  • Every fall, king tide and sea level rise flooding season brings misery to many coastal communities. A special alignment of the moon and sun create create extra high tides that inundate properties along beaches, bays and inland waterways. This drone and ground-based video shows the historic Marina District on the Intracoastal Waterway in Delray Beach, Florida. The neighborhood is inundated every king tide season and during strong coastal storms. This is the first round of a series of flooding events that will top out on Thursday.
The flooding grows worse every year due to sea level rise. Coastal communities and private property owners are spending billions of dollars raising seawalls, installing pumps, and elevating properties and critical infrastructure to combat king tide sea level rise flooding. This type of flooding is a symptom of the disease of climate change due to humans burning too many fossil fuels -- oil, coal and natural gas -- that release the greenhouse gases that are warming the planet.
