I've heard many supositions of the origins of the word flamenco. For example the Flemmish part of Belgium, that was once part of Spain. Flemish in Spanish is Flamenco. The theory is that the king asked a gypsy to dance to the "flamenco"(Baílale al flamenco). This is not the only theory of the word flamenco. But in general there are a lot of theories... Nowadays all we've got are theories of the word, we don't know exactly the origin.
