The third generation MINI Countryman serves up an even trendier confection for youthfully-minded customers in the lower-mid-sized SUV segment. There's a divisive look, a completely redesigned and more practical cabin and full-electric drivetrains for those wanting them. It's all about as far from the original wood-panelled middle-class '60s Countryman estate as you could imagine.
Want a family-sized MINI? Then you probably want this one, the Countryman, considered here in its third generation form. It’s the biggest car the company’s ever made.
There’s something rather contradictory about the idea of a large, family-sized MINI. Yet apparently, something quite appealing too. The first time this BMW brand introduced such a thing - with the first generation R60 version of this Countryman launched back in 2010 - well over half a million models were eventually sold. Which was impressive, given that original design’s somewhat muddled remit. To begin with, it was merely a MINI for folk who wanted sensible standards of space, but as the years progressed, the Countryman’s positioning was subtly altered to suit the segment where the sales were - that for compact Crossovers.

    Thorough, informative review overall.
I am loving my 3-week old Countryman S here in the US. I had an old 1964 MINI in London in the mid 1980s which was great for running about town. I never was tempted to buy another MINI until this new model, mainly because of the limited space, low driving position (I’m 6’4”) and lack of safely features. Thankfully, the latest MINI models have finally got such “modern” conveniences as blind spot monitoring. The central infotainment screen, although beautiful, takes a bit of getting used to but I’m using voice commands more and more, e.g. Hey MINi - set temperature to ….” So then I don’t have to use the touchscreen while in motion. I was drawn to this car not just by the practicalities, but equally by the quirky and uniquely MINI design features. I think they have done a fantastic job of meeting modern demands for more space and safety tech, while keeping the fun factor in a larger vehicle. The English reviewer seems to be in the “It’s too big to be a MINI” camp.

01:53 - Poor attention to detail; they should have pictured the Juke and Qashqai models from 2014 and not 2024 to keep it relevant to the point being raised about Mk2 Countryman. Mini doesn't compete with Nissan class of vehicle either.
