    I dont get the whole swap thing, like.. I understand if you didnt know what you were getting.. like a whole surprise thing. Sounds fun, but when you actually tell the person to get you something and they are gonna send you something... why not just use that money to get it yourself LOL

      Kitty Cat mentioning the channel name of someone who's notorious for scamming via swaps is hardly bullying, and it isn't trolling. They're not here to cause an uproar. They're simply asking if it was the same girl that multiple youtubers have called out and accused of scamming.

  • @airazd
    @airazd 10 лет назад +14

    I did a very successful swap, our budget was $30. It went great it was simple and sweet, we are still friends. We have sent each other items since then. Your first mistake was doing a swap that expensive. Speaking of scamming, years ago I got scammed by a company you hosted a giveaway for, I won. Never got anything the company never wrote me. I'm fine that's ok, you should definitely be more careful next time.

    • @girlyshopaholic

      Im not saying makeup swaps are a bad thing, I recently did a very sucessful one myself. Im very sorry you did not get your giveaway price, Unfortunately, I emailed the company numerous times but I will again. That is not in my control.

    Rules?
    1. You knew your scammer for 2 years apparently.
    2. Set a budget... like you did.
    3. Setting dates is unimportant to someone who doesn't plan on sending anything.
    I understand this video was intended to educate and help other people, but I don't think the effectiveness is there. Personally, I think the "tips" could be altered.
    1. Prior to doing a swap, get their phone number. Call them. If they can't afford a few minutes on an international call, how are they going to afford international shipping? Having someone's number is much more personal. It's much more difficult to block someone with a phone.
    2. Know who they are. Have they got plenty of RUclips videos? Can you FaceTime/Skype them? If they don't feel comfortable doing this or maybe they have stolen the videos. Get the person to confirm their identity, a copy of a licence (this should also state the address which if you're sending it to them, shouldn't be an issue - they can cover everything else), a picture with a requested hand-drawn note. Something.
    3. Make sure they link their name, email address and phone number. This way, denial in saying "that wasn't me" can't happen easily. With that, in writing (email), get them to confirm the budget. I understand someone not wanting to go higher, but why would they want to go higher?
    4. In Australia, you can get tracked postage, registered postage or signed postage (they have to sign for it). There are many methods, especially with tracked postage that will allow either party to provide a number (not revealing details of the postage) to ensure that there is a package on the way.
    Now, you have their name, address, email address, RUclips account, phone number and proof of identity. If someone still insists on scamming you, it would take only a matter of weeks for you to use this information effectively and regain your loss,
    In the end, you have to the risk. Just as you do when donating to charity, buying clothes from certain brands, lending money or gifting money. Once the item/money leaves your hands, be prepared to lose it and have a backup plan. If you can't afford to lose it, don't let it leave you. Simple.

    You shouldn't swap with anyone you haven't known for at least a year, set a limit of no more than 50 dollars and if they want high end stuff tell them to buy it for themselves. why should you buy it obviously they dont have the money for the swap if htey are asking you to get it for them.

  • @babybott330

    My guess is that she was also scamming other people at the same time and was requesting specific items from each of you that others wanted. She's just waiting for some other poor girl to send her a NAKED2 palette so she can ship it along to you. These people are sad.

    She should have returned your items for sure. It's unfortunate but it's been happening tons on RUclips . That's why not to many ppl do them any longer . If you do swaps and there's a great chance that something might go wrong unfortunately it is at your own risk and not much can be done about it. I don't get it ?! Just go purchase hour own Saphora has online shopping as well most US based and even UK companies

    I know this is a old one now, but surely I cant be the only person who thinks its just plain weird to do a swap where you give each other a list of what you want anyway? I mean, Ive done some swaps in the past (not on here, on an internet forum) and they were low budget and a surprise for each other.If you have a spare $200 and there are things you really ancy it would be far less risky than entering into an expensive swap with someone you dont know?

  • @nmhowl8071
    @nmhowl8071 8 лет назад +2

    I'm sorry but none of these tips are going to prevent you from getting scammed. Only do swaps with people you know in real life. If you arrange to swap with someone you met online, be prepared to get ripped off.

    i used to have a closet account on ig, and i got scammed by a college student. we were suppose to do a trade and i shipped out a dress to her and she was suppose to send me a pair of jeans and never did. she said she had problems at school (most scammers usually say they're having problems w family or at school if they don't ship out your items.) i was so mad and annoyed. be careful who you swap/trade with!

  • @meganowens8246
    @meganowens8246 10 лет назад +1

    If they are asking for specific products that seems like a big hint they are scamming. They could just buy the products themselves if they were really planning on spending 200 dollars. Aren't swaps meant to be somewhat of a surprise?

  • @carly9339
    @carly9339 9 лет назад +1

    I will be honest about this, if someone was presuring me to buy something they so desperately want i would suspect something, if you are both agreeing $200(and agreed items) not just you sending stuff i don't see why she couldn't get it her self if it was taking time, she would have obviously had the money. i personally thought that swaps were sort of suprises, OR stuff you couldn't get in your country, and you would agree on an amount and send products you're after like makeup.

  • @BiatchWifProblemz
    @BiatchWifProblemz 10 лет назад

    1-Both agree online for a date to send
    2-On the date go to post office film yourself packing products into box, writing their name and address.
    3-Go online view each others videos.
    4-Film yourself sending away the box receiving receipt and send video online
    5-While still at post office jump online and make sure that person has sent you the video of them sending it away and receiving receipt. Another thing too is both parties should try to get a receipt for the package, destination and a description of products from post office. Have to be safe these days so many fakes out there.

