This is NOT a good sight at Long Marston.

When we get new trains shored for this long for all sorts of reasons it doesn't look good does it.

Completely agree, and the situation is a disgrace.. The Merseyrail Class 777 EMUs are only there for a short time, as there is no depot space to store them on Merseyside. The Class 701 units being stored are another matter. In view of the incredible delays in First accepting any of those units (they maintain it is largely due to defects and systems problems), it is ironic that when First won the contract to run South Western Railway they didn’t order more Class 707 Desiro units from Siemens. The 30 ordered by Stagecoach were fully accepted by the driving staff and working well in service. First thought they had a cheaper option from Bombardier ( now Alsthom) but what a joke that has turned out to be, with only two in regular use for short periods each day. If they had ordered a comparable number of Desiros, they would all be in service, and they could be running a full service ! You really couldn’t make up this mess.

This is Brexit Britain. We are literally pouring money down the drain. Not planning anything, or thinking long-term. It's all about just the next few years.....then the next few, and so on. We can't keep thinking in this way - it's breaking the country.

Some of the Merseyrail 777s have been sitting in sidings in Poland for over three years before moving to Long Marston. The official reason is that Covid impacted on their delivery as there was no opportunity for driver training when in reality they were ordered and bought by Merseytravel with the intention that they would be DOO. Eventually, an agreement was made that they would retain a guard/train manager. Unfortunately, since delivery commenced over a year ago, the operational reliability of the 777s has been appalling.@@antman09ful1

I wouldn’t worry yourself about it too much. It’s modern rubbish.
Invest your time into the heritage locos we have running while we still can.

DfT decides what company gets what traction, they don't get to choose themselves. Besides most of these unit types are cheaply built and require a lot of maintenence.

Well the DfT need to rethink how they spend tax payer money.

It's such a waste to see new trains in storage

What a waste of assets. Maybe ownership of trains and each TOC company which runs the trains which it leases off someone else, could in future become one contract or arrangement. Consolidation is needed for the rail industry rather than the current model of fragmentation.

Something needs to change with out railways, its a crazy mess.

Incredible waste of money and rescources with most new trains just sat there gradually degrading being exposed to the elements although 701s have started to enter service

    • @antman09ful1

I have only seen one 701 mentioned in service Jacob or is there more now.

@@antman09ful1 Not entirely sure but I believe they will start to be rolled in within the next few months. Although that is purely based on the fact of the BR 455, those liverys only come about when the trains are entering their final year. Another example of that is 323221 as now 730s are being pulled in

Not sure about that Michael, we should be able to tour around the site like I did when they stored the class 86s and 87s there.
