    On my Tecumseh 5 HP which is similar to the one in the video I found that it doesn't need full choke to start with fresh gas. I am running 10W-30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil as it usually doesn't get extremely cold where I live. It usually starts with the first pull on the recoil or press of the electric start button. I have another machine with a 4 HP Tecumseh and it starts on the first pull if you prime it correctly. If you have a Tecumseh with electric start I would check the starter mounting bolts periodically as they can loosen up and cause all kinds of grief including stripped out threads and broken parts. If you want your carburetor to last use the fuel shutoff to run it dry instead of using the kill switch when you are done using it. Some Tecumseh engines have a bowl drain which should be used to get every last drop of gas out. I drain the fuel tanks at the end of the winter and use any leftover gas in my car and start fresh at the beginning of the next winter season.

      safety shout off and yes it has to be in until it at least Lockes in place how ever if the 1 wire is broken off well it won't do its job to shut down in an emergency like your throttle gets stuck and won't shut off the blower 99% of people freak out and thats why the red switch is there to make sure the engine can be shut off in an emergency

      if its cable controlled you can try spraying PB Blaster down the cable to free it up i hate cable systems the rust up alot if you can get it free then youll . need a new cable that or you can take off the cable if that is what it has take it in the house let it thaw out then spay the cable and get your self some anti seize compound and that will fix it up then reinstall the cable and youll be good to go

      has it had gas in it all this time? if so pull the brass float bowl screw out of the carb there are 2 jets in it that need to be cleaned the one jet is tiny and hard to see youll need a twist tire wire and carb cleaner to clean it and dont lose the felt washer or screw it up do not pull the bowl off unless cleaning the jet failes in which case you might need a rebuild kit for the carb and they are super easy to do.. make sure to lube all moving parts as well i start with wd 40 to free stuff up then i use silcon spray after words as wd is a pneatrator not a lube , let me know how it goes for you.. you should not have to adjust any screws so avoid that if you can

    I have the same blower as pictured here except mine has no electric start. I was always starting it at full throttle but I won't anymore. When all warmed up the engine will hunt up and down slightly. If I turn the choke slightly from full on will smooth out. Should the carburetor need adjustment?

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  6 лет назад

      take the float bowl nut/screw out brass one on the bottom there is a tiny hole in the sucker that you need to clean out and clean out the larger hole as well and make sure you have fresh gas as well that should fix it if not then you will need to adjust the ideal screw till its smooth but this should fix it that tiny hole gets pluged when gas has sat to long at it ,, alot of people store their machines with gas over the summer. winter lawn mowers same deal anyhow try that let me me know how that work,s also if its been while put in a new spark plug as well .

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  3 года назад +1

      tho some would say buy the best its all BS how ever that being said if your going to leave gas in it over the summer you will need to add in a fule stabilizer when using low and mid level gas in order to keep octain levels up how ever i say that that is got some merit i say no matter what gas you use what ever is left in your can at the end of the season put it in your car and whats left ion the blower burn it off in your lawnmower and make sure your tank and hte carb are empty of all fule which you can do just buy running the machine till it stops

    What happens if I you press the electric start and it doesn’t start ??

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  2 года назад

      well that could be a few things bad power cable or your breaker is shut off or the starter is shot or the switch for the starter is shot this is of course asuming that when you mean wont start is that its not cranking over the motor now if it is cranking the motor over then make sure your choke is on and you hit the primer a few times first if that still fails make sure the gas is turned on for the carborator and that you have fresh gas in the tank as well. if it still failes to start and the motor is cranking over by pull start or the starter then you have a cloged carborator that needs a good cleaning and perhaps even a rebuild kit but also check first to make sure your spark plug works propelry as well.

    Hi there, found your video and it is very helpful. Thank you for making it. I have a question for you. I'm a new owner and bought a used snowblower. When I bought it, the gentleman told me to complete run the gas out at the end of the season so it won't have start up problem the next season. Today, I started the snowblower and run about 10 mins. I left the snowblower idle to catch a breather, then it shut off on itself. I tried to start it back up multiple times and it would only stay on for a few seconds. I check the gas tank and it does seems low on gas but there is definitely some fuel left (not much though). I'm just wondering if the snowblower won't run is due to low fuel. Secondly, if I need to complete it run out the gas, how can I since it won't stay on when the fuel is low. Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you very much

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  2 года назад

      sounds to me like a cloged jet problem in the carb but make sure first the your fule vlave is turnned on so gas can get to the carb other wise it can also just run for a few min then die ones the bowl is empty so turn in the valve let it sit for a min then start it up again and see if it stays running at the end of the winter season you should burn off all the gas in the tank and carb before summer storage, unless you are using high octane gas then you only need to treat the gas with gas stabilzer but low grade and med grade gas needs to be burned out other wise ift gels up and clogs the carb

      @@scottqizhang8718 if there is one its at the bottem of the tank so sounds like you dont have one so here is what you do pinch the fule line so no gas can flow other then what in the bowl now and remove the brass nut on the float bowl try and have help when doing this and have one on hold the bowl up in place so it does not come off then take the brass nut/screw that you removed and take a twist tie and clean of the plastic so you have a metal wire exposed and look very closy at the screw near the threads youll see a tiny tiny little hole or what looks like one and make sure its clear of anythign blocking it as its a tiny jet and if its clogged then shes not going to stay running anyhow clear it out and reinstall the screw snug up and let the crb fill back up and start it and see if it stays running there is also a larger jet as wel on the screw make sure its also clear

