Really helpful sweep. Detailed break down by Master Ribeiro.

damn i've learned this move twice and no one at my gym ever does it. because we're doing it wrong. i can only do it on a smaller guy, NEVER a bigger or same sized opponent. the details really help, especially the trap to make them lean forward. i always try moves even if i fail, but the lack of a setup or bail out made me avoid this move. awesome.

one of the reasons I love these videos so much is your attitude
I find even in Jiu jitsu ... people with a massive ego and something to prove
love the videos and keep them coming ! :)

Brilliant, just watching the details and the angle he's in while in half guard is the key I think. I'll be experimenting. Thank you 🙏.

@13ek5ensei Yes - that's exactly what you do. But in a no-gi or MMA context you have to be very careful about using his bridging-scissor-sweep-from-half-guard setup attack: without controlling the sleeve you might be vulnerable to leglock attacks!

This is really really cool, and works well with another sweep we've been working on from a Knee on Belly reversal. I love your questions and your stuff in general Stephan. Always a pleasure.

I love this sweep, I didn't know what it was called though. I learned it from watching Robson Moura videos and then my instructor also showed it to me one day after class. I like his detail about gripping underneath the sleeve. Dragging the opponent's arm across seems to be the most challenging part of this sweep because no one wants to let you extend their arm like that.

Very very smoove sweep! I definitly have to learn this one. And it looks like vitor does it without using any energy...

@StephanKesting the setup sweep he's using is traditionally the first sweep taught in the 93 Guard series (via Robson). and in my experience, it does leave your leg very exposed to a heel hook. that being said, proper heel hooks require that you control the leg being heel hooked with both of your own legs and this is definitely NOT a given with the 93 Guard sweep. sounds like a good question for Shaolin and Robson! :)

@MrBesouroVerde Not the Shaolin sweep itself! I think that's pretty leglock proof. But if you were to try the setup sweep that Shaolin uses at about 5:40 in a no-gi situation then I think you'd be getting heel hooked or ankle locked in short order. But with the gi you're pretty safe, and I'm sure that Vitor Shaolin has a different setup he'd use in a no-gi context

A HUUGE THANK YOU ! been looking for a detailed break-down of this move for some time now ! .. and please forget what they tell you about short videos , THE LONGER THE BETTER ! we want the small details that make out jiu jitsu invisible !

For No-Gi I have modified this to grabbing the bottom of the wrist and gripping the ankle or the outside of the knee. For me, the underhook tends to make it too tight then I don't have a lot of leverage to roll the guy on top and it also makes it harder to follow him over and take the top

Stephan, often when I go for this I manage to extend their arm, but fail to load their weight up on my shins/knees. The result is my opponent kind of stretched out horizontally in front of me. I've experimented from this position a bit by trying to swim under the leg I have the pant grip on to kind of to kind of a deep half position, but is there another way I can capitalize on this off balancing? I've wondered if extricating the inside leg and going for a back take is viable. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!
