  • After a 16 year old was life flighted to the hospital after getting hit on her bike, I had to start raising my voice/concerns. I went to a local city council meeting, then was asked to provide comment for Fox13 Utah's news broadcast. I filmed the whole interview, and included it at the end of this video.
    0:00-1:17 - Intro
1:18- 3:36 - Public Comment at City Council
    3:37-4:36 describing the problem
    4:37-8:03 - News Broadcast
    8:04-12:52 - Extended Interview w/ Fox 13

As a motorcyclist for the last 46 years, the number one thing said after a crash with a motorcycle are these four little words, "I didn't see you." They didn't see me because they weren't LOOKING for me. Since there are more cars and trucks out there, drivers are keying on those, and not taking the time to look for smaller vehicles, which includes bicycles. Knowing all that, I make sure I ride using "situational awareness". Do NOT expect that drivers see you, and ride accordingly, or in this case, cross accordingly. Yes, the drivers should yield to anyone in the crosswalk, while crossing with an illuminated walk signal. Yes, it would be safer to walk the bike across the crosswalk. If anything, it could give the drivers time to see some crossing. If you can't resist riding the bike, be aware that others may not see you in time.

The law needs to be made stricter for car drivers

Driving in this country is so bad. Something needs to change in a major way. Prioritize multi modal transportation and hold drivers accountable.

Nothing will change until the Automobile Drivers are Cited and Held Accountable for the Harm they have Inflicted on the Pedestrians and Cyclists that they have struck.
You can attempt to Improve the Infrastructure, but the Greater Challenge is to Educate the Operator of Any Vehicle that They have been Granted a Privilege and not a Right. That the Price of that Privilege SHOULD BE Accountability on a Criminal Level in the Event that They caused Injuries or Death while Operating on Public Roadways.
Good Luck and Godspeed in Your Mission,

It's the people driving there cars they don't care and they think they have right of way. The car drivers should be arrested and throwed in jail. The drivers are responsible they need slow down for cyclelist there's no excuse. Damn car drivers think they own the road.
