Yes, as a white kid growing up in the south in the 50s and 60s, Dylan, Dr. King, Kerouac, the Beatles took me away to an awareness of the wider world.
Dylan sang this song at Dr. King's March on Washington in 1963.

Hi. I live on the other side of the world to you and am old enough to be your grandma. It's kind of a jolt to me to realize that there's a generation that probably has barely heard of Dylan, and especially of his astounding songbook of the 60s. (And beyond, of course)
Blowin' in the Wind? Well, if you could only choose one song that would be the one. As I watched you discover it, I felt relieved that the future may be in some good hands afterall. It gave me much joy to recognize in you a sensitivity and openness to important, universal ideas and ideals. There is much wisdom in heeding words from the past, to question and to learn. May I encourage you to keep exploring your world - be awed, be challenged, be connected, be delighted. I would be so proud if you were my grandson. 💛 🇦🇺

Like, love, or dislike this song, this captured how we were feeling in the middle to the last half of the 1960s. I was about 17 to 21. We were questioning what we were taught, what was the status quo in an uncomfortably bigoted (to us), divisive society, and why we had become fodder for those in power to pour into the meat grinder of Viet Nam. We all believed - across the spectrum of super-patriots to super-protesters, that what we said and what we pushed for would result in a truly just and peaceful society, once the older generation had either passed on, or passed from power. As I look at this time, 50 to 60 years later, the words which come to mind are those of Smash Mouth in 1997, from "Walkin' On The Sun: "Twenty-five years ago, they spoke out and they broke out
Of recession and oppression and together they toked
; And they folked out with guitars around a bonfire; Just singin' and clappin', man, what the hell happened?" Yeah. How did we get to where we are, given all the hope for society we had back then? What the hell happened?

So happy to see you healthy man! Dylan is THE poet of American music, he was 22 when he wrote this! He has a catalogue that is unmatched and hope to see more from you. "A Hard Rains Gonna Fall" is one of many I would recommend from him

Not without reason he received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016. The jury's justification .. "Bob Dylan receives the award for having created new poetic expressions within the great American singing tradition", it is stated in the jury's justification.

You have such a sweet soul! Love your reaction. I'm 70 years old and grew up listening to Bob. Keep in mind the era that this music was written......Viet Nam war raging, Civil Rights Movement, assassinations of JFK, MLK and RFK. Unsettling times to say the least. But Bob, never stopped searching for truth, ultimately finding peace in his faith. May you find your peace as well!!!

There was an old rumor that cops were burning down weed crops they found, which would make a huge cloud of smoke. According to the rumor truckers driving by would open their window. Supposedly that was the answer blowing in the wind.

First song I learned when I took up guitar. Interestingly, it inspired Sam Cooke to write "A Change is Gonna Come." as well as Ian Tyson's "Four Strong Winds."

An older schoolmate sat in a chair on stage and she nearly was expelled for singing this song at School Assembly. It was late 1960's and Vietnam War protests were ramping up.
