☕️ Black Coffee: underrated or overrated?!
Overrated!
You should really try Harlan+ Holden Coffee when you are back in Manila✨ they have branches in BGC and Rockwell. BEST COFFEE IN MANILA ISTG😭 Get the Butterscoth Latte
Is it the same as barako coffee? I love drinking that esp when vacationing in baguio since it's really cold there
Defiantly underrated. I drink it every morning! ☕️
It’s delicious once you’ve weeded yourself off the milk and sugar 😃
The fewer ingredients you have in something, the more important it is that the ingredients are high quality and properly prepared!
So true
I used to be a sweet latte guy, but then had a similar experience with cold brews. Over time I got less and less sweet foam, so I got accustomed to the cold brew taste. They’re just so smooth and don’t feel as hateful as black espresso.
Heheh I like how you described it. Black espresso really does taste like HATE. Cold brews are sooo mellow. Works with teas that are susceptible to bitterness too! It's the hot water that awakens bitter compounds so brewing in cold water circumvents that!
I'm the same way, cold brew isn't as acidic so it oddly doesn't taste that bitter. It makes it much easier to drink on it's own.
@@happybunnyntx Yeah, I much prefer the taste of cold brews than black coffees, but ironically cold brews have cleansed my palette to the point where I enjoy a simple black coffee. Obviously I have a preference for the smoothness of cold brew, but it’s interesting how it prepared me for other “black” drinks
'Hateful as the espresso', Lmao that's a hilarious description
hateful is the right description for espresso hahaha
Coffee if brewed right doesn't have those bad taste qualities (burnt, sour, bitter, astringent, pungent). What makes it addicting is the taste notes that hit when you sip and that lingering after taste that goes on for minutes even hours.
Christ loves you beyond comprehension, turn to him
Black coffee is the best fr, lactose intolerance had an effect on me. 🗿🗿
Exactly! Since most of the coffee shops here don't have plant milk options.
Oat milk is superior anyways
@@Lemonminer yes
same
Ok but sugar
One can only appreciate black coffee if it's done right. The quality of coffee beans, brewing techniques are very important. Even black coffee drinkers would not drink badly prepared ones.
Thank you. Was looking for this.
I just pour hot water through a filled coffee filter and it tastes amazing honestly. I get the cheapest, strongest coffee powder and use a lot, so the coffee tastes rich and not too bitter.
I mean, its just coffee. Most people drink coffee black. Its not something unusual.
A teeny sprinkle of salt in your grounds while you brew it helps take the bitter edge off coffee too!
Cool tip. I use Peets coffee and usually it doesn't taste burnt or bitter. But I'm interested to try this
If you do have burnt tasting or bitter coffee a little salt helps mellow it out. Takes some of the bitterness away.
Cool tip
or get it from somewhere other than starbucks. Their coffee is disgusting because the beans are burnt every time.
@stephen ridder Yeah not good coffee. Peets and intellingentsia are my favs
I like brown sugar and heavy cream in my coffee 🤷♀️ I don't drink any sodas or juice so I don't mind indulging in a cup of sweet coffee a few times a week.
been drinking black coffee since i was 10/11.
my parents used to force me to drink it with milk but i hated it so i drank it before they got to the kitchen in the morning and haven’t stopped since then, i am now 23 😆 i drink it entirely free of cream, milk or sugar
Lol why yo parents trying to get you to do it with milk
@@KenkadeLindenI'm almost 15 and they hate me having it black lmao
Black coffee makes me feel like I’m ready for the day, lattes make me wanna sleep.
bruh my dumb self rlly though she meant to remove it while you drink it 💀
Me too
SAME💀💀💀
😂😂😂😂

I made that flip when I tried cold brew. I used to be a 10% coffee 90% creamer and sugar girl. Now I'm a cold brew on ice with a splash of vanilla syrup. I can't even go back now. WAAAAY too sweet.
