Tips : When you are in the Refine section, use the option "New layer with mask" for a better result. When you use this option, affinity photo apply a color decontamination at the same time, that i noticed. Great video
So easy to follow you in this as you went at a good pace and spoke clearly. I just paused, wrote the step down then did it on my own images. Thank you so much
Another great tutorial! You always make it so easy to get to some awesome results. BTW All your courses are just fantastic. I highly recommend them! :D
Your presentation was paced so well and explained in such a real world way that It made total sense to me, I have only ever used Davinci Resolve for this type of thing. Affinity has sat up to date on my computer and not been used. And because of your amazing video I feel renewed excitement to try more things like this. Thank you for making this tutorial. !
Thanks Ally. Fun video with some great hacks. How are you liking V2? A lot of complaints all over the place. Just wondering your take? Hope you and Erza had a wonderful Thanksgiving with tons to be thankful for. You are one of many things I am thankful for! Go purchase her courses'...well worth it!
I like V2 for the most part. I haven't encountered any major bugs, and I like the new interface. The only thing I don't like is how pressing on the mask button opens that mask pop out menu, instead of just applying a mask. V1 was simpler in that way, but it's not a big deal. And happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well! :)
Another great video, Ally. Your timing was perfect for me- I have been looking around at some apps and programs that "automatically" remove backgrounds. They're not perfect, but can be quick and easy. You've just provided a great alternative in Photo. Thanks for the early Christmas present!
Masking things, especially hair, grass, twigs etc in AP (both v1 and v2), is pretty hard if the image is complex and one want it to look extra good. The Refine Selection tool is really messy, I've even had difficulties making things with a solid background. I wish the devs could improve this since one often has to separate objects in images. I tried Luminar AI and it does a great job with separating objects so hopefully we can see this on AP as well.
thanks great tutorial... Is possible to resize the immage on the new background? lets say that the waman is way to big to be put in the background than we need to resize the immage in a smaller one... (once she is in the new background)
Yes, you can use the Move Tool (the tool that looks like a black arrow) to resize things. Just remember to unlock your layer first, by pressing on the lock icon next to its layer in the Layers Panel.
An excellent tutorial as usual. However, I could not transfer the new background. I entered place and my desktop appeared. I selected the image but nothing happened. where did I go wrong please?
Thank you for your video. I used your process to replace a blown-out sky on a landscape photo. After "placing" the new sky I noticed that there is a thin bright line where the landscape photo and sky meet. How can I get rid of this line? Thank you very much
You could make a video about the embedded file and its editing through image processing (mask, deletion, color correction, effects, etc...) I personally tried it and it's ridiculous how slow it is compared to photoshop. Maybe you can help.
hi, i see your video "How to Blend Two Images | Affinity Photo Fantasy Composite" and the technique for blending the 2 elements is different from this one. Are the techniques you use to composite several elements (filter ect ...) specific to the project, or as this video is more recent you suggest using this technique rather than the one used on the video mentioned above. It's complicated to find an overall technique to mix several elements for compositing. thanks
It really depends on the photos you're using. Depending on your photos, you will need to use different techniques. This video kept it nice & simple, while the "How to Blend Two Images | Affinity Photo Fantasy Composite" is a little more advanced. If you'd like to learn more, I have whole compositing course, where I go into much greater depth on compositing. courses.affinityrevolution.com/p/compositing-for-beginners
Love your videos. I noticed that this is V2. When I use a brush on V2, I seem to have lost the circle brush 'guide' on the cursor - only seeing a crosshair. I've tried messing with the settings in user interface but can't seem to get the circle back. Just wondering if you know if there is an easy fix? Thanks in advance.
I know there's a setting you can change in the Preferences to turn the crosshair on/off. Go to Preferences, User Interface, and then turn off the box that says "always show crosshair". If that doesn't work, you could try getting out a different brush from the Brush's Panel.
Ally, I'm trying to extract a photo of a boat on the water in action. Then I'd like to cartoonist it for a tshirt graphic. Is there a video for the process?
The description says: "5 days ago". Were you using V1 or V2 of Affinity for this? Also, if that was a Bride's dress, the blue was wrong. How would you get the dress true-to-white if it was a Bridal Dress? Otherwise, good Tutorial. How would you expect V2 to be able to improve this tutorial?
@@AffinityRevolution I'm surprised that you did this in V2! I thought selections were 'amazingly enhanced' in V2. The selections for hair didn't seem to be much improved. What's your take? I've tried desaturating Bride's Dresses -- it looks fake. It gets complicated because, when doing 'candids' every surface and light source sheds its own shade and color on the Bride's White dress -- but some times, I get frustrated, and I'll desat -- to some degree --anyway.
@@tkarlmann As far as I can tell, the selection tools are the same in V2. I really hope that's an improvement they work on soon though, because selections are so important! I did a video on how to change any color, including how to make it black or white: ruclips.net/video/UVhl_tI7Gq8/видео.html
@@AffinityRevolution Ally: you are, as usual, correct. I thought somehow that the selections were now AI; I may have been thinking of some other program. Thanks for the correction & the Reply! when I follow your directions and use the select tool to draw around the image that I want to replace the background, when I click the Mask icon there is no drop down list. Just mask. Then I do not get the transparent background after I hit refine and then apply. Your instructions are very clear but they do not work for me. I do not know what I am doing wrong.

You can make the dress white by desaturating it with an HSL adjustment.
