How can you not have the utmost respect for him? "I feel we have to earn our audience's respect each time"....that is what makes him, and RUSH in general..so GREAT!
I never get tired of listening to Neil talk. I love his energy and in the end his interviews are the best for a 'shy' guy who does not like to do interviews. He actually had so much to say and was actually very transparent.
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary
With a heavy heart I would like to say to the family & friends of Neil Peart, you have my sincerest and utmost condolences! What a profound loss this is. The world is a little bit darker now without you in it Neil, you will be missed and never forgotten. 😢
I was fortunate enough to see them during that Moving Pictures tour when he claims everything came together for them. I was 17 then and it blew me away. I couldn't believe so much sound came from just 3 guys. Ok, 2 guys and one Octopus. LOL. I have been a fan ever since.
As he mentions being a warm-up act... It was 1976 when the headliner the Atlanta Rhythm Section canceled and the warm-up act who I've never heard of before... RUSH took the show at the Hammond Civic center in Northwest Indiana. Needless to say I bought a RUSH t-shirt that night... 34 shows and four decades later, The excitement and virtuosity they always brought live was the most consistent thing throughout my life. Well done indeed Professor!
I really love this interview. Rare subject with an enthusiastic fan giving the interview!! So good, so entertaining!! I love RUSH, and I miss Neil’s presence in this world. He is playing in a heavenly band with his wife on bass and vocals and his daughter playing lead guitar!
Didn't we all see Rush live? Surely a right of passage for generations of Young Canadians (pun intended - the punks will know). Deeply appreciated and well-known world wide but no greater love, and fan base, than we, the home team. Thank you Neil, Geddy, and Alex for being the soundtrack of so many of our lives. You always made me proud when a far-flung local said, "Oh, yes, you're from Canada...so is Rush, right?"
I swear if there were any possible way to do so I’d bring him back in a heartbeat…rest easy, Neil-thank you so very much for every single gift you’ve given us over the past forty years. 🙏🏻♥️
I played as a Drummer since 16.... This Guy educate me so much Lyrics to0. I am now 52 .... I miss Neil , He was a part of my life since since I was 13
Not only that, he should get an award for conducting a great interview by putting someone like Neil at ease that he actually wanted to talk. Neil was well known for cutting stupid interviews short.
Thanks for posting this. Neil is my favorite lyricist in rock. Sensitive and thoughtful and intelligent. As I have grown older I have not outgrown the things he writes about.
As well as being the best drummer in the world & such a fantastic lyricist , he was just such a beautiful human being. His wisdom inspired me from childhood, I feel privileged to have seen Rush many times here in the UK. We will always miss you, Neil. x
I would have loved to have ridden with him along his way just for a bit, to see the USA the way HE saw it, from his perspective. Would have been cool..
Too many music critics are more interested in trying to show how clever and cool they think they are than in actually talking about music. They get so far up their own asses they come to conflate their subjective opinions with objective facts. Some of the negative opinions I've encountered regarding Rush lyrics are clearly focused on things Neil wrote when he was in his early to mid 20s, and seem totally ignorant of how his writing matured over the years.
What a great guy you can tell he's introverted and he's just trying to get the interview over with so he can have peace and quiet. After being the world's greatest drummer for so long of course you're inundated with interviews and people hounding you all the time that's the reason I think he ran out of the stadium I'm at the final show before he died. He was just tired of being hounded all the time. When you're the best drummer in the world I mean come on man you got everybody and their grandmother following you around trying to ask you questions and the man is very private and you can tell by this interview he's just trying to get it over with
Neil is notoriously shy, but give him a chance to talk about an issue he's passionate about, and he'll be the friendliest person in the world and talk your ear off. It's actually a trait that many shy people like me share.
John Cougar "Neil had been sailing on his sailboat in the British Virgin Islands during a 10-day break and missed his original flight" thanks to that a 16 year old got tear gassed 3 times in one night plus other forms of police brutality. it was 5 years before i went to another concert.
RIP fella, the music is eternal, what a gift he gave us.
For a guy who dislikes interviews, he sure gives a great interview.
Can we talk about how lovely his speaking voice was?
This man narrating the phone book could've made it interesting.
I miss you Neil Peart. It has been hard for me to accept that you are gone. RIP beloved Neil xxxx
Tearing up at 7:10. We never know what lies ahead and just around the corner.... Miss you so much Mr. Peart
always my teacher, friend, father of intellect - how I feel the loss - and still
How can you not have the utmost respect for him? "I feel we have to earn our audience's respect each time"....that is what makes him, and RUSH in general..so GREAT!
Such a down to earth human being. A great conversation with a humble and talented artist. Enjoyed the interview.
Canadian legend. THE greatest of all time. RIP hero.
I never get tired of listening to Neil talk. I love his energy and in the end his interviews are the best for a 'shy' guy who does not like to do interviews. He actually had so much to say and was actually very transparent.
The music of Rush is the soundtrack to my life. Rest easy Neil Peart. You are definitely missed.
Probably the Best Band ever, in every way. Classy boys.
Like my fellow introverts, when talking about something they love they will talk your ears off.
😂😂😂😂😂 omg Rush the “best” band you need to see the psychiatrist
@@billloomis4975 silly comment
I love Rush, but you need to wear a helmet, son...