One of the ways for me is to treat it like dark chocolate. Let it slowly enter your mouth (slurp for extra flavors if you're alone), let it sit there for at least three seconds and slowly swallow not all but in small amounts. That feels insanely extra but doing that and variants of that helps to really appreciate the flavor compared to if i just swallowed it instantly my mouth would die. Also could try light-roast if you don't like that bitterness to it
I got into black coffees through iced black Americanos because ommmg espressos flavour is fricking magnificent when there's a bit of ice and water to dilute, it has these notes that u can't enjoy when u drink it with sugar or dairy. That's not to say I don't enjoy it with those things as well but seriously trying black iced Americanos is what altered my brain chemistry and did it for me so I'm now able to enjoy coffee black
Started because I got interested in making coffee! From the kind of roast you do, where the beans come from, how fresh they are, how precisely you brew, freshly grinding the beans... the ritual of it became really soothing!
Milk, creamer, and sugar easily mask poorly made coffee, so I started drinking it black to see how I was doing and what "notes" I could taste bean to bean. It has been a fun hobby!
I still drink dark roast and condensed milk in Vietnamese Coffee, but these days I always drink light and medium roasts black.
Black coffee ☕️ is pretty amazing 👏 😍
I used to drink black coffee more religiously until I got food poisoning one day (not from the coffee) and I was drinking black coffee that day. I was so traumatized by the experience that I couldn't stand the smell of black coffee cuz it always made me nauseous. So I started drinking it w/ cream and sugar again until I started drinking cold brew out of habit. Now I'm pretty much stuck on cold brew for a while until I can drink hot black coffee again.
I had the same experience with frozen chicken parm. The smell alone makes me nauseous. Still dont want any 1 year later.
I've loved plain black coffee since I was a child. Bitter is amongst my favorite tastes.
There is two kinds of bitterness, the first enjoyable and tolerable then there is the other kind which is inedible.
I started drinking watered down black coffee with my dad in the mornings before elementary school, and we would watch cartoons 🥰
My coffee journey also started with Starbucks Frappuccino’s! And I basically did the same thing that the teacher here did - it went down to macchiato’s with syrup in them, cappuccino’s - and now I’ve reached the point where I can’t wait to treat myself to an espresso halfway through my morning!
If you don't like the bitterness, look into lighter coffee roasts. I generally prefer them because they taste less burnt and more like the descriptors
Idk how others can hate on long discussions in reactions. It just shows how genuinely interested they are in these artists. In this platform full of fake reactors who are only after the clout and don’t offer input, these guys are a gem. Keep being you guys and you’ll surely attract viewers who will appreciate you.❤️🔥
one thing i've been doing this past month, that works extremely well even on a cheap coarsely grounded instant coffee that i actually hated, was to splash a bit of cold water enough to cover the grounds and stir for awhile.
once it looks like it's fully mixed in all together, i add the hot water. it actually smells more wonderful and far less bitter, with some hints of dark chocolate to the aroma, something i never smelled off this brand before.
while i still take mine with sweetened condensed milk, it clearly tastes a whole lot less bitter this way. i'm actually tempted to try it black to give it a try.
This is interesting. I started on black coffee 😮 so I didn’t try the sweetened stuff till later on, and found myself not liking it as much as black coffee. It’s funny how stuff like that works
completely agree with this as a coffee drinker myself
I've always loved black coffee, that's how my grandmother always had hers and I would take sips from her cup all the time as a kid.
me personally, the first time i tried it black i just loved it. when i get coffee from shops i dont usually get it black, but when i make it its always black coffee
Black coffee is pure. You can taste every nuance in the bean. To me it changes by the day. I am constantly surprised by what my palate can discern with different beans or temperature as the coffee cools. A latte is good once in a while but black coffee is what I want for a coffee experience...
Try some of your local small coffee spots.
Well made high quality coffee has so many possible tastes to try. If you still don't enjoy the taste there's nothing wrong with adding milk/sugar or w.e. The only reason to drink it black is that a good coffee you enjoy won't gain anything from additives.
W.e.?
i have black coffee with jam toast and that helps cut the bitterness :) also i drank black tea before, so that kind of prepared me for the bitterness
I just straight up had black coffee without the gradual change. I guess it can depend on the person if gradual change would work best or not.
If you add a pinch of salt to coffee it makes it taste a little bit less bitter and more smooth
I went straight to cold brew black. It was hot coffee in general I couldn't stand without a bunch of stuff added to make it palatable to me.
I didn't want to have another sugary thing in my diet, especially drinkable calories and tried cold brew black on a whim.
