So if there’s anyone wanting to know what the noise was in the first clip- it was a special pack that skiers put on before the go skiing. It inflates with air like an airbag when it senses snow on the persons body, so that noise was inflating the pack to make the body of the skier float instead of being buried under snow or ice. When I was caught in an avalanche last season it was the scariest moment of my life. Just feeling the mountain “move” under you... I was sure glad I wore a pack.
I've been burried alive in an avalanche when I was 14, it took me 4 years to stop doing night terrors.. It's way more scary than you think.. Stay safe as much as possible when you ride overthere
I remember I was on a ski trip with my 2 best freind and my freind said let's go and he goes first and triggered and avalanche I saw him fall down and hit a little tree. He got buried And my other freind and I went looking for him we found after about 1 minute and he said he felt like he was down there for ages and said I couldn't move and could hardly breathe we later found out he broke his arm from hitting that tree he couldn't sleep for 1 year his mom told me that he would start screaming in his sleep and punch the air. He is ok now and is starting to snowboard again but he never does it alone because if we weren't there he'd be long gone..
I agree. Nobody should go skiing alone, no matter the skill level. It doesn't matter. Skill can slightly help, though you can still get really hurt skiing alone.
i am 16 years old and decided to go and experiment a bit on the backcountry on my own without even knowing the terrain well. I had only seen that part of the backcountry from the lift when it was about 200 meters away from me and the lift, so i scoped it a bit and went for it only to find myself in a steep mountain face. And me being a lucky motherfuckker, as i was making my way down the face, i saw a group of freeriders prepared with airbags, probes and even backcountry freeride guides staring at me thinking "what in the actual fuck is this guy even doing. And so i stopped near them and one of them asked me if i was alone to which i replied yes. And he gave me a small talk on how this was an avalanche risk area and i should never come here alone and unprepared and how they always stayed in groups, prepared with beacons, probes, ava airbags and shit. The guy told me to follow him down the mountain and thank god nothing bad happened to me. So shit, the whole moral of the story is to never underestimate a line. You will probably think "shit man, this isn't nothing, i can see it from here. It's not that i'm in the alps where an avalanche will bury me and all so let me just try this and get some cool footage on my gopro" but that will cost you your life. As soon as you leave the slopes, you're in the hands of the weather conditions and mother nature so please everyone make sure to always be prepared and never go on the backcountry alone
I think he survived with either frostbite or serious injuries. Since the clip was uploaded. He either dug out with all his strength, or got rescued by someone. Edit: Someone also could have taken his (Go Pro.) and uploaded it. Still, it could by anything.

There a few videos of people outriding avalanches. In those instances they typically aren't riding on top of it per se, because as moving powder it's essentially impossible due to it now acting like a fluid, but they are riding ahead of the cascading break where the ski/board can still get some bite.
Avalanches are very common in the mountains that I live in. The skiing areas that I go to have very tall, rocky mountains that are prone to avalanches so they set off an avalanche bomb every once and a while during the season to prevent unexpected avalanches. Obviously they don’t set off the bomb when people are skiing, of course
Xxxgacha_Nathen Xxx I think it’s because they don’t want to scare themselves even more and then start to panic. Panicking can make you lose concentration most the time, or make you have no idea what you’re doing to try to make the situation better.

For those newbies that are watching this...whenever you are in an avalanche the safest thing to do is swim parellel to the beach until it subsides and you can safely get back.
It remains a popular myth that avalanches can be triggered by noise. We will take a closer look and compare the impact of sound, the supersonic boom caused by low flying military aircrafts and explosives on the snow cover. Avalanche release by explosives is the method of choice for avalanche mitigation and for achieving infrastructure safety by avalanche control services. Explosions lead to high pressures and acceleration rates. Wave propagation is possible in three media: in air, within the snow cover and through the ground. Depending on the type of source, shock or pressure waves originate and propagate in air. Having reached the airfilled pores in the snow the latter may affect the ice matrix. The deformation caused is assumed to be proportional to the pressure amplitude of the wave at the surface. The pressure amplitudes caused by shouting or loud noise are at least about two orders of magnitude smaller (a few Pascal) than known efficient triggers. Triggering by sound can therefore be ruled out as a triggering option.
Imagine you're just skiing and all of a sudden the ground just collapses on you. It's especially scary knowing that if you're unlucky, you're getting buried alive.
