the Mako II.
I'm surprised it doesn't have a big modding community around it like the SKX, which is already overpriced.
Thanks for that... the Ray/Mako II may be the new SKX!
As is mine Andrea. In fact I’m wearing it watching this video!
PT111111 Agreed!
Perth WAtch Ivan, I don’t know why it isn’t!
Great video! Do you know if the bezels with the Mako 2 and Mako 1 are interchangeable?
Sorry man, I’m not aware if they are.
@@PerthWAtch ah no worries thanks for replying. I have a mako 1 in need of a new bezel insert.
I love the style of the ray 2 itself but it would be nice if it was offered with the Mako bracelet as an option
Good point!
Meaning to say kano and mako 3 are one?
What?
Nice video. I also chose the Ray ll and looking forward to receiving it tomorrow. How resistant is the crystal from scratches? Is it at par or similar to Seiko's Hardlex? It's somewhat of a concern for me.
Thanks :)
As far as my experience goes it seems to be fine, certainly haven't scratched these any more than Hardlex watches.
I like the kamasu the most but it's pretty hard to find at a good price here in Germany only the blue one I want the black
That’s a bummer... hopefully the situation improves!
Help me to choose! which better ray or mako iii kamasu? :(
Ray II gets my vote ;)
Perth WAtch why Ray II ?
For the reasons I described in detail in this video!
Perth WAtch but Ray III has a sapphire glass?
Yes
Ray II + saphir. And the seiko ff. Both in my collection
Awesome!!
Mako with the simple band from the Ray for me.
So buy both??
The third one on the first image is not the Ray III, its the Mako III
It’s variable labelled the Ray III, Mako III or Kamasu, depending on country being marketed in (it seems). I thought I explained that.
Don't like the Mako the way the day date takes the place of the 3 with the Arabics, not really balanced look to me. I would go with the Ray II. In fact I have in the past but flipped it to fund another watch.
Yeah good point... that would be another reason that I would not choose the Mako!
Hacking, Sapphire crystal makes me want think, the company is an established brand, Too close you're at the other side if the planert or woold sent it in for review, while they did a great job at replacement of the stem, it now does not uop tje power scale, but regukar use does, I can live with that,
Thanks for the vote of confidence man, I appreciate it :)
If only the Ray 2 came in an XL version, around 44mm. It's just a bit too small for my 8 inch wrists (for my taste). Still a great looking watch.
Yeah for that size 44mm would be more suited.
@@PerthWAtch Indeed. Honestly I think the color is more important than the style. That's why I ordered a Mako XL. As long as it has that gorgeous blue that Orient uses, it'll be a great looking watch.
The mako 2 usa is my favorite followed by ray 2
Thanks for sharing your choices!
Really enjoy your videos , thanks !
Thanks man! :)
Haha that’s awesome man - nice one!
Nice choice well done 👍👍👍
Thanks James :)
Still love my Ray 1!
Yeah would be a good comparison but obviously no longer available
Blue Kamasu of course ....
Why?
Coz i like it
Why?
😝
I’d put the extra money in and buy the Phoibos. , or pay less and get Invicta , cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Which Phoibos would you go for?
Ivan, this was a video well worth doing. Very interesting to see the comparison. I only wish that there was an Orient boutique here in the UK. I hope the nearest one is not in KL! Just as well perhaps, I would always be in it buying stuff!
Haha thanks for that Tony! Guess it doesn’t have to be a boutique... a well stocked dealer could serve just as well ;)
Got blue Ray II & loved it so much, ended up getting sunburst version as well
Haha nice one!
Good choice, what a looker!
Thanks man :)
