- Stephan Kesting (www.grapplearts...) shares a powerful half guard sweep you can use when your opponent has put you into a bad position and is about to pass your guard. For more information on the half guard as an offensive attacking position on the ground also check out www.grapplearts...
I'm brand new to BJJ, and this is no joke, but getting on this guy's mailing list and subscribing to his channel is the most helpful thing I've done to help me get off on the best possible start.
You're an awesome teacher! About 15-20 years ago I bought some instructional DVDs from you. Can't believe you have so much content on youtube now.
Dear Stephan,I just wanted to say:THANK YOU!!!
I did this in class and got it on my first try, went realy smooth!
I even dragd his knee close to me using my knees... man you ROCK!
Ey man. I´ve seen a lot of your videos, they´ve helped a lot. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, you are an amazing teacher.
probably the single most effective half-guard sweep on youtube. Thanks!
Excellent as always. Kesting is an amazing teacher.
I would love to study under him. He doesn't get all convoluted with his explanations and gets straight to the point. So far, all of his content I have reviewed is as solid as any available and often times far superior to others
I love that added technique! I've realize I've done this a few times, but not until I see someone recognize it as a technique. Just knowing this will keep it in my mind. Thanks Stephan!
this is the kind of technique that I like, simple, esy to learn and effective, thank you
This is a great tutorial. The secret detail did not disappointment
This is another of a gajillion terrific tips you have in your videos Stephan and I'm going to use this idea for the Kamikaze Sweep asap. I've used a version of this tech already but the details you and Ryangle supply are of the first importance. Thanks guys.
Very solid technique, especially with the added leg movement. The judo style "big wheel" motion with the hands on the ground is a great way to break their balance and finish the sweep. Thanks for the vid!
Excellent and very high percentage sweep... been using it a lot, thanks for the excellent instruction and details Stephan!
Just drilled this a couple of weeks ago. In practice, it seems like it mostly serves to create some space to get the underhook, since usually people post out to avoid the sweep. And who doesn't want an underhook, right? :) Great stuff -- thanks!
People usually post out but I always use it to get out of a bad position and regain my half guard! Def an important sweep to have in your arsenal!!!
since watching this video months ago, i've sweeped so many of my fellow white belt practitioners countless times!!! awesome technique that works really well!
im yet to try this on someone more experienced, but i'm sure if done properly, it will catch some of them by surprise, thanks a lot!!!
wow this is an awesome simple sweep
Thanx so much Stephan I kept getting caught in half guard and found myself using the leg hook to prevent a bad position from getting worse by not letting them pass but didn't have much else I could do from there besides that. Can't wait to try the clothesline one because as you said if it doesn't work I can still use it to get the underhook and then take the back.
cool sweep. good to know if your opponent bases with the arm the same side they're being swept to, you can regain a better position.
FINALLY, a sweep i already knew...a milestone
Great detail on getting the knee closer!
great sweep, so simple yet so effective!
Liked and subscribed. This looks totally doable and high probability. Thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge.
Stephan is such a nice guy you can tell
Great technique. Thanks a lot from Brazilian Fans. Reading you book. It´s very good.
You sir are the man for this!
Awesome details, Stephan! Thanks a lot
Thank you Master Jedi.
Great stuff as always Stephan!
Excellent knowledge shared. Thank you.
Thanks Stephan!
this was extremely useful, gonna use it tonight in training!
cheers, Stephan, keep up the good shit, as always!
hip rotation is money! thanks a bunch
not too difficult and very applicable, thanks!
@jamiegee123 you push the face with the bizeps. It should hurt less than it is annoying to your opponent and forces him to move his face sidewards. You need to push the face since thats the weakest point to attack with your right hand as seen in the video. Pushing the neck will not move the body of the opponent sidewards because the neck has more power to ressist your right hand push.
Very Nice and practical.
this truly is amazing
I like this sweep cuz you don't have to be up on your side to do it. I get stuck here a lot with guys that have a good amount of weight on me. The thing that makes this sweep good is that the bigger they are the easier it is :)
Really good advice
I love this guy.
you ARE using the force!
