- It’s the start of the first big adventure on the Royal Enfield Classic 350, a three day trip to the Lake District. I will be riding the lakes high passes including the Hardknott Pass, the steepest in England. Let’s see how the plucky little bike copes with them.
I’m staying in youth hostels, another first for me, I’ve booked a private room, but it will be an experience!
On the first leg I ride over the upper Pennines to Ullswater for my first night.
Pull up a chair, get a cuppa and let’s go for a ride!
My Bikes:
BMW R1150RT
Royal Enfield Classic 500
Royal Enfield 350 machismo with sidecar
Honda ST1100 Pan
Suzuki GN125
Yamaha 535 Virago

I’ve been doing some research on the classic 350. I used to ride a sport bike and years later I’m looking at more modern classic bikes. The reason I’m leaving a comment though is even though I live in beautiful British Columbia Canada, I can’t get over the endless stunning rural roads in the UK that are a dream for casual motorcycling. From the stone houses to the rolling hills it’s ridiculously beautiful. All the diff UK Moto channels I watch, you all have these insanely breathtaking roads to ride. Your all blessed in the UK.
It’s my mission to get out there after my early retirement in a couple of years to ride those roads.
Cheers
Graham
I find your videos almpst as joyful, relaxed and chilled as I do riding my own Classic 350 reborn. I only have 500 miles on it but a National park tour beckons. Thanks for your time and for posting.
Glad you like them! Which national park are you going to head off to? Ride safe, Dave
@@thatblokeonamotorbike I live next to Dartmoor and I figure a loop taking in Exmoor, Brecon, Snowdonia for starters :)You ride safe too :)
Love your videos and this is the reason why I have decided to get my bike licence after years of procrastinating. Doing it the DAS rute and once passed, a Classic 350 will be bought. This is what retro biking is all about and what a fantastic machine.
What a great ride and great video, the pace and tone and sound of the Classic, just perfect
Absolutely breathtaking ride!
Hi, thanks, it is fantastic countryside to ride through. I can't wait to get back there this year. Ride safe, Dave
This is real biking, laid back and of course a right laid back Yorkshire man narrating the journey. What a relaxing way to spend Christmas evening. Absolutely love it. Thanks for the upload
Hi thanks for your lovely comments.
There are lots more videos to come next year. Have a great Christmas and happy new year, stay safe, Dave
I live in southern Austria , really enjoying my classic 350 , despite having many other bikes in my garage , it’s the perfect bike for the twisty mountain roads
Hi thanks for the comment, I would love to get mine on the mountain roads in Austria. I'm putting it on my bucket list. Ride safe
Well doesn't this video just show that you don't need to fly everywhere at 90mph to have a good ride. In fact this, for me, surpasses that, relaxed riding, taking in the scenery, stress levels virtually nil, wonderful. Many thanks, regards.
Hi Stuart, you are so right, it's one reason I really like all the Royal Enfield bikes. Ride safe, Dave
Superb Scenery
Hi, thanks for the comment. It's a lovely part of the country. Ride safe, Dave
My 350 Classic arrives on Thursday! I live near Askrigg, so these roads are very familiar. Calimoto really does send you around the houses......not a bad thing though!! Love the videos.
Great video, I’ve had my 350 since late June and have done 2350 miles on it, it’s getting more outings than my R1250RS, I absolutely love it!
Hi Tim, I got mine in July, 4700 miles later I'm still smiling. I'm the same, my R1150RT hasn't moved . Ride safe
Great vids! I've a Classic350 arriving in a few days from Preston Motorcycles. It'll take a little to get used to it after 40 years absence. I'm up Nth Lakes, 10 miles NE of Penrith. Totally looking forward to really exploring all the lakes lanes that I wouldn't take a car down. I know the sun will return one day.
what a cool ride this was!
Hi, thanks for your comment, really glad you enjoyed it. Ride safe, Dave
Fantastic views, great motorcycle and lovely music.
Glad you enjoyed it, ride safe, Dave
18:55 At Buckden, turn left toward Hubberholme > Yokentwaite > Oughtershaw > Hawes, it’s an amazing stretch of road.
Really, the whole area is a playground for bikes like your 350
Hi, thanks for the tip, I have noted them down and will give it a go when the good weather gets here. Ride safe, Dave
As you say, Dave 'WOW'. - Decided to watch this series from the start so I've a very enjoyable few days ahead of me. You narrate your ride effortlessly which I suppose comes from talking to your trainee motorcyclists as you ride through an intercom device. I have to do mine afterwards.
Nice that you don't move your head overmuch so we don't get giddy.
Taking a break from watching now we've reached Bolton Abbey. Peter
Hi Peter, if you're having a break in Bolton Abbey, if you ride about a mile further up there is the Route 59 Café, well worth a visit for a cuppa and bacon buttie!
