I’ve been put at ease from this video. Glad to know the Orca isn’t a direct upgrade over the Covetor II. I wasn’t planning on switching and I’m glad I won’t lose out because of it. The Rorqual will be better, but I also would not put that much into a mining ship personally. So I’m not going to be upset about it doing better at mining than my Covetor II.
My plan is of course fleets but im going to use a maxed out cov ii and core to speed fill my orca while they mine and defend and buff. Makes for 100% up time on the cov ii
Well, well well. The Orca has turned out to be more interesting than I anticipated, by _not_ surpassing the Covetor II in each and every way. Surprisingly subtle implementation by Netease. As a fair weather miner, I'll probably never mine in one but I'm relieved it doesn't look like they'll crash the market after all
When I first started to fly the orca ... didn't much like it except for group mining. Now , since I'm fully trained and implemented a core on it..... wow!! This beast will mine a full load in 30 min.... +/- a few minutes. But the tank for survival is unreal. This is by far my favorite new mining ship.
Nice overview. Good to confirm mining amount calculations. Would have loved to see it in space too mining for a bit :) Just something about seeing ship in action is satisfying :) Now can't wait for Rorqual video!
Would be interested to see a real-world comparison of isk/hour to a covetor II when you factor in the roughly 4x larger ore capacity (plus cargo). Takes a bit to align and warp with a cov and the Orca can just sit there and keep mining.
Thanks for the video and good review with most of my questions answered. Just one thing to note with the drones you don’t need to get out the calculator for mining amount. It’s in the top right of the info. Just incase you didn’t know you did it on your last video as well.
Lol in drone info you can see how much it mine m³/s and now what was you told before o we dont need it but it's huge investment in sp and isk so now we w8 for nano core for orca XD
I really found this useful, a great video on Mining efficiencies as compared to the Cov2. This ship really adds a whole new dynamic to fleet mining the game really needs without it pushing the market balance too hard. Could I suggest doing a Part 2 On Combat fit-outs? Some questions to look at answering: - Is it worth adding a few weapons in the high slots or purely acting as Fleet Shield Tank - Carrying large combat drones to swap out in an Emergency - What is a good fleet size/Mix to defend against Pirates (e.g. how many Cov2s per Orca) - What Combat ships make for a good escort for a fleet? (Battleships vs Cruisers?) - Defence strategies?

idk how this could have been implemented, or maybe I'm just 100% wrong, but kind of upset that all of my mining/strip miner skills now mean nothing if I end up switching over to the Orca. Sure mining will help slightly if you fit Ion miners. Like maybe a small bonus for every expert level in strip mining?
It seems to me, that at this point, the Orca is the Lamborghini/ Ferrari (whatever exotic car you like) of mining ship. However, EO and EE is all about multiboxing or being in a fleet. Teamwork is everything. So I’m the end, with all bonuses, it’s a lot better than the covetor 2. Once the nanocores will come out, it’ll be even better. Also, now mining ops could be done more easily, since the orcas ore hold is big.
Would of been nice to see a true support fit on this, load it up with combat drones and remote reps and batteries and invuls. See what the dps/repping power is.
I got my orca last night and spent an hour and a half filling the 105,000m^3 cargo hold and 250,000m^3 ore hold and it was a lot of fun using the non strip mining drones. I had to pay attention to which rocks I wanted them to travel to but I did notice they don’t need to travel back to the ship to deposit ore.
Great video. I look forward to those Mining Circ rigs coming down in price. Bit of a random one, did you try any drone rigs like range or speed in the bottom rig slots and did they have an effect?
The mining foreman burst info is wrong. I have 2 of these on my orca running at the same time and the icon doesn't look like that ingame... I just don't see how it speeds up mining at all in an orca. still takes 12 hours or so to come close to filling up my mining ore hold 180,000.0 m3. Seems like to me, I can fill up my mackinaw with 2 modulated strip miners IIs alittle faster. Drone mining seems EXTREMELY slow compared to using mining lasers.
It's used to be so much better. You could buff a fleet for striping belt with ease and it cost zero consumables. Now it's just another isk sink eating away at your profits.
I think they just safe proofed some ship with that 90% jump reduction stat. There are alot of ships in EvE Online that have that stat aswell that simply never is gonna be able to fit a Jump warpdrive. The Venture is 1 and several Tech 1 Frigates also have it for no good reson.
Hey Captain Benzie or anyone. Can you run a mining foreman link in high sec? I was testing it out in high sec and every burst it kept playing battle music and had a weapon timer. The one saying you can’t dock or go through a star gate.
Answered all my questions but one, what's the warp time look like? Getting one once the prices become more reasonable but would be a nice bit of info to know
One thing is strange, to I look all the skills to expect you need a ridiculously amount of ISK. No idea why the new skills need to be so expensive… is like 10x the price… I’m ok that SP is high as it is sort of a high tire ship so ok. Not sure how much more SP it is compare to Coveter 2

