I've had one of these on my goldfish tank for a couple of years and it's been great- especially for the money. It's not perfect, like for example: I wish it had stronger handles as opening up the prefilter does leak a bit, so I tend to crack it open in the bathtub and carrying it around, the plastic handles feel like they could snap at any minute. As for setup, I've got a course sponge on the bottom, then a medium sponge, then I have two trays of Maxspect Nano-Tech Bio-Spheres (strongly recommend), then I finish with a filter floss. It has been terrific. Unfortunately Aquael has released a newer version of this filter. The new version takes an impeller that looks the same as the old one, but must be magnetized differently and doesn't work in the older models. It's now really hard for me to get my hands on replacement impellers for my filter, which has been extremely disappointing. I'm now looking to move towards an Oase Biomaster Thermo 850, purely because it look me 5 weeks to get a replacement impeller (here in Australia) for my older model Ultramax 2000. I'm really sad about it as it's been a reliable cannister filter for my goldfish tank.

Brilliant filter .i have swapped out my EHEIMS for this filter. you can get 2 of these for the same price .or one and packed it out with BIOHOME and still have a bit of change. It has to be the quietest large external filter out of the box i have ever owned in 30yrs .not sure how AQUAEL did it for the price ,power and wattage .My heavily stocked tank is clear 20 minutes after feeding. Be sure to remove and lubricate and reseat again both o rings (IT IS ALSO SUPPLIED) on first set up as good practice.... .recommend this filter all day long. Thanks for the great video .
Hello Richard, I live in Holland and use different products from this Poland compagny wich makes very good products and the quality is very good, I use the Ultra 1400 filter which is the simple version of the UltraMax filter range ( 1000, 1500,2000) .these Ultra filters 900, 1200, 1400, have no pre filter no extra noise absorbing feet/frame and no separate in and outlet take holders have the same ceramic ax. In the impeller.But these are also great filters with a simple but great volume for bio media.Made from very Durable smooth plastic.They have a big range of aquarium products.Here in Europa they are not so big but they are improving their Products.Nice review. Which model did you get? Some of the 2000s came with 16/22 originally but were updated to 19/25. I'm hoping I get the 16/22 model but it's not likely. Do you run it with 19/25 hose? Or do you reduce it to something more common like 16/22? I want to reduce mine if I get the larger size hose, I'll have Lilys and a reactor and all those accessories will take 5/8" hose

I have one running for two years on a south american cichlid tank.. Strong and super silent. Can be a bit messy when cleaning... ;-) I have mostly had Eheims before but they have sort of turn flimsy and they arent as silent. Now selling my Eheim 1200XLT (which is a Great filter but not as silent as the Aquael). i live in sweden

Hi, wondering if you could help. The one we got is used and it’s requiring 220 volts do I just need to buy a voltage transformer?

Ultramax 2000 is great. Still going strong for 1 1/2 year and easy to maintain with the pre filter. I see you bought the filter! Great!
