Perry was indeed unbelievable but my favorite, and there were many that I liked, but Lou Gramm for me was one of the best. He had not only the technical ability, but he had an enormous amount of emotion in his delivery.

I agree with you about Lou Gramm. He took his voice to such a level few could match. He's my biggest vocal influence.

Played in a band with Ronnie for a couple years. The guy could sing anything….anything! He’s a nice as he is talented. Kansas found a gem! Love you buddy!

Steve Walsh, Steve Perry, Paul Rodgers, Brad Delp, RJD...just off the top of my head.

None of 'em hold a candle to the Legendary Stardust Cowboy. Give Paralyzed a listen some time if you want to know what singing is really about.

All great singers. I will add a few: Geddy Lee, Rik Emmett, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Freddie Mercury. I think it is easy to forget the gold mine of great vocalists that the 70s and 80s produced.

Ronnie James Dio. He sang two songs on Kerry Livgren solo album "Seeds of Change" and he was magnificent on them. Best vocalist I ever heard in my life.

Those first two Kansas LPs were in constant rotation in my teen years, In addition to the first few Journey records. 🤘🏼
Sweet and Simple... ☺️ I get chills just thinking about that song.

Sorry, but I still think Steve Walsh, at his peak, was better than anyone else. Kansas' music was much more complex and challenging, overall, than Journey's and Walsh was much more diverse and did Kerry Livgren's great lyrics justice in a way no one else could. Just think of Lamplight Symphony.

I love your podcast.I am 61 so we grew up during the same time periods and love all the same great bands of the 70's,80's and beyond.I would love it if you could interview Todd Rundgren. He had a hand in inventing the first automated video ever "time heals" on MTV.Also the apple computer and first voices for the cell phone, besides being a great singer and guitar player, plus so many other bands he produced and was in the 2nd varying Ringo and his all stars and was the leader of that tour. The man has done so many things with music.please interview him, again love your podcast and thank you so much.

He notes Evolution… my favorite Journey album! Then he mentions Lay it Down… Ronnie is definitely a Journey fan! That is one of the best songs on Escape, Steve’s voice was unreal on that song.

That would be a miracle. I run Steve Walsh’s Fan Group on FB. I have a background in writing/editing/publishing for 30 years. I tried to get an interview. Found out Steve really disliked doing interviews, and no longer does them.

So glad Ronnie joined Kansas. He can hit the notes that Steve Walsh could no longer hit, allowing the band to do songs that hadn't been done since(in some cases) the 70s

Completely agree with Ronnie’s assessment of Steve Perry on “Lay it Down”, although I’m also a huge Steve Walsh and Kansas fan. Sometimes I wish we had a Time Machine we could get in to go back to see these bands at their prime but it’s very cool when singers like Ronnie are doing a stellar job at keeping the music alive.

Ronnie's singing in my humble opinion lacks the emotional interpretation that the greats like Walsh, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler, Lou Graham, Geoff Tate, Dio, and Elefante. I like Ronnie but i prefer the work of Walsh and Elefante.
