Hey, great video as usual. Question: would you buy this truck over the Hypergo H16BM on 3s? I love my old HBX and want to get another truck thats just as good but faster.

Man i used to have nitro rc's and your videos have inspired me to get my first electric. Im either going to get the 16890sa or the hyper go. Which do you reccommend?
I’d get this hbx over any 1/16 HyperGo. Probably still over the 1/14 scales too. These are just so durable. However if you want to go slightly bigger, check out my video on the hbx 2997a. That one has a center differential and is also built extremely well.

Thanks! It’s extremely similar to the older 16890 and the 16889a models. It’s basically the same. The rear upper control arms are different on the 16890’s than they are on the 16889’s
@@DerbyCityRC Cool. Ordered the 16889a pro (plus HBX 903 tires & 15mm wheel spacers) mainly for jumping. Your videos were very informative and helpful in my decision making. Thanks.
Where can i buy the two upper screws for the wheelie bar for the hbx? S161 dont have any at local hobby stores. Wondering if i can buy a bunch of them verse buying 6 for like 7$ On ebay?
I’m looking to buy my 8yr old his first RC, saw in the comments about not being able to limit the speed on the SA. Would you consider this a deal breaker? Trying to decide what’s the better trade-off, no speed limiter on the SA, or not being able to run 3S on the A model.
If it’s available I’d go with the 2997a which is the faster brushless version of the 2995. Did you see my vid on that? The 2995 is bigger than the 16890, but much slower. But out of the two you asked about, I’d probably go with the 16890sa unless I had plans to upgrade the 2995 later.
Could you please check if this new separated esc and receiver work with the standard brushless 2s transmittor/remote? i am planning to buy on amazon the combo new esc and receiver to upgrade my 2s pro in order to run it on 3s batteries
They don’t unfortunately. I’ve tried already and due to the old remotes having a speed knob and the new ones having a throttle trim knob instead, it did not run correctly.
@@DerbyCityRC its a shame...because on amazon they dont include the transmitter in the bundle so it is useless for me...have to find a bundle with esc, receiver and transmitter that fits the chassis and runs on 3s

Hey man, you and your videos rock! I am just about to review the HBX 16889A Pro. Is there anything that stands out that I or my audience needs to know? This thing needs to be in my garage!
I purchased a couple of 16889a pro's after watching your videos. Having a lot of fun with them. Unfortunately we stripped the spur gear (the end cog that connects to the differential). Is that a common problem? What causes that? Just ordered the SA version here - looking forward to that.
Awesome! No that’s not a common issue that I’ve ever heard of! Finally after two years I broke a couple teeth off my spur gear when I had oversized tires on it for most of its life and ran it on 3s when it happened. So who knows it most likely won’t ever happen again lol Ya that SA is a fun one too of course!
Thanks for the review! Picked up two of these a 168890A and two of the 16889A. Going to be a RC Christmas for my son, daughter, wife, dad, and I. 😆 seen you do a few 1/10 scale reviews but would like to see maybe a top 10 1/10 scale or a comparison of 1/10 vs 1/12.
I'm just getting into these.... I've watched several of your videos (over and over) trying to decide in which one I want to get So far it's this 16890SA or the 16889A Pro.... They seems pretty similar but for $20 more you get a few accessories and 3KM Any suggestions? It's my 1st and I'm planning on using it more on trails/dirt roads
To me the SA would be worth it. Better ESC, paddle tires, better looking body in my opinion. Only issue is you can’t turn a knob to slow it down. You can control it with the trigger of course but you can’t lower the top speed with a knob like you can on the “older” models like the 16889a. Hopefully that helps!
Perfect Thank you! That Throttle Knob seems to make a Huge difference and I'm sure even moreso for Newbs. Maybe I'll start w the 89A and get used to controls then go for the Newer one Lol oR.... Just go for it. More than appreciate your time Brother
Well those upgrades are pretty much all already on the 16890A and the SA so you shouldn’t need those (if I’m right on what you’re talking about) You really don’t need both of those, I’d choose one of them, the 89a, 90a or 90sa, and then for your next car get something different. Those three are all pretty similar.
