Here in this video the fatiguing(but 100% environmentally friendly) work of the extractor, sailor of forest that armed with ax, with a match of strength and sensibility, he succeeds in detaching what they once called the soft gold, the cork, without raging on the delicate and vital underlying (mom or fellogeno) bark, whose damage involves a premature downfall of the plant.A job
fascinating that survives from the time of nuraghi in spite of all modernity.
For any curiosity about this please do not hesitate to ask.
This video was produced in the mountains of Linas, on the border between the territories of Fluminimaggiore and Gonnosfanadiga.

this is as satisfying as popping the bubble wrap
That sound is so satisfying
What a pro.
He made it look so easy, when it's probably anything but.
Is it just me, or is the sound of the cork being peeled off incredibly satisfying?
Why is this sound so satisfying?
ghé nhà mình nhé
It's pretty much ASMR
ASMR
truly inspiring. ive only ever seen the cork babies on champaign bottles, but seeing the mother cork under her bark coat has really opened my eyes.
@leoofvgcats depends on the product: the caps can be obtained directly if the cork is of good quality (natural cork) or by grinding the cork, which is then agglomerated.
The pin-up boards are ground cork, as well as seals and insulation and poor-quality craftsmanship.
The insoles for shoes, paper cork, crafts of good quality are natural cork.
I forgot: sweet dreams, dreams of cork, crickets and Sardinian forests
@lujia Not only corks, cork is also used for insulation, clothing, footwear, handicrafts, covering the bolts of the shuttle, automotive gaskets, flooring and much more ....
Yes, the cork regrow, a layer of about 3-7 mm each year. After 10 years, not before to not over-exploit the tree, you can pick up it again.
i love the sound it makes when it's pried off like that
Burnie from RT Podcast 487 sent me, anyone else?
You're not alone
Same
Yo! 🙋🏼
@Humaninsoul you're right considering only production costs, but remember that the cork ,as well be the best closure for wines for long aging, is the best way to safeguard the Mediterranean forests. In contrast, the plastic is much less environmentally friendly and low renewable
this actually looks pretty fun. Peeling the cork off in one big piece must be so satisfying. thanks for sharing this video!
I like how his work place looks fukken awesome! Amazing sight, gotta love working there.
The different sounds make this video very relaxing.
SO satisfying when it comes off clean
Why? Why is the sound so pleasing? The peeling, the crackle of resistance, it's honey to my ears! WHY?
This looks, and sounds, incredibly satisfying.
I hope the business continues I've heard its in danger, that and the cork farms have certain birds that only live in those trees who are endangered because of that or something along those lines. Also takes me back to my family holidays..
Good show Sir, good fortune.
This is immensely satisfying to watch. That sound...
well that was satisfying as hell.
Man, that was strangely satisfying. Like peeling the plastic sheets off electronics.
+ZippoS Or like peeling electronics off the plastic sheets.
He just pantsed the tree ...poor naked tree...Now all the other trees will point their branches and laugh at it
Smart to not really damage the tree as it takes many years for one to get big enough to make nice pieces of cork.
Wow very cool! I love work that involves technique and working with hands.
Ooh! always wondered where it came from!
I heard when cutting it ..it has a nice smell I wish I could be there to see this done in person and to smell the wonderful smell of cork oak ..
This is more interesting than I ever would have thought.
The title should be "Man brutally skinning living tree with an axe"
this would be the most satisfying workout ever
How embarrassing for the tree, left standing there naked like that.
@meggis18 no !!! ;) ,each year new layers of bark are growing, and the previous die. As the cells of our skin.
Cork is composed of dead cells and thus remove it will not cause damage to the oak if the work is done properly and in the right season.
this sound is so satisfying to listen to.
depends on the quality of cork : it can be worth from € 10-15 per quintal if it is male or cork mill, and up to 100-120 € if it's top quality cork.
i had never even thought about where cork comes from until now.
thanks.
yes, it's a so old job; in fact we feel a bit like wild primitives men when in the forest ;) . Jokes aside it's a very satisfying job.
Most satisfying job ever.
I'm not certain just what went on here, but I'm now drooling and ready for a nap.
Oh my god, you're flaying it alive! You monster.
I don't know why, but the sound is amazing. I have pirated it and made a soundtrack to play as I fall asleep.
A little ignorant here, but the corks in our bottles and pin-up boards...are they directly carved from the tree trunk, or processed?
After the cork is removed from the tree, is the tree now more vulnerable to be damaged from things like insects or other factors?
yes, cork is necessary to give protection from mechanical damages, it is idrorepellent, it gives thermal insulation. Also, this treatment expose the cork cambium.
Leo Cane Will it regrow?
MrMrMaran yes, it regrow, about 4-5 mm every year
andrea ghiani Ok. So after a couple of years, it's ready for harvest again? (Assuming it hasn't been destroyed by bugs)
MrMrMaran for the law, and to have an acceptable thickness, we must wait at least 10 years; or more, if tickness is not quite
A bit, unfortunately, yes. Although the latest research are again pushing the cork. Anyway it is not just an economic or quality issue, but the cork has to survive for the subsequent care that it entails for Mediterranean forests. If you stop using the cork probably would lead to a progressive deterioration of the forests of cork.
does anyone else think thats the best sound in the world?