Of all bands lyrics to create a visual story in ones mind, Neil Peart's has always been the strongest to me. Great stuff, always takes me away.
With a heavy heart I would like to say to the family & friends of Neil Peart, you have my sincerest and utmost condolences! What a profound loss this is. The world is a little bit darker now without you in it Neil, you will be missed and never forgotten. 😢
Very eloquent with language. What an intelligent conversation...
One of the best drummers 🪘 obviously but so interesting he was so into motorcycles 🏍️…

Wow what a tremendous interview.....particularly poignant with the loss of this great man...rip Neil...bless you

Great interview. Great man. Inspirational. Thx for everything and keep it going in heaven friend.
Neil is so incredibly smart.

Great insights, wisdom, humor, and inspiration. I always enjoy his interviews when he is willing to do them.
I played as a Drummer since 16.... This Guy educate me so much Lyrics to0. I am now 52 .... I miss Neil , He was a part of my life since since I was 13
george should get a national award just for convincing Neil to do an interview :D:D
Not only that, he should get an award for conducting a great interview by putting someone like Neil at ease that he actually wanted to talk. Neil was well known for cutting stupid interviews short.
Excellent interview. Neil was a bright spark.
Thanks for posting this. Neil is my favorite lyricist in rock. Sensitive and thoughtful and intelligent. As I have grown older I have not outgrown the things he writes about.
I miss Neil. So touching how he felt such a responsibility to the audiance to earn the fan with every show. I miss the writing as much as the music.
As well as being the best drummer in the world & such a fantastic lyricist , he was just such a beautiful human being. His wisdom inspired me from childhood, I feel privileged to have seen Rush many times here in the UK. We will always miss you, Neil. x
What a wonderful man.
WOW!, what a Soul!, This Guy cannot be followed! MAN, The Professor You are the Best!, In My books!, ( Thank you for everything!)
What an eloquent man ; his thoughts on KISS. Ace and Peter in particular were very sweet.
Rush's last alum was as great as there first. Great Music and great guys all the way thru. Saw them at Nassau Coliseum during the Signals tour.
Huge hole left on The Stage now. Ride on Neil.
I would have loved to have ridden with him along his way just for a bit, to see the USA the way HE saw it, from his perspective. Would have been cool..
Absolutely true!!😊
Great, entertaining interview. All hail Peart!!!

his vocal syntax is in triplets, stream of consciousness what a genius. Will miss rush
Neil is notoriously shy, but give him a chance to talk about an issue he's passionate about, and he'll be the friendliest person in the world and talk your ear off. It's actually a trait that many shy people like me share.
RIP to a legend
Great drummer. I can see Tom Hanks in his face occasionally
Lol it happens to me all the time
he wasn't a mere mortal. He was sent by the gods to hone his craft and then was summoned back to Olympus.
I'm crying .
How many people realized that Neil was 6' 4" tall?!
Rest in paradise sir
🎉🎼👏❤🎶🎈🎊 Love Rush!!!
Two guys that both struggle with people getting their last names right. :)
Class act
Opps not Tom hanks
Also just like Neil I am petrified of flying. Lol I have done it in the Corps but was shitting my Pants the entire time. Don't tell anyone lol.
The smartest man ever in rock !!!!!
RIP so shocked
Why didn't you include the intro?!
Whoever thought Kiss and Rush would become best friends because those 2 bands are radically different from each other!
The master !!
This man is a legend! But I gotta say he looks a lot like Tom Hanks nowadays lol
now we know who's gonna play Neil in the potential Rush biopic. :)
that's exactly what i thought when i saw the video thumbnail
VengefulCanadian Tom Hanks x Kevin Spacey x Randy Quaid
Let's not forget Mitch Mitchell !
Neil wouldn't I imagine, but lots of people do. All they gotta do is listen to Hendrix In The West.
Such a strong powerful voice, im jelous.
Classy guy... Nice speaking voice too, almost like a broadcaster ...
I bet he's hung like a mule.😋😍
Think about this, Chad Smith has Will Ferrell as a twin and Neil Peirt has Tom Hanks as a twin
you're seeing things... 🤣
Dead men still speak!
#RUSH4EVER ❤
he says "I've never been late to a sound check or show" BULLSHIT i know what tear gas is thanks to him missing his flight.
Mike Cates late =/= missing a show due to unforeseen circumstances!
John Cougar "Neil had been sailing on his sailboat in the British Virgin Islands during a 10-day break and missed his original flight" thanks to that a 16 year old got tear gassed 3 times in one night plus other forms of police brutality. it was 5 years before i went to another concert.
I'm not even gonna attempt to pronounce the host's last name.
Easy peasy. It's struum-buu-lo-puu-los
Solaris Blueraven hehe
Not many geniuses , Fripp Zappa Squire Wakeman ......Peart Don't die guys , stick around
huh? 🙄
George is so pretentious...
He's got a big red drinkey nose .
If you played in rush for 38 years, you'd have a "drinky nose" too.
He likes "The Macallan" . Maybe a little too much.
I bet it is sunburn from riding. I don't think it is gin blossoms
Great drummer, but horrible lyricist.
Really? He wrote some of the most important lyrics that have ever been written in rock music. Sorry Herman but you are dead wrong there.
Re Ality Important? To who?
Herman Melville To me, for example :v. Freewill, for example, is one of the best messages I ever head in lyrics
haa look here people its a shithead
+Herman Melville You have to be intelligent to understand the lyrics, otherwise you'll be lost, keep listening, you'll get it.
