Thanks for this! I have seen it already on RUclips. I have watched that great closer over and over again. I marched in 75 and 76 with Guardsmen from Illinois. Really strict rules then. It was taking me time to get used to the modern performance with microphones, keyboards and amps, and more props, but THIS show got me hooked on the new ways. I do love all who march corps past and present. My corps folded many years ago😢. I adopted Phantom Regiment as my favorite, but love Bluecoats too. Thanks again for your post and comments😊
The note bend was not done with the horn line. They played a chord and then the synthesizer came in while the horn line took the horns away from their face and bent then note down then the hornline came back in on the new chord and matched that chord then the same on the bend up. It was all the synthesizer. The hornline did an excellent job matching and blending with the synthesizer.
Amazing. The difficulty of the music is crazy without moving. Such inventive use of sound. Even stereo effects. I assume the boos, were actually BLUE. (have any of these groups done Zappa?)
@@Phicksusmc Here's a list of Zappa done by corps....not a lot of charts. A Tribute to Frank Zappa (1994 L'Insolite ...not sure what charts, but it reads like the entire show selection) Echidna's Arf (Of You) (1987 Blue Devils....this was the percussion feature) Idiot Bastard Son (1979 West Coast Express) Peaches and Regalia (1983 Steel City Ambassadors and 1972 Norwood Park Imperials) Zomby Woof (2017 Bluecoats)
That was really a lot of fun. I think part of the band was bending the notes while the other part of the band was doing the physical bending with their bodies. These kids sounded excellent. They did win the Gold Medal, their 16th. 🥁🥁🎺🎺📣📣
blue devils won* with a nearly perfect score. this show in this video got 2nd, amazing show none the less. bluecoats went on to win their first gold in 2016
The pitch bend was recording...the corps DID play it FOR that recording, but the effect was a taped playback. And Bloo did not win with this show....they would not win until 2 years later. In any OTHER year this probably WOULD have won, tho. 2016 was their ONLY championship. Now Blue Devils....in 2022 they DID take their 20th championship.
I know you didn't say anything about it--but don't worry the crowd is NOT booing them. They are yelling "BLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"....it's a drum corps tradition.

Go to a show in person, you'll be a fan for life
still waiting on that blue devils reaction!!

yeah that was pretty damn amazing. has a lot of fun watching this one.
However - The sound sample they used was an actual recording of the hornline playing a chord that they manipulated the pitch of electronically.
It was the Hornline playing over a synth bend of themselves that was prerecorded. They re-recorded it a few times throughout the season.

youre right BLOOOOO!!
Yep....the phrase is "They're not booing, they're BLOOING."
Bluecoats 2017 show was a lot of music by Thank You Scientist and they used Zomby Woof by Zappa in their closer.

Please react to 2013 Carolina crown. Arguably best show ever
They recorded the chords and the synth did the pitch bend live with the pre-recorded.

They did not win the gold. Got second. And they only have one championship and that was 2016
The pitch bend was electronic because it’s impossible otherwise
Bluecoats are pretty cool
Please react to Hebron highschool 2021 , “PENstriped”. It’s not dci but they are basically the same thing with a woodwinds section

They placed 2nd.....BD 1st.
I’m so happy you watched this show. It’s one of my favorites from the bluecoats. I think you should React to the Ohio State Marching Band
React to the Bluecoats show from this year!
The ballads source code if you will