Also, I still don't get why manual drones have less income than automatic? I know that ability to choose target are a good thing, but I also think it's mostly useless, considering how much Orca can put into it's ore hold. What's point in choice when you can simply grab everything? It would be useful if we had some special types of ore (like moon ores from EO), but we don't have anything like this. That's why I think that manual drones should have bigger income, considering that they require extra efforts to lock onto asteroids before mining, and extra time to switch lock in case of emergency. This would create choice for miners, but currently, devs promoting AFK play style with strip mining drones for Orca pilots, since manual drones worse in all aspects, which is a bad thing. I think they should change it. Tell me if there's something wrong with my thoughts

Does anybody know how to actually use the mining drones? I have 4 of the directed mining drones fitted to an Armageddon but when I lock onto an asteroid & send the drones to it, they fly over & set their lasers onto the asteroid but I get 0 yield from it. I was sat there for 10 minutes earlier & got nothing from it. Am I forgetting to do something here?
@@captainbenzie that does suck. I reckon what’s happened is that the devs programmed the drones to send all ore to the ore hold & never to the cargo hold - which will be a problem for anything that hasn’t got an ore hold
No. Mining drones are considerably worse than strip miners. Drones have abysmal mining amounts coupled with travel time. Strip miners have no need for travel time. Ore is instantly dropped in your ore hold. If you're planning on using the orca for actual mining instead of mainly boosting mining fleets, you might as well save your time and money and just use a covetor ll.
I doubt I will move to the Orca. Lucky it is not like 10x better then current one. I have all my characters on the same account and all 3 char have 5/5/4 in strip mining and 5/5/4 in all Industrial ship skills so they won’t be able to fly together in a fleet. I often play only 20 min at the time so I won’t help others either.
@@captainbenzie yes and i can do another 14,xx% over the nanocore over Time on the cov2. That’s on the base mining amount sure, but I guess it will end out at about 110-120m3 ore per second then.
@@captainbenzie could put another 6,xx% on my cov2 through the mining amount. am now at 112,77m3/sec. more is possible with the last 3 lvls of the nanocore but the price range for that is pure insane. so no thanks on that ^^
I really think the sun chaser cores are stupid. They're neat and very niche, but completely useless in null, so really no point in them in that aspect, but i guess it's cool for people who wanna mine and maybe rat in lowsec, but they'd have to use a bunch of fuel jumping about and jump drive skills don't affect the usage of sun chasers so you can't even really go very far, so again kind of useless 😿

One thing I think you forgot to mention is the size of the hold. Being able to mine 4x more without docking is a lot less downtime, and better yields

Lol. Look at the numbers with the Illusionary ghost nanocore.... outclassed the covetor2 in almost every way, just not in distance that it mines at.

Remember how the devs said drones are basically npc ships with a fitting and everything, will the foreman burst affect the strip miners on the drones?

The Orca has been around for a few years now.
Divides by activation cost of 11.23GJ as opposed to the activation time of 60seconds, where was your head at in this one...

The only mining command ship I'd get in echoes would be the porpoise. Battle Orcas are a thing in EO.

no on teh core jump drive. The more likely is they have plans to add titans and allow bridging off it or will add jump bridges

Hi is the boost applied to the base stats or does it stack - we don’t think we are getting the right bonuses- seems a little short!

Maybe it helps to get fleets together too. Currently a lot off non fleet mining. Mainly Ratter
