  • Air India may have a new logo and there may be a new Air India livery, but my recent First Class domestic experience shows there's a lot more to fix than just the brand. Join me as I fly from Mumbai to Delhi on a Boeing 777-300ER, and follow my strange and - frankly disappointing - journey. Air India...please fix! (And give your cabin crew a raise!!)

With this lack of maintenance on customer-facing items, I'd be more concerned about the lack of maintenance on the structural and mechanical aspects of the plane itself.

When I flew Heathrow to Delhi, I was shocked by the state of the plane. My entertainment display wasn’t working. I looked around and saw actually apart from 2-3 seats nearly every display was broken. But what I found even more shocking was I was only one complaining about this! Everyone else (most passengers were Indian) was ok. The guy next to me said, “This is Air India, if the plane flies, we’re happy.”

I took my Daughters to India. The police at customs where armed & signs on the walls said something to the effect of 'REPORT STAFF WHO ASK FOR BRIBES' 15 minutes before boarding an armed Customs person forced me to go out the back with him, leaving my Daughters. I had the foresight to photograph the sign as we went, after 10 minutes in the back he let me go. I was actually terrified. On the flight a group of Korean teenagers told us they'd been forced to pay $350 each after the same treatment. I felt I'd avoided terror leaving India. There is SERIOUS corruption still.

All those wear-and-tear defects, grime, pen marks and other physical problems with the seat/space itself (including gadgetry issues) severely diminished any interest I might have in booking a flight with India Air, but none of that was a deal-breaker, even all of it combined. But an airline that doesn't want/allow me to flush my pajamas down the toilet has crossed the line. That's simply unacceptable, not what I expect from a decent airline. Even the poorest of the poor traveling steerage to make a new life in America didn't have that indignity imposed on them. No-pajama toilets are inexcusable.

People in comments section: "India is a developing country, you cannot expect luxury" blah blah... if thats the case, why are they offering luxury services?? They should stick to economy for the entire airline and not operate business and first class, but yet, they still offer business and first class and charge FIRST class prices for rubbish and disgusting service. There is NO excuse for intentionally charging people thousands of dollars (knowing they cannot provide these services) and allowing them to sit in a broken seat that hasn't been properly cleaned. People pay ALOT of $$$ to have these extra services and if they don't provide them, they are scamming you and ripping you off. It can also be classed as false advertising. Thats like paying for a 10kg bag of rice, but only getting 2kg or like walking into a restaurant, you pay for a steak dinner and they bring out a empty plate saying, "sorry, we don't have any steak left, but no refunds", its a scam, plain and simple.

Poverty is currently shrinking rapidly as more and more Indians are entering middle class category!
India has the fastest growing middle class and currently India is in its transition phase something which China faced in 1990s, South Korea in 1970s!

I didn't realize until much later that there was a second, much nicer business lounge (no concierge to tell me anything), that had real AC instead of fan. The airplane was double decker 747, and my business class seat was on the upper floor - I was just a young business traveler and it felt prestige to be up on the 2nd floor, where about 30 of us had 2 dedicated flight attendants, giving us anything at any time. The seats and plane were not new even then. I even got a portable DVD player for my movies. Very old school stuff, but the service was excellent.

And when it comes to hygiene I completely agree with you 90% of streets in India are filled with garbage with no garbage bins.
Coming to a hotel all affordable hotels come with a foul smell and people spitting on wall for free.
I'm definitely not with the fake promoting people who say India is one of the best country.
My Indian brothers please understand yes there are some good places but coming to the majority there are more worst place. I hope through elections you understand the majority concept, don't come on me blah blah.

She tried to tell us that we probably wouldn't like it as it would taste sour to us. Naturally, we still wanted this new beverage. Of course, as soon as we tasted it we had a reaction similar to yours. However, buttermilk is a great marinade for chicken and is delicious in making biscuits(sort of like but not scones for you Brits). I applaud you for your willingness to try new foods and beverages. when you see such old style cabines be aware the plane is old and surely isnt in good shape, they are waiting for one to have a problem or even the worse so they can retire the all fleet of the same year and replace by new planes..i would never fly in one of those , you are a man of courage

The ceiling and pillars at the airport remind me of honeycombs. So interesting. Their lounge sounds understaffed and claustrophobic.

Thanks a lots for highlighting such minute level flaws in 4K along with costing on your own pocket... Seen few of similar videos that you have done for other airlines, you were on same precision level. Hope Air India will take these good points under considerations. Air India will be sooner going to be among top 7 rank worldwide along with 5 Star Certified airline under the Tata Groups, this may also merge its subsidiaries like Vistara with overall landscape of domestic/international flits.

@@user-im9ne5xx4r You are right Bro. This is not going to be easy as the Airline Industry is really very competitive and shows world class standards in hospitality service. However at the same time as you pointed that domestic services also count in this ranking. Air India has great potential now, as having a larger landscape globally itself and going to extend its foot prints at next level under the current ownership.

My husband flew Akasa ( delhi - Mum ) and he regrets booking it . He was nearly denied a boarding pass despite being within the hour at the domestic airport at Delhi and asked to book another flight . When he did get the ticket the flight was actually 40 minutes late . The cabin was one of the most cramped that you can get . And the people ...well they couldn't care less . He's Never flying Akasa again .

I was waiting on a connecting flight while in the airport in "Bombay" in 1988, and the mosquitos inside were so vicious I had to buy a leather jacket for protection from them. Glad to see some improvements there.

Fair enough Paul. I just hope that the new cabins become the glimmer of hope that air India is here to stay. However, after watching their cabin unveil video, I honestly felt that their first class is bordering on being a business class suite, rather than a being a proper first class. But it will no doubt be way better than their existing product. Here's to wishing Air India clearer skies and a brighter future.

I think the new First Class looks alright - it's a surprise it's being kept when so many airlines are ditching their F cabins! But the real tell is how they manage cabin maintenance and soft service in all cabins, I think. They actually have great staff and a unique culture and I was a little disappointed in the rebrand, which makes the airline look so generic!

India is one of my favourite places , it's people and culture is amazing and you always get such a warm welcome. However i have flown on several of their airlines and the cabins are always filthy and showing signs of poor maintenance. Your new product looks great Air India but if you don't keep it clean and maintained you are just wasting your money

Here`s what you must do. Book economy. Get on the plane, sit down, buckle up, put your earplugs in and take a sleeping tablet. Then it doesn`t matter what class you fly on.. And you save a LOT of money. Travel Valium class for a guaranteed peaceful flight.