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  8 лет назад

      +vishnu tewari for the starter the cog could be stuck you will need to remove the starter and check it over to see whats happening, for the blower not starting at all you will need to take off the carb bowl but make sure to pinch the gas line with some vice grips first to stop fule going to the carb just dont put the vice grips on to tight you dont want to damage the gas line under the carb youll see the bowl and a nut take out the nut and carfully remove the bowl check to see how dirty stuff is in there clean it with carb cleaner reall well and hose down the carb with the carb cleaner as well and the nut is also a jet make sure it and the little tiny tiny hole are clear other wise blower wont start also check to make sure the float is also not got any gas inside it sometimes floats break down and gas gets in them .. also before you mess with the carb at all take of the cover protector for the carb and check all the moving links for the carb and make sure all the links etc. move freely 2 years ago i had to use some penarating oil to free stuff up again cause sitting over the summer then one year it all locked up on me ,, i always drain out all the gas in my machines when they are being stored for the summer season or winter season depening on the machines never store gas in them anymore unless you are using Hi Octane gas in your equipment the lower gades of gas have gel chem in them and even gas stabilizer does not stop the gel effect in lower grades of gas you need a spcial chem for the so less problems to just use Hi octane gas in everything

      On the exposed side of the carburetor [behind the metal box/cover], there's two screws [the upper is sometimes a flat, sometimes torx]. The lower one near the edge of the metal float bowl [usually a flat], is either an adjustable steel needle valve screw with a vibration dampening lock spring, or a brass fixed low-speed fuel orifice. The setup depends on the model year. The screw on the bottom of the bowl is your high-speed fuel mixture adjustment, for high load at high rpm. So remove the low-speed mixture screw/jet orifice, and blast carb cleaner spray with the straw into the carb casting, and thru the removed brass jet. If you have a needle valve to re-set, count 1.5 to 2 turns out from fully seated and base your fine tuning for the climate from there. Don't tune a cold engine. The closer the engine is to operating temp when you tune it, the better performance will be when you're working it. A cold-tuned carb runs rich at op. temp, and a rich mixture at temp will reduce oil quality and engine longevity by washing the oil film off the cylinder and unburned fuel entering the oil sump past the rings.

    I tried to start mine today and it stopped after 2 seconds, and all the other times it just Said "Pang" and didn't really start. Is it because throttle was on full or can it be something else? I had choke on.

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  4 года назад

      pull 3 times with choke on if oyu have a primer prim it as well before you try and start it then move the choke to middel position then should start let idel for a few min then you can take the choke off all the way and ramp up the throttle never start an engine at full throttle or untill its warmed up a bit ,, failing all this if it still dont run then you might have clogged jets which means takeapart time clean the carb out good and a rebuild it as well the bowl seals usually dont seal again

      clean the carb put ina new plug and fresh gas also clean the brass nut the holds the float bowl in it has 2 jets a large one and a relly tiny tiny one that has to be clean use a twist tie after you remove the plastic from the tie the wire in it is the right size for the tiny jet .. let me know how that goes

    • @gordd7348
      @gordd7348 6 лет назад

      All of that should be fine as it is a new carb this year. Also the key does not shut the engine off so i have to slow the throttle to the minimum and turn on the choke to shut it down.

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  9 лет назад

      vodka high few things to look at 1. make sure the fule shut off valve under the tank if there is one is turned on next thing to look at if thats ok is there is a bolt under the float bowl and it has some fine holes that need to be cleaned time to time so make sure you pinch off or turn of fule to the carb then remove the bolt and use a twist tie that you take the coating off of first and clear the holes out then put the bolt back in turn on the gas waite for 2 min then hit the primmer a few times turn on the choke and give her a go if it runs in in business if not then you might have to get a rebuild kit for the carb also check your spark plug to make sure you have spark

      mine is a Yard Machines/MTD 24" Snow Blower cant find a shutoff also float bowl might be bad has bolt and a bleeder on it i push it in gas come out look durty no pressure when i push the prime hose good not rotted thinking its the bowl ring rubber seal maybe where can i get replacement lows

    • @KevinMillard68
      @KevinMillard68  9 лет назад

      vodka high you dont get pressure its a mister primer only.. you got dirty gas then the jets in the bolt are clogged, drain out all the gas take out the bolt spray carb clener up the hole where the bolt came out of then clean the holes out in the bolt i mentioned then put it back together , after then get some NEW gas put about 1/4 of a tank in let sit for a few min hit the primer fast bursts about 4 times make sure the choke is on when you do this then first it up if it wont stay running run or does not run at all then you will need to goto any small engine shop and get a carb kit for it youll need to take the carb with you , PS 95% of the time i always buy a new float bowl when i buy a carb kit.. dont mess with the carb screws by the way not at first .. and take pictures if you have to take off the carb its very importante to get everything back togeter properly if you have to remove the carb from the machine
