Hey…. thank you for this video! It convinced me to add op xy to my gear. Surrounded this great device since couple of weeks. Now it came to an (positive) end. Thank bro and do more videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👋🏻
Dipping few strings into reverb into reverb is not ambient. This is! Beautiful space, scapes, and melodies. OP-XY executes great too. Instant pleasures ❤
This is the best walkthrough of creating music on the XY that I've seen. Really great job! I would love to see you create a more energetic/abrasive track as well, I know this thing is capable of some wild sounds. haha
Great tutorial bud. Please do more tutorials on the xy. I have owned an op1 for quite some time and the xy looks to have a completely different workflow!
Well that was chilled! I have to admit, I came at this thing totally negative; I don't like sequencers, the price, the overdesigned UI, the price, the lack of longform recording, the price, etc...but it really is impressing me a LOT. And I'm loving the hate it is inspiring from people who've never even tried a TE product, as that was me until I tried one ;)
@@Shimmery.mp3 Can't wait tbh. I do blame you for making such good in depth videos of the device tho. Doesn't help that the music you create is so fantastic. Super inspiring stuff man and you make it seem effortless.
Thank you :) I havn't really. I'm facing a bit of a imposter syndrome when it comes to releasing stuff. Easier to make social media posts hehe. But I hope to make a release soon. Got loads of stuff laying around
Thank you for your very informative videos! One thing that I haven't been able to find an answer to - in the OP-Z there is the option to 'nudge' or rotate all the notes in a track left or right, by using the track select button together with + and -. Have you found anything equivalent in the OP-XY? I can only find a way to nudge individual trigs.
Thank you for your kind words! ❤️ no i havn’t unfortunatley. Just the individual trigs as you said. There’s a lot of stuff from the Z that is not implemented yet so i guess we’ll get it soon enough
long and slow sequences like this perfectly illustrate why we need an adjustable count in with playback of the music that comes before the 1. could you workaround right now by starting sequence playback from lets say the second half of the last bar?
If you use the arpeggiator on a track and record it - the notes recorded are just the once you actually play. I’m not sure how it behaves if you send midi
I appreciate your videos on the xy. one request for future vids, tho. I know this composition is very common, but I'd rather have the xy fill more of the screen . this way itw eqsier to follow what your hands are doing and the screen gets sharper. right now its hard to read.
man i dont know if someone told you before but your video are way too bright 😅 btw thank for the content I appreciate a lot, I will get my op xy in 3 days😄😄 cant wait for it
it's not really an easy way. Unless you like sample line for line and then chop it. Still gonna eat up a lot of tracks. Better do that on OP-1f and sync them.
yes, i thought of a OP1 field, but i bet it would work just as well with my 1010music BlackBox, be nice not to have to do any of that. the average pop song is like 200 seconds, vocals usually don't occupy all that time, and many phrases are repeated. 17 seconds multiplied over 24 keys is over 400 seconds in one sample engine set/pack. Yes, you'd have to break the lyrics up in less than 20 second takes, but i could see myself doing this to arrange and test out vocal melodies and harmonies on a project. I also learned from one of your other videos that it appears to allow you to change sound engines and their settings from one pattern to the next on a single track. Can you change the sample set on the sample engine between two patterns and consequently between different scenes? i wonder if the unit could handle it. Either way, it looks like the OP-XY may be capable of doing vocals, albeit in a slightly cumbersome way. the big question is, can you sing:)
My OP-XY's ETA is this Monday, so I'll be able to answer my own questions soon enough., but... I'm also curious about the chord features. I'd love a device such as this with a "player" that put diatonic and most common chords on the left 12 keys and customizable/chromatic chords on the right. The ability to hold a chord-key (or step!) and spin encoders to thumb through and set flavors, octaves, note spread, and inversions. Also be able to change the systems tonic per step. Another feature I could see being useful is a euclidean sequencer for any instrument/engine. That would allow quick polyrythems for melodies, chords, and drums/percussion elements. In addition, a way to trigger the unit to start a count-off to track vocals and live instruments. I bet these are all possible firmware upgrades.
Thank you! Glad you like it :) haha that freakin WB is driving me nuts! I film with an iPhone and i can’t lock the WB on the standard Camera app(i don’t think). Have had mixed results with other camera apps (errors in the middle of shooting etc.) so I’ve just stuck with the iOS standard one for now. I am looking into it tho ❤️🙏 thanks for the feedback!
Seems like my comments with links are just blocked, but you can lock white balance on the stock iPhone camera app. Go to Settings > Camera > Record Video, then turn on Lock White Balance
@@Shimmery.mp3 No biggie, got my XY today, so hard at work trying to figure the thing out now. Such a fascinating device, and looking forward to your future videos without WB-glitches :D
I usually don’t use a metronome but i felt like adding a beat to this one so wanted to stay in time. Its also a better showcase of the sequencer that you can make ambient music with a step sequencer. I know tho that the metronome was a bit loud and i had it on for a bit too long. Next time I’ll do better :)
is there a step component that says "only play when the previous step was played"? I enjoyed the elektron way of trigger probability a lot - this way you could add a whole phrase thats being played at random, but keep all the notew of the phrase
I never liked this company and thought this is another overpriced crap but..... I am willing to admit that I am looking forward to hearing some more music that you make using it. That was very nice to listen to.
...peasant money. I made billions of selling weapons to warlords. I bought a pallet of OP XY and use them exclusively to level the feet of wobbly 17th century furniture.
This may be the most amazing thing I have seen. This ambient artist is the most inspiring chap I have ever seen. He is so talented. Can we talk about the device? It’s the most amazing piece of gear I have ever seen. I like slow BPMS. I love to eat salad with seed oil dressing. Teenage Engineering has changed the game with this. Toon tunes 🔥

long and slow sequences like this perfectly illustrate why we need an adjustable count in with playback of the music that comes before the 1. could you workaround right now by starting sequence playback from lets say the second half of the last bar?
I would like to see how you can slow a sample down to maybe halftime while other tracks play regular time.
do you mean halftime like the pitch of the sound also changes or just the tempo of that track?
can th qrpeggiqtor be recorded/sequenced? or will a recording using the arpeggiqtor just be like you playing in the notes?
If you use the arpeggiator on a track and record it - the notes recorded are just the once you actually play. I’m not sure how it behaves if you send midi