Same here, JEdi Powered. Great Detail there, Thank you!
THANK YOU.... SO MUCH STEPHEN 🙇♂️
Love your breakdowns very informative, Thanks keep it up!
great detail
" it's not the force , i hate to break it to you . I don't want emails from potential Jedi's . " I love this guy . :)
Great video. Thank you.
@akums47 depends on what level your talking about. Its much longer than just learning one martial art because, as im sure you know, mma ( mixed martial arts ) uses various styles....the most common of which are boxing, kick boxing, wrestling, and brazilian jiu jitsu as well as others. So as i said above it depends on what you consider " learn" to mean. You learn some math in grade school and you can say you learned how to do math but you can keeping learning more.
Stephan can you show Minotouro Nogueira sweep vs Tim Sylvia?Minotouro used it in a lot of fights!! THANKS GREAT VID!!!
Cool sweep.
@iLuvAniime My brother-in-law is a drill instructor at Parris Island. MCMAP (Marine Corp Martial Arts Program), includes many Brazilian Jiu-jitsu techniques and Judo throws. Hate to break it to you, but Marines grapple.
this looks nice im gunna try this next class if i can :D
Thank you
Very interesting, thank you
nice sweep
Awsome breakdown, thank you!
@gboyhitdaspot Why wouldn't it? Most nogi techniques are applicable to both. Gi techniques don't always work across both though as your grips and control techniques are different.
thank you, thank you ver much
Very good
hi prof stephan i was wondering if you are still teaching in greater van? i just moved here and would love a chance to learn from you
you vides continue to help my game thank thank you-osu
wow, very nice video there, and i liked the jedi Force lol, great video
Thanks for theach
Good stuff
@Chrisfallen Cool! Thanks!!!
kickass.
Stephan hit higher on the head at his sweep. Is that important for leverage in the sweep?
Thanks great video
awesome expertizing
why does no one ever sweep to the side that you have the leg hooked on. I mean, you already have the leg neutralized from bridging, and you can easily either a) grab the arm on the same side, or b) half the time they already do the work for you by putting their arm behind your head.
AWESOME
one question is it allowed to hit your opponent with your bicep?
Question, is that move a sweep or reversal. Because both fighters remain in the same position, that makes it a reversal. right!?
nice!!
Reaaaaalllyy nice !!! Man !! \o/ !!
will this not hurt there face its like a strike ? i just dont want to wack a training partner
could this work from mount? i doubt it but you never no
its magic
nice
@akums47 To fight in an actual mixed martial arts scenario I.E something like UFC it would take roughly 4 years to even truly consider it, but breaking down different components of it you could probably get away with doing it in half the time. I.E kickboxing or Jiu Jitsu, at least as far to my knowledge correct me if i am wrong someone.
I dont want emails from potential Jedis! haha nice sweep!
will this work with gi too?
i will be working on this now. jedi sweep!
like this a lot !!!
You have to trap his far tibia with your feet and bridge towars your left. It is in the Pedro Sauer curriculum.
Nice nice
Awesome! Cheers~! :3
Like times a thousand!!
Way to use adjectives in the title! :P
Whats on your mind chief?
This is MMA based Gracie Jiu Jitsu though... hence the no gi...
@iLuvAniime Also,anime.
How can this work against multiple opponents?!
+SuperPurgatorio Well, it can't... Another opponent will kick your head off while you pinch your knees together...
So BJJ is uneffective.
+SuperPurgatorio well, it's Sport bjj. this particular sweep can't be used against multiple opponents. The first thing you should know about fighting 2 opponents is you don't want to fall to the ground...
Well, BJJ is uneffective ground ball licking
+SuperPurgatorio Weak troll.
Activating Sharingan.

dat lisp
haha i´m gonna use ´´the force´´ xP
Thanks, but I'm a jedi.
@iLuvAniime nice troll attempt but everyone knows the marines and all US forces learn bjj
It sounds like his tongue is made of paper!
I hope you don't train