So I just pick one of these up for my brother to get into rc fun but I have noticed that the brake suck on it when full throttle then I brake it take like 2 to 3 ft to stop it and most of the time I hit at wall or a object Is there a way to get it to stop fast
You may have figured it out, but you can program the esc for more brake force. Its default if 25% if i remember correctly and by upping that to 50% will make a huge difference. I changed mine after playing around with it the first time in the house as it would barely stop with very slow speeds.
Love your videos! I’ve been thinking of getting the 16889a Pro, but don’t want to go through Bangood or Ali. Is this the same, just a different body? Forgive me if I missed where you may have said it in the video. Thanks!
It’s so similar it might as well be. The rear upper control arms are different, but if you find them, you can even get the 16889a pro arms if you ever break one. I haven’t. This is probably the best of all of them due to the better esc. Only thing about it is, you can’t turn down the speed. Kind of weird and had to be an oversight but it’s stuck at full speed besides just controlling the trigger. Full throttle is full throttle.
@@DerbyCityRCThank you for the reply! I have the 18859A, which I have been enjoying. Do you know if the 16889a pro tires would work on it without hurting the motor? I really want bigger tires on it, as it will help some with ground clearance (and looks), I just don’t want to stress the motor or drivetrain. I know the motors are the same, but not sure how the 16889a pro is geared.
@kendallwilliams8135 I’m not sure if the gearing is different, but I actually put the tires from my 901a on my 18859a a long time ago and it was fine, so I’d say do it! Possible you may need some small hex extenders to keep them from rubbing the body, but maybe not. The bigger the tires the more strain on the drivetrain but these gears are tough!
I think I’ll go for it. Parts are pretty cheap, so why not, haha. I saw that video; those tires looked sweet if it’s the one you’re talking about (reinforcing the bodies). I appreciate you, sir.
@@DerbyCityRCisn’t there a speed trim thing on the transmitter? It doesn’t work? I have a kid and this is kind of a deal breaker. Could you adjust the speed on the other models? The 16889a and 16890 (2s) model?
Yes this is new. I don’t have the previous version but it wasn’t supposed to be 3s capable, though some say it works. This one is actually designed that way. Only other difference I believe is the body color. This is the 16890SA, older model was just the 16890A lol

Thanks dude!! 😃
That intro jump was bad ass
Haha, thanks!!
A bloke was walking down the street with one shoe when his old mate sees him and says "hey did you lose a shoe?"
he responds "nah mate, I found one !"
you "finding" a body clip reminded me of that joke
🤣
Man i used to have nitro rc's and your videos have inspired me to get my first electric. Im either going to get the 16890sa or the hyper go. Which do you reccommend?
I’d get this hbx over any 1/16 HyperGo. Probably still over the 1/14 scales too. These are just so durable. However if you want to go slightly bigger, check out my video on the hbx 2997a. That one has a center differential and is also built extremely well.
Get this and the 2997a or the newer Rlallo cf and will be happy with any or all imho .
Yup!!
I'm going to get one. Pretty wicked
They’re fun!!
I love how you open the box😂
Thanks 😃
Those catches👀
Gnarles like Charles!
Your videos keep getting better! When Spielberg calls, don't forget about me- I'll be your gopher!! Loved the first truck- now have to get this one‼️👍👍🦾🦾🤘🤘
Thanks for uploading such great videos! Day always gets better when a new one drops out 😊 that’s for sure a good Rc! Btw your editing skills are great! Loved the twins conversation and the high five🎉 lol
That’s great to hear! Haha ya the high five was fun. He’s a nice guy! 🤣
Great video. Nice to see it has an independent ESC and able to handle 3s. In terms of durability, how does it compare to the 16889a pro?
Can you upgrade a motor on the hbx 18859 to a brushless?
Good review!
Damn that’s an awesome little basher
Definitely is!!
Cool little ripper 🔥
Currently a $30 off coupon as well, bringing the price to $120 and $130. 2s vs 3s version 🤯
Not bad at all!!
paddles might balloon more, or in a stable way, giving the slight speed advantage
Love your vids. Would you go with this one 16890A or the 2995?
@farmoboy83 the transmitter doesn’t come with the car?
no, at least the seller doesn't show it...can you recommend a cheap quality combo (esc, receiver and trasmitter) for this 2840 motor that fits the chassis? Extremely happy on 2s but wanted to try 3s from time to time.@@DerbyCityRC
So who knows it most likely won’t ever happen again lol
Ya that SA is a fun one too of course!
