The technology may have advanced, but the developers' ambitions have clearly regressed. It's disappointing to see one of the crown jewels of the RTS genre be dumbed down this way.
In my opinion the previous game was a bit complicated, needlessly so. But...this is my opinion from 20 years ago lmao. I was a whole different person then. Nowadays I really appreciate and understand the complexity and ingenuity of the previous game and once again reminded that video games have fallen so far in quality since I was younger. It's a shame to see.
To keep strike craft docked, select the Launch button at the top right and turn off autolaunch.
Thank you for keeping the basic short review format. So sick of typing in reviews for games I'm interested in and seeing dozens and dozens of 1-2 hour long let's play or "let's check out" rather than a solid proper review or summary. Subbed for that fact.
Edit: Just wanted to add I find it hilarious that 90% of Denuvo games that come out are usually skimped out on content and or very bad.

As someone who enjoyed HW 1, 2 and Cataclysm back in the day, this feels like a smack in the face. The greed on these companies is just too much and they deserve every bit of piracy they get.
I hope mods turn this into a great game everyone can pirate years from now and for Gearbox to go bankrupt.

However, I agree that this is a shame. I was so fricken excited for this game and now i'm so disappointed :(
For what it's worth, the squadron build thing was a big disapointment for HW2 coming from Cataclysm and HW1 and I think here they just tried to fix that. HW1 had fighters and you cared about "each" of them. The squadron thing was the first step towards not caring for your units and that frustrated quite a bit of HW1 players. Ofc we got over it, but it just shows the trend, which we saw here again in HW3, where all fighters are just disposable.
They worked on adding permanent battle scars but nothing is worth reparing anyway...
I personally liked the squads. Made it easier to manage larger armies and made it more realistic that building one interceptor could help counter the enemy. But that's just my opinion cuz I never played the first one lol.
Homeworld 3 reminds me the imfamous Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War III, cut off almost everything that unique and depth to flatter the modern game market, but have failed utterly.
yeah pretty much. This is the whole reason I started my channel. Because the overall quality of gaming has decreased in the past 20 years and I've had to slowly watch it happen...and it pisses me off.
I always see the comments about "modern" and "woke" but honestly games are hard to make and sometimes they just fail to make a good game. There were lots of failures back in the olden times you just don't remember those.
@@JD-vj4go Don't get me wrong. I'm not disagreeing with you. However back in the day there were more good then bad games because everyone was trying something new, competing for the number one spot and actually trying to put out games. There was no early access. There was no microtransactions.
Back in the day I'd play one hit game after another from different companies. Back in the day it was harder to find a bad game then a good one. The problem is the mindset of the heads of companies in the gaming company today. They want more microtransactions and seasons passes and half assed work and they want to charge us more for it.
@@JD-vj4go I agree you, but if they know that's a failure, who not cut the price? We pay for the game not their "hard work".
@@jimyang9889 Agree completely. I just mean the game seems to have failed as a fun game with good value. GEARBOX are still ruthlessly capitalist and will eek out every penny they can.

Have it on my wishlist but the general opinion expressed about it is: it's pretty but short and shallow.
I mean, yes homeworld was never that big complex thing out there some people try to make it out to be .. but dumbing that bit down even more really means borderline autoplaying gameplay to be put on a smartphone ..
Which really puts me so far off, that i am sad this game probably will flop and publishers will be like: the IP is worthless!!! .. When the actual fault lies in the always cutting corners approach of the money greedy industry. Please make a good product first, before asking to get rich for it.
I agree completely. I mean...20 years ago homeworld was better then this one. 20 YEARS AGO!!
My mind is literally unable to comprehend how...just...just how? How did they not make something bigger and better???

The story is really bad, the characters are annoying and it's quite woke.

Thanks for the review, I was around when the 1st game dropped and I loved it,they fixed so many issues with the second one. I was over the moon when the remastered edition came out, sad to see where it has gone now just like so many things it's been dumbed down
yep, my brother and I loved the second game. We played it all the fricken time. When the remaster came out we felt like kids again playing it all the time.

It really just feels like devs of this made Homeworld Mobile and it's Homeworld Mobile 2, since they are quite incapable of creating beatiful coherent new story. I see more similarities with that one than with Homeworld 2 and I won't even start with Homeworld 1 or Cataclysm. I really don't like the story of this one, plus there are some things in the gamefiles that suggest that at some point our mothership was to be followed by two others, so it would actually feel like an expedition and not same stuff again. I can rant about the story all day, so I better shut up :D

I played both HW 1 and 2, just from watching gameplays of 3rd I see it's lacking.
Yeah I get ya. The biggest disappointment for me was the lack of tactical options involving the ships management. I wanted to keep my interceptors in the mothership but couldn't. I wanted to see dogfights and couldn't. I wanted so many things from the last game but just done better here :(
Yeah...I was hoping for at least Homeworld 2 level game play...yeah. Why is modern unit AI so brain dead? Homeworld 1&2 both did better than this! In 1 it even plotted the ballistic shots as actual physical objects that could miss and hit your own units!
yeah the last two games were so much better. That's the era of games I grew up in lol. I always thought they'd get better...not worse :(
@@miah_the_king All about money now. The new generation is use to this kind of gameplay and don't see why, why it was better back in the day.

This game was a terrible release, less content, less units, the worst campaign out of the 5 games, the cinematics are cheesy and woke, the gameplay is broken.... the whole thing is a mess, the only upside is the graphics, which isnt a huge improvement considering they made the maps smaller and cluttered!?
The game is laggy because of the Denuvo. The gameplay is quite ok, but the story is bad and woke, with annoying characters.
idk, the gameplay was just average for me. Maybe below average. Did you ever play the original?
@@miah_the_king I've played the original on release in 1999 and many times since then, but I didn't play this one because I refuse to install the Denuvo on my computer. So I just watched until now.
The game doesn't bring anything to the table, which is quite disappointing.
Also the cutscenes are very bad, the lip-sync is horrible, etc. It's like they were done 15 years ago by amateurs on the rush.
@@claudianreyn4529 Idk about that. I mean i thought the lipsyncing and facial animations were pretty good. Well...more or less...some of the scenes were a bit awkward but mostly it wasn't too bad. I do like how they kind of streamlined the controls and stuff. But...imo they took it too far.
