  • A quick edit from one of our recent trips out to the south jetty of the Humboldt Bay fishing for Rock Fish. Fishing started out slow but really picked up so much so that I wasn't able to clean the fish fast enough before Christine had another one hooked up.

Do you have better luck on the bay end of the jetty compared to the west end along the strip?

I have never spent to much time fishing the ocean side on either the north or the south jetty. But when ive tried it ive never had much luck. I think the channel side is the way to go!!

Hey there, I was wondering is there a way I could get in contact with you? I’m currently out here for a month and I was there literally a few days ago. I didn’t even get a bite. Would love to bump heads with you if you had a few minutes to spare

Dang, I haven’t been there since they were working on the jetty and it looks way different! Hope it’s still accessible for poke-poling.
Seems like you’re hooking most of them right by the rocks. I usually hook em 1/2-3/4 cast out, though I did get an 18 1/2” cabbie right next to the rocks once

You can definitely still poke pull it at low tide. Thats actually something I’ve really been wanting to try. But yeah id say 80% are hooked like 15 or so feet off the jetty. Only thing I’ve ever caught casting out far is a salmon which was probably a once in a lifetime thing haha

Still have yet to catch a legal cab off either the north or the south side. Maybe this summer!!

Great video. In Placerville 43 years and never fished the Humbolt jetties. Planning a 3 day trip up there, with my truck camper, maybe in the next few days. Is that strip of dirt, on the douth jetty along the rocks, packed hard enough to support a 2 wheel drive pickup and camper shell? I just want to catch a limit of Rockfish. Tired of buying mushy frozen fish fillets from China. New subscriber.

Your definitely good on the road. Its pretty beat up but people drive cars out there. Catching a limit of rocks is a pretty rough task. You really need the tide, waves, and time of day to all line up to get a limit. I would say you could have some luck next weekend once the waves calm down. Next few days would be rough. But once the oceans got low energy and low wave height itll be a lot better. I use the surf forecasts to tell all that info. Texas rigs with a swim bate are our favorite to throw get the least amount of snags that way. Best of luck if you do make the trip!! If you dont catch any fish its a beautiful place to toss a line in the water.

Yep! Winds look to be iffy, for the next couple of weeks. I'll wait 'til I see several days of single digit wind. Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to spending a few days, out there. I love fishing off the rocks. Tight lines.
