*THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN STEVEN ACTUALLY LAUGH OUT LOUD.* I watched his original performance on The Tonight Show back in the early 1980's ACTUALLY IN THE EARLY 1980's......and it took THIS LONG before I saw him actually laugh out loud. Amazing.
My favorite Steven Wright joke is. I was at my grandpa's funeral and while I was standing at his coffin I thought about my remote and then I thought maybe he's just in there the wrong way.

Many countries worldwide do daylight savings time. But keep in mind that that Australia is in the southern hemisphere and when we have summer they have winter, and vice versa.

yes! the short he did in jim jarmusch's coffee & cigarettes with roberto benigni (strange to meet you) is fn hilarious. u NEED to react it. u will love roberto!! the shorts with bill murray with rza and gza is great, the one with tom waits and iggy is cool fun,, but in my mind none of them even touch the one with taylor mead and bill rice, "champagne". its heartbreaking abstract reality genius.

Steven Wright was recently on Conan's podcast and Conan made him laugh so much. Was nice to see.
No, Stephen really talks like that. He was recently on Conan's podcast "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend", and he talked like that. I will say that he is trying to stay deadpan in this interview, because it fits his natural speaking voice. But on the podcast, he was much more willing to let loose and laugh out loud. But even then, he talked with a really monotone voice. "Late Night" was taped in New York, so that would've been Yankee fans booing.
Steven Wright was such a treat seeing him on TV, musta been '82? He knocked convention on its ear, even coming from us as Steve Martin fans from the late 70s. The stripped-down delivery hit us with an off-kilter consciousness that felt believable, counter-social, and clever.
As to the Australia time thing, remember they are entering the opposite season that we are. As it becomes summer here, it becomes winter there. They are switching time in the same relative direction, it's just the opposite season.
"Or should I stop watching certain news outlets?" I have not watched the news in 30 years. I just stopped. Been a lot happier. Strong advice.
Steven was the 1st observational comedian I saw as a teen in the 80's (Seinfeld [you ever notice]) that didn't bother stringing along his jokes in a story format. Mitch Hedberg the same. Going off on weird tangents was certainly not new (Robin williams) but Stevens delivery seemed that way.
My favorite Wright-ism is "not how you mean".

I grew up in the Boston area. The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are BITTER rivals. In 1920, Boston traded Babe Ruth to the Yankees, and folklore says that trade placed a curse on the Red Sox, whose last championship was won in 1919, UNTIL 2004, when they beat the Yankees to go to the world series, which they won. The mantra was "Reverse the Curse", and they did.
Whenever you get Steven and Conan together on the show it's genius and historical.

New York Yankees fans are the boo birds in the audience, Boston's biggest rivals. In Mass, you're born a Red Sox fan. It's in our blood and always will be no matter where we end up moving to. Worcester, Ma native but lived in Socal since '99. You can take the "kid" out of Boston, but you can't take the Boston out of the "kid."
If you're born between Hartford, CT and Fort Kent, ME, chances are that you're a Red Sox fan.

When flying from Australia to the US you will lose a day…..it’s called the international date line that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole it isn’t a straight line but it’s located mainly in the middle of the Pacific Ocean…..has nothing to do with daylight savings time when you lose an hour in the spring….and gain a hour in the fall….it doesn’t apply to Arizona….

Conan was just a different host when he had his Boston friends on his show, especially with comedians like Steve Wright, Bill Burr, Louis CK, and actors like Steve Carell, Matt Damon or Ben Affleck. Also there's 24 time zones around the world one for each hour of the day Russia for example has 11 time zones. Congress was thinking of eliminating Daylight savings
