Hot glue feels like a more modern invention. I wonder how these traditional dolls were made in more traditional times. Perhaps everything was hand-stitched together?
Was thinking the same thing, I am not a fan of the hot glue and the many uses that it has invaded changing how things were once made. I would rather sit and hand stitch the dolls body parts together than use the hot glue. Over time that glue goes hard and brittle and goes an ugly off yellowing colour.
I think Japan has an amazing, beautiful culture. The end results were beautiful as were the fabrics. I was disappointed to see. everything was hot glued. That took away the craftsmen part for me, but those paintings, wonderful.
These are so lovely! I wish I understood their purpose. Are they playthings (surely not), collectors items, used in performances, given as a particular gift, or simply beautiful things to look at?

Originally, craftsmen used to apply glue mixed with rice and press hot irons to adhere the fabric. Many of these fabrics were pure silk, which had heat-resistant properties. Nowadays, many luxurious fabrics are made of polyester, which melts when exposed to a hot iron. To address this issue, more craftsmen are using glue guns.
素晴らしい動画を有難う御座います。

Those dauber "brushes" they use to paint the plum blossom petals is the perfect tool for that job!
To all the makers....The doll is absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful job you do making such wonderful things.
表面ももちろん素敵ですが、

裏面の梅の絵が素晴らしいと思いました。

I agree that the use of hot glue really detracts from the craftspersonship. Especially the slapdash manner in which it is applied on these dolls.
Magnifique . Que c'est beau que de voir ces artisans travailler avec des mains aussi magiques ...
This is a "masterpiece"
*很精美的东西*
Japanese handicraft is wonderful. ❤️

So much effort and time for an end result that looks cheap.. I am sad for the maker because of this
Hot melt glue is not traditional.