The Narnian Doorway😮😂👍👍
😂😅😅 backyard to front yard 😂
Omg. They made the og better. Looks like they're bulking up to better gompeye with mjx. But damn that battery tray still makes me cry
Glad the review helped! How you guys liking them?
I have some comparison/best of videos of different sized cars, but several 1/12 and 1/10 included
I'm just getting into these.... I've watched several of your videos (over and over) trying to decide in which one I want to get
So far it's this 16890SA or the 16889A Pro.... They seems pretty similar but for $20 more you get a few accessories and 3KM
Any suggestions? It's my 1st and I'm planning on using it more on trails/dirt roads
To me the SA would be worth it. Better ESC, paddle tires, better looking body in my opinion. Only issue is you can’t turn a knob to slow it down. You can control it with the trigger of course but you can’t lower the top speed with a knob like you can on the “older” models like the 16889a. Hopefully that helps!
Perfect
Thank you! That Throttle Knob seems to make a Huge difference and I'm sure even moreso for Newbs. Maybe I'll start w the 89A and get used to controls then go for the Newer one Lol oR.... Just go for it. More than appreciate your time Brother
Sorry @DerbyCityRC... One more question. You have a video that has links to the upgrades for the 89A Pro.... Would those be appropriate for the 90??
Well those upgrades are pretty much all already on the 16890A and the SA so you shouldn’t need those (if I’m right on what you’re talking about)
You really don’t need both of those, I’d choose one of them, the 89a, 90a or 90sa, and then for your next car get something different. Those three are all pretty similar.
Thank you Brother went w the 90A Should be here tmro
Hi, which of these are the better rc truck?
hbx 16890a vs 16889a?
Appreciate your expertise opinion 😊
The 16890a is definitely a better choice over the 16889a. But the 16889a PRO would be just as good if not a little better.
😊
Awesome like usual!
Thanks man!!
Hey your edits are very funny and great 😂❤❤
Haha, thanks!
Is this a newer version of the hbx 16889a pro? Are any parts shared?
Very similar with many parts shared, yes.
So I just pick one of these up for my brother to get into rc fun but I have noticed that the brake suck on it when full throttle then I brake it take like 2 to 3 ft to stop it and most of the time I hit at wall or a object
Is there a way to get it to stop fast
It’s possible the throttle trim is turned too far forward. Could try turning it slightly counter clockwise. Hopefully that does it!
You may have figured it out, but you can program the esc for more brake force. Its default if 25% if i remember correctly and by upping that to 50% will make a huge difference. I changed mine after playing around with it the first time in the house as it would barely stop with very slow speeds.
What's that adapter called that you have on the 3s battery, new to the hobby and trying to find one lol
My 16890a runs 3s just fine. Does everyone else not run 3s? I got my 16890a when it was released about a year ago
I run mine 3s.. got it when it first came out as well.
May I also which 3s battery you used?
I’ve don’t it on my original 16890 and on my 16889a pro. It works but was always a little glitchy. Had to feather the throttle or it would cut out.
Ya it works on the older models but can be glitchy. This new esc handles it a bit better lol. Wish they added a center diff lol
@runpuppyfpv5744 these are the ones I used in the video, but I know there are some out there that actually fit. amzn.to/48tBpue
Awesome video, dude! Your editing skills are on point. Quick question for you: Any recommendations for a killer shock upgrade for this RC?
Thanks man!
No I’ve never replaced the shocks on these. I feel the stock ones are pretty decent 😃
Put a 5000kv motor in the old model and it hits 30mph on 2s. Great vid awesome car
I wanna see you do a video on the “ jetwood jc14ep “ rc car
That is pretty much this car right here with some very minor differences. ruclips.net/video/8l5ghStObnE/видео.htmlsi=AeKWrsKJbUTEuoLw
Very nice but, is this new? I could have sworn I saw it on Amazon back in March?
Yes this is new. I don’t have the previous version but it wasn’t supposed to be 3s capable, though some say it works.
This one is actually designed that way.
Only other difference I believe is the body color. This is the 16890SA, older model was just the 16890A lol
@@DerbyCityRC maybe they used a similar body/color scheme 🤔
@mrzionist ya they did. I linked them both in the description but the other one is yellow this one is green.