That is the most satisfying sound
Thems a workin mans muskles.
That sound is so god damn satisfying.
I really want to visit Sardinia.
This triggered my asmr.
Much more interesting then i thought it would be.
@lisauhden thank you for your interest.
I'm glad that someone shares my experiences, and even that curiosity is still the engine of our lives.
I'll be waiting in Sardinia: We have many other unique features to show to curious onlookers.
believe me, I have too much love for plants and enough professional skills as not to cause suffering and damage to oak trees ;-)
this man is a BEAST
anyone else find that sound very satisfying ?
I love that sound
great work! both axe guy and camera guy! :)
Ohhhh that crunching sound...
that axe makes a great noise when its twisted in the cork
Thank you, Burnie Burns
@eldiablodelverde Yes the tree is still alive.Cork is composed of dead cells and thus remove it will not cause damage to the oak if the work is done properly and in the right season.
@aNarkonur Thank you, wounder what is the science behind it...normally the bark is for structure and the skin carries water and nutrition from the roots for the tree to grow.. For the case of this tree, there might still be a thin layer of living skin underneath the dead ones and undisturbed by this process..
I think that's a wonderful haircut mr tree.
Could use more explanation. Maybe a close up on the "cork"?
"Ouch!" Said the cork tree.
@potatostash1 this is a quite small oak and it can produce 5-10 kg ,but normally the oak can also produce 40 -50 kg, and sometimes he can exceed 100kg
Great video, couple of questions ; if you take the skin from the bark like that wouldn't it kill the tree for good, you are using the skin as cork right?
.....and we will be happy to welcoming you ;)
after you do this thr tree is stil alive? this thing affect's him?sry my english...
Does the tree die to that or does it manage to grow new layer of bark?
@deenibeeni Thank you. If you come here in Sardinia, you will be able to photograph the guy and his work all day long......I saw your photographic work, congratulations.
I'm not here from RT podcast. Is it worryng?
Nice axe, is the handle bare wood or oiled, since it looks dark? How did you do it? thank you, nice work.
Hello and thank you for your interest. in a day's work you can work from 30 to 50 plants, whether aloneiIt really depends on the size of the plants and by environment in which it operates. Paired with another worker, as tradition dictates of work, including more than 100.If you have any curiosity, ask also;)
bye
Is that a remote control in your pocket, or you're just happy to see me?
3:32 ohh yeah baby thats the money shot.
@herpderpeton Come in Sardinia, and you get this job, but I Wager, you can no longer resist a few minutes. Easy and exciting to see but very hard to play ..... the forest is all uphill, full of pitfalls and very hot (40 degrees in the shade)....it seems that the oaks do it on purpose to grow in the most difficult
Anyway we'll wait you, least as a spectator ;)
@MomaWang You did not understand anything. The tree does not die.
On the contrary because it produces cork is protected and its habitat, the Mediterranean forest, preserved.
Please ,you have to inform before writing....
Grande👍
@mfskarphedin lol no. No cork trees are cut down or killed during harvest, they simply remove the bark and wait for it to regrow.
Have you seen price changes in the raw cork with regard to the fact that metal screw caps seal wine bottles better than the synthetic corks or traditional oak bark corks?
damn that looked satisfying
do you know that trees haven't a nerve system?
This is better than porn... his muscles... I can't.
Yes, correct: you can't XD
indinur andrea ghiani Oh shit. She wants to sesso con il tuo uomo.
xDogsOfWar ;) si, per favore!
Okay, "Tina"
depends greatly on the quality of cork: if it is waste, about 1 €, if it is the best quality around 5 €
@nexx1011 mmmhmm!! Completely agreed. I've played it back like 5 times to hear those sounds :D
How long does it take for the cork to grow back?
10 years
@Valkyriefury Yes that is why cork is sustainable. The tree will grow it back and it can be harvested again.
@aNarkonur What do you mean remove any cork from the bottle?
@LTF85199 No, he does not kill the tree ,if the work is done properly and in the right season.
Yes, the "skin" is cork.Cork is made up of annual layers of dead skin cells
Gahhhhh.... the noise is amazing.
so wait, does the bark grow back? and if it does how long does it take?
I like you. I like the comment.
It sounds like some really solid styro foam.
will the tree live?
@gk147 even here in Sardinia: the cork often plays host to many insects, especially red ants, those that pinch more ......
Yes,many young prefer to avoid similar job because is very hard. Before you learn how to do it you must do for some year the collector, and is very hard too.But basically this job is declining because deep crisis of cork sector.
You can learn only seeing others doing it.To read and view more about it, for better understanding you can click the links in the video description
Besides this is a seasonal job, that go along for about 3 months, and for that you cant do this work for a living
Now that's skill!
