It's all good. Just keep going, no explanation needed. You have a good eye for color, & fabric combination that's not traditional which is interesting.
From my perspective, I'm here for inspiration, not to learn how to sew, other channels do that in detail that are educated teachers. Very often when I watch channels for inspiration I don't listen to the words & fast forward, so it's all good. Ty for posting.
@@georgiacorey954 thank you so much for watching and for your input
I totally agree! This is such a great jacket. I love how you attached the sleeves. I never thought of doing sleeves this way. Thank you for the inspo.
@@elainepeterson1269 thanks Elaine!!
Making mistakes is part of the creative process and that’s when you learn the most. Don’t be so hard on yourself. ❤ The jacket is beautiful.
@@christinesimpsonart thank you very much!
I prefer it without the upholstery fabric. Upholstery fabric is not meant to be washed. You really have to wash it separately to see if it will hold up. I find that iron on interfacing can really help keep it from ravelling, and serging or adding zigzag stitches can also help.
I have made more mistakes trying to upcycle than I can count and I appreciate your hard work and vision. Thank you for sharing.
@@icare4bunnies thank you for your input!
It’s gorgeous, and I’m glad you didn’t give up. Thank you for being transparent enough to show your mistakes.

I liked the green. And I love the brown. The bottom is super - love the mix of patterns in the patches.

I buy a lot of white/ivory colored clothing from the thrift. I love dying! Try it some time.❤ ❤
No worries!!! Things happen. Technology is persnickety. Just pick up where you can. It is what it is, as a photographer and crafty artist I get it. Sooo much work goes into all of it including the technology and the stop and start. I want to start a channel but it’s just too much for my brain at this moment in my life. Btw I’m loving this grungy green!!!!

Im only half way through the video, love the progress so far. I just wanted to say, please don't beat yourself up so much. Any kind hearted person watching this knows acvidents happen, even people whi have been doing this for years accidentally hit the wrong button. You are still learning and we understand that. You are doing great! My tip, not that my thoughts matter, in future if something goes wrong, apologize once and just keep going. I love watching your process and seeing the end result. Yiu are giving me inspiration to try upcycling myself, and i thank you for that. Now off to eatch the rest of the video.

Lisa, YOU DID NOT FAIL!!!! You took us all through a learning opportunity. I think the process was meant to happen. The upholstery fabric was gorgeous on it, but we all learnt , sadly, not meant for this kind of project...a good lesson. I love the final piece, I think it may be my new favorite that you have done. So glad you kept going...well done you!!! Look forward to seeing the next one ❤

So dont unstitch the patches. Work around them like a quilt. Sew on different shapes of fabric to cover up the strip. Keep the strip there but make sure your finishing patches go over the strip so if it shreds again, it'll shred underneath the patches!
@@kimpeasester I’ll have to definitely keep that in mind next time. TY
Looks nice I like it and your colors match wonderfully. Great job! 😊

@@shabbyroadstudio hi Lisa! It's me again...😊 I'm nearly finished with one of my dusters and its turning out soooooo cute! I started it without a theme in mind, tore some of it back out be cause it just didnt look right. Cut the shirt off, added 2 ruffles, one fabric and one lace, a couple buttons, some wide frayed cotton ribbon and several patches and I am loving it!Found some materials I'd forgotten about and used them, a huge patch for the back off of an old America tshirt from years ago that I'd saved, etc. It's my I love America duster...thank you so much for all your super great ideas, I'm so glad I found your channel...God bless! 🇺🇲❤💐

Its cute. We all make mistakes.. thats how a lot of major scientific discoveries are made . Please dont be embarrassed. Ive learned to enjoy laughing at my mistakes. The fancy green fabric is damask/brocade. It's a 2 for 1, because the reverse side is the opposite and gives another choice.
If this happened to me, I would have taken strips of spare fabric and used as binding /patching, sewing over both sides of seams with a fancy stitch, then letting edge fray.
Obviously it's used on upholstery, cushions, curtains, furniture and it's hard wearing. You need to hem it well by folding over then sewing, or overlocking otherwise. I think you may have not left enough seam allowance, or trimmed too close with pinking shears.
Without the brocade, it completely changes the vibe of the jacket, and I preferred it included. It's now much more masculine but then it has frills, and the brocade made it much less utilitarian.
It would have been possible to add this in patches, using a decorative stitch, or your messy stitch technique, where you go over it more than once.
I know this issue created a lot of extra work for you, but don't be afraid to use this fabric again, you just have to know how to handle it. I understand the frustration and disappointment it causes, it's always best to step away for a good while and look again with fresh eyes.
I'm glad you're now happy with it; I even liked the greener tones without dyeing it tbh too. Thanks for sharing 😊💜
@@purplepixie274 thanks for watching
This beautiful brocade could easily be left in. A small zigzag stitch on the outside of the jacket would hold it in place and add interest. It would look like a top stitch.
@@elainepeterson1269 it was a bit more complicated than that…actually
So cool ❤❤❤
