- Yakuza, known in Japan as Ryū ga Gotoku (龍が如く, Like a Dragon), is an action-adventure beat 'em up video game franchise created, owned and published by Sega. The series originated from Toshihiro Nagoshi's desire to create a game that would tell the way of life of the yakuza. Nagoshi initially struggled to find a platform for the project, until Sony showed interest in the prospect.
The series primarily focuses on the yakuza Kazuma Kiryu from the Tojo Clan. While Kiryu often assists the Tojo Clan, the series has also featured him searching for another way of life in the form of raising orphans. The gameplay of Yakuza has the player controlling Kiryu (or another character depending on the title) in an open district where he can encounter an enemy or perform an activity in the city to obtain experience.
The franchise has become a commercial and critical success, and as of 2020, Sega has reported that the Yakuza franchise has sold a combined total of 12 million units in physical and digital sales since its debut in 2005. Strong sales of the games in its original Japanese market has led to the franchise's expansion to other media, including film adaptations.

There are also several spin-off titles. One, Kenzan!, relates Kazuma Kiryu's supposed ancestor, historic figure Miyamoto Musashi from the 16th and 17th centuries; another, Dead Souls, follows a zombie invasion of Kamurocho, the primary setting for the series; a PlayStation Portable spinoff series, Kurohyō, is about a teenage street fighter from Kamurocho that ends up in a fight where he kills a Tojo clan yakuza.

Kiryu's real estate business felt a bit more like a grind, but of course had to complete it. Cabaret, on the other hand, was my jam 🥰
Kiryu single-handedly funded Majima's weapon collection, though. Kiryu's business was essentially a turn-key operation once off the ground.
Majima made less and had to work his tail off for it. It's way more fun to be Majima in 0, though.
I like how from this, Majima managed to learn how to use a dagger like a madman.
That's just from doing customer service.

the ending to this game made me cry like a baby, Goro's story is so fucking bittersweet it hits the feels harder then a Heat Action.
Yakuza 0 was a Metal Gear Solid 3 and Better Call Saul level prequel that can actually be played first.
Funny how literally curb stomping someone with breaker stance on Majima, then a second later jamming out to this song in the Carbaret is so nice
That date with goromi in kiwami 1 and having him reminisce as a runner of a cabaret club being a bitter sweet memory really pulls it in. In a way he really didn't enjoy it because he cared about his workers and it didn't feel right "using" them more or less. It was like a feel good hurt seeing him look back at it

I'm playing Yakuza0 these days and I love this mini game with Majima! It's my first Yakuza and they really did great job with Majima game story, Cabaret mini games/battles and side stories. I LOVE MAJIMAAAAAAA

Only reason why we got Yakuza 0 was to get Majima as a playable character. It was actually going to be a standalone spin-off but they added Kiryu later on. Mainly because *Sega wasn't sure if Majima was popular enough to get his own game.*

@@solblackguy To be fair, I didn't find him and his story as initially compelling as Kiryu, and was antsy to get back to that storyline. It gets so good though when they introduce Makoto, and I absolutely love the guy from his convos with her and with the hostesses.

I played Yakuza 0 for the first time around a year and a half ago, and this song this makes me emotional as hell. I love this song, the sad sub story instumental, and Baka Mitai so such.

I knew as the series gets more popular with the west it is undoubtedly gonna get toxic sooner or later, but for now I'm glad all of us can enjoy brawling like a mad dog 1 sec and then play barbie without getting judge like it should be