@@thatblokeonamotorbike aha so that's where it is! Ainsworth Rider and his chum Silver Fox are often seen there. 😂.
Thanks for the information, Dave. Just waiting to hear back from Preston motorcycles who apparently have messed up the allocation for my Hunter - or MotoGB have. But it may be an ill wind... I'll tell you why as soon as I hear from them.
I love my Meteor but had the Hunter been available when I ordered in January 2020 I may have chosen that. Water under. Keep warm. Peter
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 I forgot to say, the Route 59 café is abut 100 yards from Bolton Abbey station, a very nice train ride to Emsbay on the steam preservation line. I often call off there and use my heritage rail pass for a bit of a ride .... another good cafe as well, cheers Dave
On the second part of the first episode now, Dave while having breakfast. Oh my this is just the very best riding. Such a landscape and you enable us to enjoy it so well. I was on holiday in this part of the Dales in September and it's great to be taken there again.
Your enthusiasm bubbles over!
That sat sounds really great. Is it 'CallyMoto? ". Not come across it but I think it sounds ideal. Thank you for sharing your ride with me. Peter
@@Lanes-Explorer5733 Morning Peter, glad you're enjoying them. It is Callimoto, I have it on my phone which is in my jacket pocket. I bought a Bluetooth headset from Amazon, cost me £20... it's brilliant for connecting to the phone for Callimoto and taking calls. Dave
Nice surroundings and bike........really enjoy the video!!
Thanks Jo, can't wait to get out on another trip. Ride safe
I really enjoyed the style of content!
Peaceful, easy going and great way to take you away
Cars don't seem to make any room for passing. Why don't they go more to the side of the road when a motorcycle is aproaching? Nice to see the ride. Good luck.
Beautiful view ❤️
Hi I'm happy you like the video. It is a wonderful place to ride.
Ride safe, Dave
Beautiful ride ! Beautiful bike ! Cool ! Very cool ! Just found your channel, I'm happy to support you and other fellow motovloggers. Best of luck with your efforts, I look forward to seeing more from you. Take care and ride safe out there 💯💯👍👍
Beautiful scenery
A nice little bimble through the dales. I will have a look at the others, as you are riding some of the roads I do too. Subscribed 👍 Cheers
Amazing scenery and roads, perfect for your Enfield. I look forward to your next episode. Ride safe.
Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it. the next episode is set to go out on Friday at 6pm, ride safe
Very enjoyable ride the Classic gets better as the mileage increases 🙂
Totally agree!
Love the video . Can't wait for part 2
Hi Adam, thanks for the comment and subscription I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Part 2 goes live at 6pm tonight
Stay safe, Dave
hi there great video and commentary ! Got my 350 in June awesome bike done 2750 miles not mist a beat PS love the mountain goat 🐐 bang on mate cheers bill.
Hi Bill, thanks for the comment. These bikes really are addictive. Where do you do your riding ? Ride safe, Dave
hi dave huddersfield area eg holmefirth honley etc etc etc !
@@williamtaylor874 Almost my back yard, I'm in Leeds, love the ride up over Home Moss for a cuppa
This upload of yours has just popped up, thought I’d have a look and so happy I did. Your narration is clear and camera position is spot on 👌. Now, it’s your channel and it’s ultimately your decision what you do with it, but the background music when your narrating is a little irritating 😢. The sound from you and the glorious sound from the engine and exhaust note is more than enough to listen to.
I have just subscribed and will take a good look at all your uploads, as I too am a Yorkshire Dales and Lake District rider.
All the very best 👍🏻
I guess the roads were built before automobiles.
Is that why they are so narrow?
Hi Bob, most roads in the UK go back hundreds if not thousands of years. Especially the roads I tend to travel with the drystone walls were originally footpaths and drovers roads.
One reason they are so twisting is they would go around field bounders. it all makes for a very picturesque landscape. Ride safe, Dave
Enjoyed this. Where to you mount your phone/Sav out of interest?
Hi the phone is running the satnav function. It's in my pocket and Bluetooth to a £20 headset in my helmet.
Ride safe

Cheers. Really thinking of getting a 350
Classic. Any problems with it?
@@dartmoormole none at all. Almost 6000 miles since July
Since I got this my ST1100 Pan and BMW R1150RT haven' moved.
The only thing I have found is it drops into neutral between 1 & 2 if you rev it high
I just love it.
Cheers. Great little series. Properly enjoyed it
Loved this video but, although I hate to make any kind of criticism, the background music was unnecessary and, quite frankly, awful. The burble of the Enfield exhaust would have been more soothing to us bike lovers. Sorry to criticise.
Hi Dave, you're right it was a bad choice of music. you will find in later episodes I only use music at the opening, of leave it out altogether. Ride safe
Excellent roads and content but the background music is hideous and annoying
Got to say...I had to close the vid early because of that. It went from pleasant to the worst earworm. Vloggers don't learn from other's mistakes, as it's endemic.
