Best scene of the movie and so so well acted! You emediately wish for a flamenco teacher like this. Even if u have nothing with flamenco you want to take lessons cause of this teacher!
I second that. And also ITV's Persuasion. That was the one that really hooked me up and got me interested into Sally's work. She's just brilliant in it. And I was really shocked discovering afterwards that she's mostly known not for dramatic period roles as the one in Persuasion but rather for contemporary comedies. So great was she in it.
She's actually English. That's how good of an actress she is. If you watch 'Another Year', you'll see her play an English Poppy type character. She did a great accent in this.
I just saw Karina Fernandez's performance in Mike Leigh's most recent film Another Year (2010), and I still can't believe she is the flamenco instructor in this film. She is completely different!!!! I'm so amazed. That's really great acting on her part. I noticed Mike Leigh uses some of the same actors in several of his films (e.g. Ruth Sheen and Imelda Staunton). Hopefully we will see more of Ms. Fernandez in the near future. Fingers crossed!
I had the exact same reaction. I love Another Year and I couldn't get over that this was the same actress. I also felt the same with Lesley Manville, as she was also incredibly memorable in Another Year, but I couldn't believe she was the same actress in another Mike Leigh movie.
I finally recognized where the tall woman in red (standing next to Sally Hawkins) is from. Her name is Rebekah Staton, and I first saw her in the TV mini-series Tess of the D'urbervilles (2008) some time ago. She had blond hair then. She played Marion, friend and fellow milkmaid of Tess Durbeyfield (played by Gemma Arterton). I hope to see more of her in the future as well.
Watching this repeatedly to realize of which comedic actor she reminds me. Harpo Marx could not help but react to all happening all around and often checks for fellow audience. The clumping attempt to remove incongruent sunglasses is wonderful theater; she stands out for the same reason ‘Where’s Waldo ?’ does not. Could Poppy discipline into flamenco? We want most to see her grinning happy. Sally Hawkins does so very well sharing inner character from Poppy’s true empathy, Maudie’s understandable insecurity but depth when following a small paintbrush, and Elisa Esposito doing an occasional dance step. I love these women. Hooray for Sally.
im from seville, and i see the video and its amazing and soo funy i cant stop smilling hahahah its so grreat...i want to see the all movie ..amazing xdd sorry the writing...i speak more better but my inglish writing some time its usefulll xd
Ahah i was expecting something totally off like it often is when people make fun of flamenco but it's not so bad. Like my palmas teacher in seville said "you rhhave to use la fuerza"
Here is Seville we are not like that, i have no accent, at least not like Rosita, and i can't dance Flamenco (actually i don't like it). Come to Seville, there's a lot of things to do...
Mike Leigh is a fantastic director..... but, as a (very) proud Gypsy, I find the script for this scene racist. Just saying... 🇬🇧🏴👍....... versus 🇩🇪 + 🇮🇱 + 🇦🇫 = 👎👎
It´s art, they never intended to imitate the real life- the best art is made for the sake of art :). You also make art every day by giving meaning to things you do and witness. Don´t take your goodness, drive for perfection etc as self-explanatory, cause it never is :).
One of the best scenes of any film, ever. Hard to believe the flamenco dance teacher is English.
she's amazing. She's pretty much in every Mike leigh film. She's great in another year too
I'm Spanish and I thought she was too. She has a good English grammar but her accent is Spanish
She is half Spanish!
tommo91 she’s only in 3 Mike Leigh films lmao
Is she?? 😱
I laughed my a** off with this scene. Sally was funny as hell. She's really a gifted actress
So cute when she tries to look 'angry' and 'ferocious'.
Ok I've had a spanish gymnastics coach for ten years and this is just too real I can see her yelling "ESPRESSION!!!" This scene is amazing!!
Best scene of the movie and so so well acted! You emediately wish for a flamenco teacher like this. Even if u have nothing with flamenco you want to take lessons cause of this teacher!
Went from powerful and funny to heartbreaking in seconds. Superb movie!
I loved it! Love Sally Hawkins so much
The actress who plays the flamenco teacher was also great in Another Year - she needs to be in more films!
I love Sally, what an actress!!!

Though, it's kind of rough watching what happens to her in the second half...
I got to the end of the video and then collapsed with laughter. Brilliant scene.
Sally Hawkins deserves all the awards. She can say so much with just her facial expressions.
Saaaallyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!! You are adorable!
She's actually English. That's how good of an actress she is. If you watch 'Another Year', you'll see her play an English Poppy type character. She did a great accent in this.
She's such a versatile actress.
I love this! So fun - I don't know why this makes laugh so much 😂

Thank god this film had this moment, if not, it would have been a film to absolutely forget about.
When something is deemed weird... You can make it acceptable.... I think that is pretty solid advice. I'm smart yo!
"...sen-too-rees...sen-too-rees..."
Adorable accent.
So many feelings in this small scene. This spanish acttress is great. Spain must be very proud.
Armando Ibanez de la cruz isn't it shocking that she's actually English?
Qué buena peli. La clase de flamenco, genial.

Came here for disgusting marmalade.
The accent seems a bit forced, and more Italian sounding than Spanish (specially in the beginning), but still good.
It´s art, they never intended to imitate the real life- the best art is made for the sake of art :). You also make art every day by giving meaning to things you do and witness. Don´t take your goodness, drive for perfection etc as self-explanatory, cause it never is :).
I'm Spanish and I don't agree with you
Actually is not Italian..it's spanish.Paolo from Rome.
Sara Criado You should learn about Italian and obviously Spanish to start to comment something about these two different languages.
Er, no, it sounds like my friends from Spain.
But the style was still Hollywood, a mexican hollywood style movie is the same shit, got it?
Really annoying character... "En ra ha, en racha."