No more hot coffee when I have coffee.
My dad just one day started giving me black coffee without the milk and now I just prefer it
I am one of those folks that uses coffee as a sedative (it works on adhd, trust me!) and I never thought I’d find a black coffee I enjoyed. Well, I found a cafecito in the Florida keys that blew my mind!!! So smooth, with a slight bitter twang at the end. Not overpowering at all. Years later I finally found a coffee joint that has beautiful roasts and a coffee lady that makes a mean black coffee. ❤sometimes just gotta keep looking.
i started with the most difficult task : brew it cold with ice cubes. now the problem is, getting the right ratio is hard and when you find the perfect recipe, its so satisfying. i learned two methods of how to make it. first one is cold brew. good for robusta beans and you can serve it with little bit of sugar (10gram). another method i use to brew is japanese iced drip. good for arabica beans with acidity and sweetness. if you do it right you don't even need sugar at all and the taste is rich and balanced between sweet, sour, and bitter. i'm speaking as barista not customer perspective.
I've been drinking strong black coffee since I was 5yrs old. now I've moved onto several shots of espresso as my go to.
Very easy with espresso based drinks:
• Lattes + Syrup
• Lattes
• Cappuccinos / Flat Whites
• Cortados
• Macchiatos
• Espresso or Americano
Tbh, i didnt even gradually remove anything. I just thought id try it once and now i cant go back. Turkish coffee is the best ive tried so far. Sadly i dont have the equipment to make any other coffee than from a kettle but im sure ill be able to make my own high quality coffee someday.
I never really learnt how to drink black coffee, it was just something I did haha, ever since I can remember my mother used to have a cup every morning before I had school and she had work, and then when I got into my early teens I just started drinking it too, now I’m 21 and that’s all I usually drink. A latte once in a while isn’t bad, but usually without sugar.
Me who started with it and will prefer it over any coffee
I learnt to drink Lebanese black coffee with no sugar because everytime I go to someone's house that's what I'm offered and I get compliments for drinking it without sugar since apparently all young people love sugar
I love both black and beverage creations equally. My go to cafe order is a double shot espresso and then a small latte (usually a seasonal flavor). That way I taste the espresso in both settings
I love black coffee with or without sugar.
Really good coffee makes all the difference. I have a local roaster that makes my favorite espresso. It’s got such good flavor it needs no additions.
i've been drinking plain espresso for a while. I think it's just an acquired taste unless you progress to it.
I was known for stealing my uncle's watered-down iced coffee at the age of 5 and have loved coffee ever since. My current favorite coffee has to be Vietnamese coffee (preferably iced because I like cold drinks) because of the bitter taste. I want to try black coffee in the future though!
Just recently discovered Vietnamese coffee exists but I haven't tried it. I just have a question, if you add condensed milk, why is it still so strong?
A frappuccino without sugar whip or milk is just frappuccino roast (which is instant coffee) and ice
The only kind of coffee I like to drink is a doppio...which is a double espresso, black. I've always thought it was delicious but I love bitter tasting things so it's wonderful to me.
One thing that helped me a lot was figuring out to use my mouth. I was using the wrong hole for months before a friend showed me to use my mouth.
wtafdym
@@Jenify_ I was stupidly using "the other hole" if you know what I mean for while and my friend had taken me out to Starbucks. We got our drinks, we're about to sit down, I take out my tube and start pulling my pants down and my friend is like "WTF! What are you doing?!?" and I explained to him that I was getting ready for my drink and he explained to me that you can just drink it normally with your mouth like any drink.
i used to drink espresso shots directly with a bit of sugar
Milk and sugar are added to coffee to hide the bitterness of a low quality coffee or badly extracted coffee
That is one reason but not the whole reason another reason coffee tastes bitter is that it clearly has bitter chemical in it only some people are genetically evolved to taste that particular bitterness in the coffee a lot of us will never able to.
