Unbelievable , I can listen to this great musician again . I still remember his recitals in St.-Petersbourg when I was kid. And what a disgrace to Moscow audience, that looks completely indifferent to the magic of his playing. Thank you, ADGO.
Thanks so very much for this treasure by the master Sokolov at his very best. A complete realisation of Beethoven’s vision, humanity, and tender vulnerability.
@@ediccartman7252 It has, it is a lot due to early work of all Chopin Etudes, all Well tempered Klavier, both being practiced only in Russian schools. This is what makes a pianist, + his talent of course.
@@Paroles_et_Musique you have too high expectations about us lol - very few people play here all WTC and all Chopin's etudes . I even don't talk about playing it at Sokolov's level
Wow, this is GS at his, creating an unique intensity that takes literally your breath. I intensely remember that from his recitals I joined. Even between the many gorgeous recordings by him I know the immediacy of this performance stands out. Many thanks ADGO!!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Adgo, for your always original and often just heavenly musical discoveries! And the wonderful possibility sometimes as well to share our feelings and opinions in a very constructive and instructive way! So great of you.
Como sempre é fantástico! Assisti muitos consertos de Sokolov. Sem dúvida é uma figura mais alta no céu de arte pianística! A música interpretada por Sokolov apresenta- se numa verdade profunda dos sentidos. Obrigada!
I see him in colmar international festival and in Bordeaux. Is talent is unproportionnal with his hair. In resume less has he hair, more is he a genius. Like a big Bordeaux, the bonification is uncredible. For Beetoven, rameaux , Bach, Chopin, the best pianist in unser Word coronavirus
Much better 30 years later! He became a real master and lost his studeous approach of early years! He is a real descendant of his god father Emil Gilels.
May I allow myself to use this commentaries section to point you out -but you may already know it- about an all Chopin-recital by Mikhaïl Pletnev this next Monday Feb. 15, 20.30, in streaming live from Bari's Teatro Petruzzelli, on their RUclips channel?
Now, after listening to the complete performance, then going back to listen to Richard Goode's version (since he has long been my favorite for Beethoven Sonatas, and, imho, seemingly unfortunately and relatively overlooked as such.) as someone mentioned, memorable as Sokolov's performance is, I think Goode surpasses it with a sense of refinement and polish and letting Beethoven speak for himself. Either way thanks for posting this historical performance. PS, I'd like to think Beethoven himself was more like Goode. But who will ever know.
Beethoven was actually a quite sloppy player who missed notes often. I was extremely disappointed to read this, but it's true. Not just due to his deafness, but even at the height of his virtuosity, he placed far more emphasis on passion than accuracy. Sokolov, on the other hand, is a perfectionist of the highest order, as we can all see here. Furthermore, Sokolov has access to far more precise instruments than Beethoven did.
@@brianpaultv As you said: "...more emphasis on passion than on accuracy..." I.e. the correct relationship between the end and the mains... But there is no mutual exclusion: "a perfectionist" (like Sokolov) can be passionate ; and "a passionate" (like Beethoven) can have his very personal perfectionism... P.S. You're blessed with a inspiring family name...
Quello che tu definisci `dissonante` credo sia solo l`insufficente qualita della registrazione, il suo di Sokolov e` pulitissimo dal vivo e anche molto piu `ricco`
A very exciting performance, but just a tad too crisp for my taste. Too sharp at every corner. No doubt Sokolov would have made an outstanding drummer.
Epic as ever. He brings all the drama of a symphony to this sonata. Stunning.
0:00 I. Allegro molto e con brio
8:37 II. Largo con gran espressione
17:16 III. Allegro "Trio"
21:58 IV. Rondo: Poco allegretto e grazioso
the ability to put intense tension throughout the whole performance is insane
He is an entire orchestra! I have never heard this sonata performed as monumental as this.
Holy cow. This is the top Op.7 I've ever listened to.
You must be from India ;)
Sokolov's interpretations speak to an extraordinary musical intelligence. He is both supervirtuoso and conductor at the keys.
Sokolov has his own unique style of playing.
But listen to ARTURO BENEDETTI MICHELANGELI
Always imagine Beethoven playing...Out of this world !!
Total mastery.
My goodnes the great Masters must be proud of this piano prodigy. Umbeliable levels of mastership
With eyes closed I think I'm hearing Gilels. Power and fluidity.
The best interpretation I've heard!

Only two bars and you can feel the Russian School at his best. Infinite musicianship, class and technique. Thanks for this gift!
It's Sokolov's school at his best. Nothing to do with Russia :))

Interesting point which asks the question...would he or wouldn't he have.

Non condivido l' interpretazione troppo dissonante dopo aver sentito quella di Michelangeli
Michelangeli? Magari se avesse ricevuto alcune lezioni da Sokolv, avrebbe suonato assai meglio!!!!
