Not bad way to do cuttings after all are grandma did it this way for years without all that snake oil but if you where going to use rootting jelly same rules apply as chips and dip don't double dip it will contaminate the hole thing use Q-tips or take some out and place it in another container.Happy growing.
Thanks for this video, I've been trying to get a coleus canina to take root for about 2 weeks in water, without success. I'm going to move it into a dark spot now, as I didn't know about the effects of light. Im wondering if I should make a new cut, as the old cut was made over 2 weeks ago and it might have sealed? I'm going to try some rooting gel, as I've just been doing it in plain water. One thing I didn't see you do is to make a little tent from a plastic bag to stop the plant from drying out...
Hi. You mentioned the plants should be kept away from direct sunlight for a few days after planting in soil, do the rooting cuttings need sunlight though? Thanks
A lot of good gardeners will attest to using rooting hormone to encourage root development, sure it's not needed but it seems to boost the vigour of roots.
When I put houseplant cuttings in water to form roots, usually they just turn mushy, brown and rot. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can someone help please?
That might be so, but as those are testimonials, they should never be taken seriously in the realm of knowledge. There have been, on the other hand, actual experimentation on the subject matter and none have shown any statistical difference. In at least one study I can remember, it actually did statistically significant harm. So some people attested to blood letting making them get over a cold quicker, who cares? and look where that got us back then. Many attest to mutually exclusive ideas.
You're talking about rooting hormone as if it was a witches brew! I've seen the results first hand of using rooting powder or gel, not me but a friend. Also check out channels from youtube of ordinary gardeners using it versus not using it. The cuttings that were placed in gel had much bigger and more agressive roots, why is it so hard to believe that chemists or biologists can create compounds which speed up nutrient intake etc?

Well i must comment apple peels does the tick for speeding up the root growth.
So i would never buy any to make the roots grow faster.
Be careful not to inhale this chemical you're about to put on your food?
It's an auxin compound, not particularly toxic. I don't know why she even said that to be honest - there's usually not much chance of inhaling a gel.
Comes as powder or gel. Maybe she meant the powder
This was almost a good video until 1:31
Meena Precio yep
I don't understand what you mean being so bad?