I love black coffee
I “learned” to drink it black when I realized regular milk messed up my tummy back in like 2011. I’d chose soy milk at Starbucks (cause back then that was the ONLY option) and was able to enjoy coffee from there freely but all the other places didn’t offer lactose free options. And since I was working and going to school I needed caffeine so I just drank it black for the caffeine, I never liked it cause it tasted sour to me. Thank goodness for the rise in pant based milk. And I rejoiced when Dunkin made almond milk an option some years later 😊
Black coffee is the best ❤
I've been drinking black coffee since I was like 15-16. My parents always loved coffee and my Dad has always drank it black so I tried it and just slowly got used to it. Now the only time I don't like black coffee is if it taste brunt like McDonald's
I use a French press at home with like medium quality beans. Love how rich it comes out of the French press
It was similar for me, my dad drinks a cup of black coffee every morning, and accompanies it with cookies or toast with marmalade to balance it out. I spent a month of vacation with him when I was like 16 and just got used to drinking it with him, I never really liked coffee with sugar before that though, so I guess I was always gonna like it.
I started drinking arabic sweet coffee when I was 13 or 14, every eid when we visited family i wanted to proof that I was real coffee drinker and so I would drink black coffee, I didn't like black coffee! But I got used to it and now I drink black coffee once a week when I visit my grandma
Cold brew is the way to go. It's so much more smoother than plain black coffee and personally is nicer on my stomach.
The best way to enjoy black coffee is to reduce the coffee grinds. I made super strong coffee which I compensated with sugar and cream. The only way I could enjoy the same coffee was to add more water. Or reduce the Amt of coffee. I used to make americano double shot. I went with a single and was much easier to drink. Then just repeat.
I used to not drink coffee at all and only drank tea. But when i was in secondary school, i always felt so sleepy during classes and so i tried drinking coffee one day. Fyi, it was black coffee. I never really thought it was bitter but i thought it was pretty acidic cuz every time i drank it, I'll get a stomachache 😂 Well it helps with digestion honestly so that wasn't a biggie. But then i did try to drink coffee with sugar and it tasted so weird to me. I really have no idea why but i thought that coffee mixed with sugar tasted horrible. I then tried it with creamer and i liked it a bit more but still I'd drink it without adding anything cuz i got used to the taste. And that's how i accidentally got into black coffee 😂😂
Did it help with the sleepiness?
I actually did this with my iced tea, I used to drink sweetened raspberry black tea but I gradually weened myself off it and now I love my unsweetened iced raspberry black tea
A good coffee machine changed my family's whole coffee drinking experience.
I've been drinking black coffee but with sugar since I was around 11. I only started drinking pure black coffee around last year (I was 20 then) and it was surprisingly easy for me. Partly because I have been cutting sugar from my tea in an effort to reduce my sugar intake. So my taste buds were sort of accustomed to the bitterness by then. I still like my latte and all but I usually go for black coffee when trying a new roast to get a better grasp on the flavor profile of that particular roast.
The fact that you started to drink coffee as a CHILD is horrible.
As a barista I think cutting it with cream is totally fine, the only time I'd say drinking it black is essential or worthwhile is when it's a high quality or single origin coffee bean brewed and roasted by professionals.
I learned to drink black coffee (iced Americano) since its the go to Starbucks drink my favorite singer liked 😂
Or evry kpop actor in a drama 🤣
I just hate coffe lol. Got enough bitterness in me already, no need for coffee
I drink black coffee, but I still prefer it with milk also :) it was a lot easier for me because I've never liked sweetened coffee, milk is the perfect amount of sweetness for me
I actually use coffee tea bags to make my black coffee and I love the smell of the grounds... when it's brewed it's great with milk, but still good black too. i like to leave the bag in for like 30mins cuz otherwise it's too weak, it doesn't get too bitter either! ^^
the way I got used to it was just by uh drinking it lol... it does taste like dirt the first 1 or 2 days, but I get used to it and then it tastes fine, plus caffeine makes me feel really good so i mostly drink it for that lol
Currently im working my way to getting a taste for black coffee!! Rn my favorite coffee drink is a nitro cold brew with only a little splash of sweet cream! I havent had any high quality black coffee before so now i wanna try it 👀
I can't drink coffee at all, I don't really mind the taste but my stomach will punish me
I started drinking black coffee when I was 16 and working 0600-1400 at McDonald’s. Every morning at 0630 this man in a truck and his truck would order a large black coffee. No lie , the man was gorgeous. He looked like he had his life together in his mid 40’s. He told me about the benefits of black coffee and I was sold..