DUDE, YOU COULDA JUST WALKED 😂😂😂 your son is hilarious
I might pick up one of these. Finally HBX is stepping up their game! I can’t believe it has a HW esc! That’s sick!
Oh and btw, whats that sweet looking track-star conveniently sitting on the bench? 😂😂
I got one what 3s battery did u put in it
How did you convert your S3 battery connection to for this car?
Sorry if I forgot to add them in the description. amzn.to/3Pma1XN
Thanks!
When you said it is cold, how cold exactly?
It was around 38° that day. Last Monday. Every day since then it’s luckily been in the 50s lol
Ok, just bought myself first modern basher and it is 14 (or -10celcius), wondering about the plastics. Maybe waiting to get bit warmer..
Dude! the amazon's link you posted doesn't lead us to this truck !
It does for me. Are you outside of the US? I believe this is not available on Amazon US for some strange reason 😢
@@DerbyCityRC I'm out of States; in Europe, Portugal. But it's ok. Nowadays I have a 16889A pro to repair: change a front broken drive shaft. Funny thing!...it became to be a 2WD and keeps running.
A mjx14209 waitting for shocks; A mjx m162 doing a very strange sound (rrrrrrrrrr, if you know what I mean :-)) but also keeps running. Also waitting for BG delliver of a SG116 MAX. will the dog bones from a 903a fit 2996a ?
No, the 2995/6a/7a dogbones are longer
✌
Great video! Is it able to do a backflip? Thx!
Thanks! I think it can. Did I not get one in the video? I can’t remember. 3s it for sure could do it but I feel like I got one on 2s also.
Really like this car
Is any there any 3s batteries that are a perfect fit for this rc?
Yes. I’ve seen them. But I can’t remember which ones. Going to try to find them but they’re out there.
What's the difference between 16890a and 16890sa?
The SA is 3s capable so has a different ESC. I believe that is it.
Another great video brutha! Love your content your channel should be up there with tomley and talbot and all those big rc channels. You should do a vid with this car with a couple different tire sizes I like those videos ,tires make a big difference 🤙🤙
Thanks man!!
I may do that!
I did this with the 16889a pro a year or so ago. This would likely yield similar results but I probably will still do it lol
Hmm the other blue one that says beast on the side did 80 km/h on 3s when it isn't even supposed to use 3s...but this did 55 km/h?
Yup! They’re very different cars, this one just doesn’t have as fast of a motor
You should do a review on a Jetwood 1/14 scale 🙏
Well I kinda have. Both of these reviews would be similar or exact to the Jetwood that I’ve seen.

Ok yeah I was thinking that too lol. My jetwood literally looks like an exact replica of the MJX hyper go. Your videos are great btw. Keep up the good work👍
Of course they’d have another version and slightly cheaper a month after I got the 16890a 😂 Is the ESC the main difference? I love mine so far. It has taken quite a beating too!
I believe the esc and the body color are the only differences. Ya that’s not the best timing but you still got a good one! 😳🤣
@@DerbyCityRC appreciate the info! Great vid as always!
Dude I love your videos!
Thanks!
Is this better that the Beast Max, thanks
In some ways yes. Probably almost as durable, comes with a second set of tires, better shocks, and probably higher quality electronics, though i haven’t had issues with either one. Both are great.
@@DerbyCityRC sorry, my mistake I got mixed up (watched quite a few of your videos). It was the Deerc Saboteur I was comparing against the beast. Not sure which to go for
Oh beats max easy! That deerc model is just a hypergo rebrand. I like it, but certainly prefer the beast max platform.
What 3S batteries work for this RC?
This is the only one I know of: amzn.to/4bdks8i
I use a slightly bigger one and strap it to the upper chassis brace but that’s it a great idea in my opinion. I don’t have this one but seems like the best option.
@@DerbyCityRC thanks dude! Ordered.
@kmoyer11 you’re welcome!!
Is this a hyper go or are they different companies.
They are different companies. I find these have a bit better durability.
Came for the RCs... stayed for the dad jokes!
Haha! Thanks!
Im buying this
It’s exceptional!

You got the links mixed up 😂😂👍
I just checked, they’re correct for me 😃😃
