17:55 what a legend. That is what windsurfing is all about. Great fun to watch, even the sailwatch under your wetsuit… thanks for sharing all these moments!
Ben. This is the best You have done since "Idiots guide to speed". Which by the way be the best "series" I have seen on RUclips. You have influenced me so much that I have started to WS again. 56 years old helicopter pilot.
I watched the whole thing!! I enjoyed all of it!! You're a real bloody hoot Ben, the humour and the serious bits when it needs to be........pure gold in my book!!
Hi from Sydney Australia! I'm just a beginner so it was really interesting and inspiring seeing what a slalom competition is like, and watching the up-and-comer Brendan since he looks my age. Congrats on the win!
Hey Ben ! Very Nice to walk with you through the whole event and especially your preparation. You present it as it is and it s funny to watch. Also I learned a few things. Congratulations on the winning but that Brandon... keep your eyes on him!
I love how you give us real, honest insights into such an event from a rider's perspective. Especially the talking in the beginning was so interesting! We average freeride windsurfers can relate to all these thoughts: do I have all the screws and parts, what gear fits together and what should I take in the first place... haha
Yep, made it all the way through. My windsurfing days are done but it was really good to watch, brought back a lot of happy memories. I remember you as a keen little squib at the youth events, so what's changed...?!! Cheers mate!
Among all those awesome vlogs you've made, Ben, this will be among my favs. Very entertaining, very interesting and hilariously funny! Thanks and looking forward to more!
Smiling the whole time watching😊 Well done. Such is the life of a windsurfer, anguishing over what kit to rig. I figure you’re doing well in life if that’s your biggest worry😎 Cheers. Loved it!
Loved every bit of it. Especially your rigging tips you learned from the pros. I am new to slalom gear this year so I am sucking up every bit of your slalom videos!
Great video Ben, some interesting and informative little bits as well as some good laughs. Anyone watching this should defo leave you some beer money to allow you to make more content like this!
For the fin I go with the width too. However if it's slalom I add only 2 cm or so as you are going fast and you and the carbon fins have a lot of lift, but for freeride and g10 fins especially i would generally add at least 4 cm or so. Glad if this helps some of you. Works for me🤙🤙
Ben, such a briliant event & great atmosphere there!!! Just watched it while in bed as couldn't fall in sleep :) love it !!!! And I can't sleep again hahahahha
Like all the comments before, love watching your videos, your so relatable because all of us have done the ," forgot to take the fin cover off" , "Oh this downhaul line will still last another session", BUT NEVER, EVER, have I found a brand new Carbon Boom that I never knew I had...lol. Great Videos Ben, looking forward to your next one already.
This is one of the best idiots guide I've seen on this channel. Brilliant sense of humour and very interesting. Very well done on making this video! Go Ben 🤙
10:34 : rigging like this for years now. Small tip. You allready noticed that second camber from above pops of easily. So, do that one not as first but as third. First second from below, than the topcam. Than that one cam that pops of easily and at last the bottom cam
Brilliant video, entertaining and Informative, lots of tips and ideas which are priceless. Seriously thinking about venturing into slalom and this was very useful.
hahahaha my downhaul rope looked tattered yesterday and as I was downhauling it the rope snapped on me too 😂 but like you said, I was glad to break it on the beach instead of way off in the water somewhere!
Ben one of the best videos you have done. Great insights, useful and funny. I am still smilling. Two questions, what slalom watch are you using and what app do you use to know your speed and finally what's the name of that great invention for the boom?
You have absolutely smashed it with this episode! Nice insights, funky mood, great imagery. What else do we need? (Btw those two guys around the last part seemed to be a tiny bit stoned) ¦]
Great channel. It’s a shame that WS didn’t take off. I blame it on kids attention spans and general laziness. It takes a few days (a week) to learn well enough that you can go out and return to the spot you started from. From there you are determined to learn the advanced basics. Like beach and then water starts . Getting in a harness.
Hello guys! Mind if I ask this? Do Simmer slaloms have only 2 plugs per a footstrap end? Then what is the widest setting for a big foor in warm booties? What is the biggest possible distance between the plugs' centers?
Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. Anyway I sail exclusively with Ezzy sails (and masts) from some years ago (5 battens sails) and since I started with my Elite’s if I rig them with the printed measurements then I feel the sails gets overpowered easily because the very deep profile they have (the profiles extend up to the harness lines which in my case I place them centered and without gap between both extremes). At this point the sails don’t develop speed and upwind performance. Normally I need to rig from max downhaul settings and 2cm more if the winds picks up. Just add that I sail normally in choppy water and gusty conditions. Any advice for me?
well, i can't really comment on Ezzy in particular as i've never owned one. But from what i hear they rig slightly different. But i wouldn't worry too much about printed measurements. They are just a guide... and if the sail feels better with more downhaul... go with that. Feel is the best guide 👍🏻
@@WindsurfingTV thanks a lot I don’t know how but my comment was dedicated to a video of Graham Ezzy. Anyway thanks again because your attention and just add that you job with your channel is super. My 11 yo son and myself are great supporters of you
Interesting question. I would guess ‘No’ but I guess it would depend on a lot of things.. conditions etc. but would be cool to get some slalom gear from the early 90’s and see against the new pro’s. I think the fin would be a massive advantage and obviously the lighter winds.

Awesome and very entertaining. Congratulations on nailing the 1st place.
So there is a fair bit of Rigging and chatting at the beginning... maybe most of you will skip to the action! 😁
I like your “documentaries “ 👍
Ben, that's windsurfing mostly rigging and chatting its what makes us social🤙
It’s good to have both it adds to the story
No no no, the first part is really valuable for us idiots!

Hey ben do more idiots guide to slalom i really enjoy them
Need to look at your OFO width to manage the depth of the fin.
Update on Brendan Lorho? When will you be competing in slalom again?
What size fin do you drive on the 6.3 and 96ltr? Great comp!
I’ve got a 32 Gasoil fin which works great
YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS
Ben, what weather would you use the 116 liter board (Slalom)?
7.8 and 7.0 weather
That's how i roll.. dunno knots but do know what sail to rig..
Ben, do your reckon you could have won PWA slalom say in the 1990’s if you alone could use today’s gear, everyone else on the 90’s gear?
Interesting question. I would guess ‘No’ but I guess it would depend on a lot of things.. conditions etc.
but would be cool to get some slalom gear from the early 90’s and see against the new pro’s. I think the fin would be a massive advantage and obviously the lighter winds.