I like black coffee or really dark with no sugar or 1 sugar. I was recently advised against it though due to the acidity and had no idea that’s why people use milk in coffee.
I enjoy the taste of coffee alone doesnt like milk in it if i want milk i will drink it seperately lol but black coffee is my fuel in the morning after my morning devotion because i have a lot of things to accomplish
I've loved black coffee since I was about 10. But I drink it both ways now. Sometimes black sometimes with soymilk
i used to chug a few shots of espresso every morning throughout middle school and this is how i can drink black coffee or espresso shots. i chug them like medicine, mainly it's for the caffeine intake though cuz im constantly tired all the time lol.
As a kid who likes sugar a lot but likes black coffee already I see this as a absolute win
Most people I know and meet who said they can't stomach black coffee if you ask them if they ever actually tried it they'll say no they've never had any coffee that's never had any cream in it
It’s either black coffee or espresso; anything else is just a sugary drink that you shouldn’t even call coffee.
I took out the milk first because at uni I was sick of having to buy milk regularly. These days I drink black filter coffee with sweetener at work, but I still drink coffee with milk and sweetener at home, and my coffee shop order is almost always a vanilla latte 😆 I can drink completely black coffee if the coffee is good, but I tend not to unless I'm really desperate for caffeine
Black coffee is pure, flavorful and delicious. I could never add creamer
As a Hispanic that is disgusting black coffee is gross
Milk in it all the way
I started drinking black coffee since I was ten years old (it's not a good habit)so I don't have problems with it being bitter since I'm used to it
The only kind I have ever drank.Once in awhile I will put cream and sugar but not that often😀
Well i drink black coffee , without sugar nor milk nd i think it tastes really good , just don't get addicted to it ♡
I like black coffee bc it's a great diuretic. Having it with milk made me feel bloated & gave me stomachaches, so learning to drink it black made me feel better about myself overall.
When I was 14 it was 4 cups of black steaming coffee when I woke up ☕️
Really why was it a mission for her to get to the black coffee stage has she gained some super powers now 😂
Kape barrako!! I learned how to drink it when I was young since in my dad's side of family always makes it fresh in the backyard :)
That's the same way I became used to drinking black coffee. I started drinking coffee in college. Mostly cream and sugar with a splash of coffee, lol. Nowadays if I drink coffee anyway besides black, it tastes like I'm drinking a coffee milkshake.
Me who tried both and liked the black one
My aunt taught me you actually appreciate the flavor of coffee ☕️ and know what's good and bad quality
I just started drinking my black coffee right away. It's maybe because I already have a diverse pallete so I didn't have to train it like the teacher but hey whatever is necessary. Haha
I like black coffee lol
I never thought I'd be able to drink black coffee. A few months ago, on the first day my new job, they took me to meet the CEO of the company (who was my boss 😳). I was super nervous and he offered me tea or coffee. I said coffee, expecting the typical sweet milky coffee that we get in my country. Instead, a cup of black coffee arrived 💀 I was already nervous af, I definitely did not want to drink it in front of the CEO and possibly gag from the bitterness. But I took a sip to look polite and it was actually super good, not bitter and very mild. I never realized how much the type of coffee bean and roast etc makes a difference until that day. I still don't drink it regularly tho, I love my milk so much. I do substitute sugar for honey alot tho, I think it's super good that way
Im a barista and I only really drink black if it is an iced americano or a pour over. I think coffee lacks the body it needs for the flavour it has.. Tea is fine because it should be light and floral, but coffee is more deep and developed and I think black coffee is often too watery
a high quality espresso is delicious
I never knew people used creamers I thought everyone drank it black. Now I drink black. Basic latte if I’m feeling sweet.
Most coffee they sell is bad. Good coffee tastes good.
Cold brew is less bitter than coffee brewed with other methods, but the real trick is to add a pinch of salt to your black coffee. It decreases its acidity.
Black coffee is really great but a bit of milk is always good to protect your stomach lining and your teeth.
starbucks has some of the worst coffee i’ve ever had, i’m so glad she tried it w nice espresso ❤️
i literally just made the switch only cause i felt like it 💀 i went straight for the black coffee and yeah it was odd at first but over time you get used to it
