- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! Wubuntu is a level of fraud I thought would have been taken down by the time this was uploaded. As someone who preaches Linux, software like this literally does nothing but draw negative attention and potentially puts people at risk. Wubuntu is but one of many dodgy distros and should be avoided. Thanks for watching!

For my daily needs I only need to run a web browser, play audio, casually play some games, edit text documents and draw some shitty rectangles.
Can you do this on Linux? Yes, mostly out of the box. You will need to install Steam and an art program of choice.
Can you do this on Windows? Yes, mostly out of the box. You will need to install Steam and an art program of choice.
But on Windows you can't just get comfy and use what you need to use. The very first thing it does, is trying to get you to create a Microsoft account, and buy the Office Suite. I don't want an account or pay for an office suite. I want the most basic functionality. No, I don't want Cortana, I know what I need. Thanks for the audio player, I guess, but I prefer VLC. Oh, I can't get rid of the Windows media player. Guess I have 2 of them now, but one the system "recommends". I don't want to update, I have everything I need set up just fine. Oh, it forces the update on me. It just installed "3D paint" as well. Why is Teams booting up by default again, I thought I disabled that. Why is AI.exe making my fans make this noise? I just want to type in some funny numbers and edit my shitty rectangles.
Now Mint is my daily driver. Once you learn "I actually get say in what my system is doing, and I should not have to conform to a specific way of doing things" it's very hard going back to big company systems. Not like there isn't Linux Mint already.
Though yes, I agree there should be distros even closer to Windows to help people transition out (remember the LTT Linux experiment, which Mutahar deeply agreed with), but if it is behind a paywall AND worse privacy, it is undeserving of attention.
Hannah Montana Linux
That's like 90% of distros tbh. There are only like 5 distros when you actually think about it: Rhel, Arch, debian, Nix, and Gentoo
So, the worst of two worlds in a single distro:
- Close source (unless they release the source code later on)
- Not having the degree of compatibility with Windows applications (Wine has been improving over the years, still not close to deal with the likes of Visual Studio and other Windows API reliant programs).
But why.
I think they might also be potentially violating the GPL, by not even providing the source of the kernel.
BTW, about wine, I was recently in the same group as "Wine is okay but it won't run many programs I need". But recently I had the opportunity to setup wine properly and I was amazed beyond words. The things it ran, I was betting on it not running and it f**king ran.
I tried out some Music Production DAW, but I was worried about the latency, then comes WineASIO. Boom, 0 latency.
I tried out games, but I was worried about performance losses, then comes Proton. Boom 140 FPS. (almost 95-99% performance of the windows counterparts)
I tried out online games, but I was worried about the anti-cheat, then comes Fortnite. Boom, BANNED. (Yeah, don't play online games on wine)

@jayyh_01 Linux mint is probably the best choice for you, very user-friendly, easy to maintain and with a good software selection
@@jayyh_01Don't be afraid to do some distro hopping. Most distros are distributed as live images. You can boot those and have a look. The benefit is that your system won't be touched. If you have a machine at hand which is not your daily driver, then its a very nice opportunity to use that to do some installs. You can play with it without having to worry about backups. Virtual machines are also an option.
As for distro's, there are many. I would start with one of the main stream ones. Mint is indeed very good. But you are the only person who can truly decide which is best. Its all about personal preference.
The best advice I can give you is to look at which desktop environment you like best. That's what you will be using every day. KDE Plasma is the swiss army knive, default its very nice already but you can tweak just about everything, Gnome is also very popular. And there are more light weight alternatives. Worth considering.
Second piece of advice: try to find open source alternatives for the software you use most. If its open source, those applications can most likely be installed directly from the software center. No need to go to websites to download installers.

Only issue is with multiplayer games because of anticheat.
Iamus is right, most windows games do ship for Linux as well because it really isn't that hard to recompile for Linux. The only distros that don't follow this are source only distros, which you should never use as a normal user. However Linux is currently undergoing a big change in graphics so I'd give it a year or two for Wayland to be more mature, and maybe take a good look at the pros and cons if you plan on using an NVIDIA graphics card (Linus Torvalds has a famous quote because of this reoccurring issue with NVIDIA, however it's not a complete reject though, I use proprietary NVIDIA drivers and am fine with the issues it presents).

Hey Muta, legit asking this but what handgun do you have shown in the background next to the laptop? I love the two tone look ❤
2:18 Gonna have to stop you right there Muta. What you're refering to as "Linux plus GNU", is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

I heavily doubt Linus is taking over windows on desktop anytime soon. Last time I tried to set up Linux, it coudn´t utilize my hardware correctly because of something something kernel and something something AMD, so I went back to windows as main system. 🤷♀
All software is free if who made it does not make money with it, same as all software is paid if who made it is charging money for it, you make no sense with couple of your arguments.
Saying don't use a skin of windows or mac, just use the original is just stupid, is one of the things Linux people talk about, I can make my OS look the way I want it to, not the way the devs say it has to look like.
Also, using a real windows or a real mac is nothing like using a Linux with a skin, you said it yourself. For mac, you need a mac pc, for windows, specially Windows 11 you need a pc that can run it. This distro will run in almost anything, from what I know from Linux. So you talking good about Linux when it is convenient, and then you talk bad about Linux when is convenient to. I don't get it.
Even windows which is a paid OS you can use it for free if you know what you are doing, same like this distro.
And the security part, it is just nonsense in my opinion, cause when you make a login with Microsoft, you connect to Microsoft API, same as google or whatever company you talk about. The security problem has nothing to do with the OS, but with people reading where they are connecting to. I can make you a website called "mygoogle.something" or "abc.something" and when you open it you have the exact same visual as a Google login. If you put your info there, it is your mistake, not the OS. The problem is that there are no regulations about that. No 'internet police' to see that it is a scam and shut it down. And the problem is that people pay attention to what they are doing. They prefer the easy way. I type this on Google and I click the first link, instead of really typing the real address to be sure they are in the real thing.
The people who made the skin just don't want to waste their time for free, they made it paid to pay for their lost time, same like Windows make is software paid to pay the devs they hire.
we need to discuss mutahar's canada dry addiction...