  • @chaytonhalll

    The best thing to do is when you do your first ever swap, make sure that it is with a family member from a different country! That way you know their imformation, and so does your family!
    For instince, I'm doing a swap with my cousin, she lives in England and I live in Australia, its easier because I talk to her on Facetime, Skype, and she lives with my Nana and Grandpa, meaning that they could talk to her if I msged them about it IF she did scan me!
    That's just my steps to having a fair and good swap!

    I don't really understand swaps where you just buy things in stores and/or order things online for someone else and have them do the same for you. Why not just buy/order the items yourself? I can understand trades for things already owned, or having swaps when you can't buy certain things where you live. Why do people do this? I have been curious about this for awhile.

    I've said this a few times on YT; It's blind faith when you do a swap. I've done swaps and have had awesome experiences and made new friends. Never once did we agree upon a huge amount of money at first, just a couple of items. Foster a relationship and know names/addresses. If they are kids get the adults involved, insist upon it. Know that overseas shipping is going to cost more than the items within, also consider customs and VAT. If something seems wrong , it probably is.

    Agree that you both have to have a tracking number so the other person can see that the parcel has been sent and where it is at any given time. Be cautious people..

    I think people just shouldn't do swaps at all. Unfortunately. They should only be done with people who can be irreparably destroyed on RUclips for scamming and that just can't happen unless you're one of the big-name people. Sorry, too many scammers today and they're damn good at it. They'll put in all kinds of time gaining your trust and it's just not worth it...

    A way you can swap is let the person send the stuff first and then wait till they send it and when you get it send your package if they won't believe you then make a video of what your going to send.

    I would ask that the person your swapping with send you tracking, you could ask for personal references someone to confirm this person has done a successful swap before if they claim they have, ask for a picture of their ID with address or a piece of mail with their address and name, you could write up a contract and sign it and mail, email, or fax it before sending the swaps, you could get there cell number or home phone and talk or text for awhile before sending so that you have their contact info. There's lots of things to do to try and protect yourself and if they don't agree don't do it.

    After watching many videos like this, I've come to a conclusion doing swaps is pretty hard. The things I 'd do is firstly ask the person to take a picture of al lthe products they are sending me ( like the box with its contents), make them send it in a package with a tracking number. And I would only send her the box after I would've received mine. :)

    Don't feel bad I was scammed by a maggie mc ginley from Ireland. I should have known she was way to eager. I sent her all the items she wanted and I received nothing from her. When questioned she got nasty and refused to track my package and said I was upset because I didn't like what I got!!! Then had threatened to contact my job!!! What a nasty person.

      +Nurhayat Leon Guerrero a lot of products are exclusive to certain countries or cheaper in certain countries. To put it into perspective, a MAC Lipstick in the US is approx $16, the same lipstick in Australia is around US $30. Other products are cheaper in or exclusive to Australia/Europe (or even cheaper in certain states when you calculate the tax and stuff)

    • @imanleonguerrero2523
      @imanleonguerrero2523 8 лет назад

      Jessica Maree I guess you got a point. About that. Like here on guam we get a lot of Japanese tourist because of the american products they come here for all the name brand stuff. But it's hart to explain to them that you can not buy Avon, or Mary Kay. You have to order it .I collect doll's and sometimes .they don't ship it to guam. And then they say we will ship it don't make sense. But yah be careful and don't get scammed 😊 good luck to you.

    • @AshesMama
      @AshesMama 8 лет назад

      +Nurhayat Leon Guerrero People literally come to Guam from JAPAN to get American beauty products?? WHY??? No matter what, that's insanity, unless you're like, buying in bulk whole sale, but even so. I mean, if you have money to fly around the globe to buy makeup, you'd save yourself the hassle and expenses and just pay the premium from home. Doesn't Japan have really high end/extensive beauty products?
      And why Guam? Why would our brands be cheapest there? Some strange tax/currency benefit? Counterfeit? If the latter, you'd think they'd be flocking to China😷

    I don't understand about doing swaps and asking for specific things if you want specific things she can get them herself. I do swaps online but we don't ask for specific things the point of the swap is the surprise factor because you don't know what you will be getting. I get it putting guidelines like all high end or low end and deciding on a budget. But asking for specific items it no longer is a swap she can just go to the store herself and get it.

    im confused as to why anyone would do these swaps anyway. If you want something, just go out and buy it, that way you know you will get what you wanted. Plus, unfortunately, we live in a world with alot of dishonest people. It makes it hard to be able to do something fun, like i think these "swaps" are supposed to be.

      Alexandria Fluker Why cant they just get online and order whatever it is that is not sold in their country, straight from the company instead of relying on a complete stranger to go out and buy it for them, and hope and pray they dont get ripped off? It doesn't make sense to me. Its just like these ppl are asking to get screwed.

    These makeup swaps all seem like total scams. It seems if people really want to do these swaps that they should only do them with RUclipsrs that they’ve already done in person to person collabs with. As they already have a rapport built with each other...and a swap like that is just safer and keeps the working relationship. I understand that others want to swap with people from abroad where the products they can’t normally get shipped to themselves....but hey youtubers travel. Might as well strike up a friendship and video collab together, than later do a swap collab to get the harder to get products. All these random makeup swaps just scream scam

      Leonie: If you use PayPal invoices for your swap, you're well protected. If you don't end up getting your side of the swap, then you can file a claim through PayPal. If you're doing a true swap, and no money exchange is being made, then start with a small swap, and make sure that goes smoothly. Make sure you're given a DC# (delivery Confirmation.) If they won't do a DC, then swap with someone else. There are a TON of swap groups on Facebook, and many of those groups have feedback documents of it's members. Good luck!! :)
