Hi Ross! Do you have a new links to which cables you are using with this new monitor for “cable management”? I’ve been inspired by your setup and want to build an identical one 😊
Awesome!! I love a good cable management setup. I’ve added affiliate links to every cable I’m using currently. Technically, the DC adapter I use with the Shinobi came with a cable that’s a little longer than I’d like, but I’m still using it as I haven’t found anything that’s better/more compact (yet).
@@photosbyjames_ that looks super similar to what I’m using here. Just with a different AC power input. But I haven’t looked into it fully so I can’t really give a full opinion.
Think I will pick this monitor up. I got a Viltrox and I just do not like the quality compared to my Shinobi 1. I am trying to find out if the AtomX cage and screen protector are the same for the version 2.
Just received the Shinobi II for use with my Sony FX3 (and often DJI Ronin RS3 Pro). I’ll often be using the USB-C port on the camera for controlling it with the gimbal - so camera control via the monitor will mostly not be useful for me. However - am I able to get a red border record indicator without both being directly connected to the USB-C of the camera AND be within the camera control page of the monitor? Used to using a SmallHD 702 Bright where the record indicator comes on regardless what else you are viewing on the monitor - and without being connected besides HDMI.
@@mOo84 good question - i just tested it out on this end, but it doesn’t look like any camera control is utilized through just the HDMI. So, if no USB-C is plugged in, you won’t get the red recording bars.
Hey I updated to the newest firmware but the 1, 2, and 3 switches still don't work on my A7SIII's which are also on latest firmware. Was there anything special you needed to set in the USB settings or something to get it to work?
@@finnkennedy5682 weird - I didn’t set anything special. Just simply updated it and turned it on. Do you have the same issues with being in the camera control menu & monitor control menu?
I have the same issue. I also have an A7SIII like in the video and my mode 1,2,and 3 are not switching after upgrading the FW. I have contacted Atomos but they are putting this back on Sony. I even sent them this video as a reference lol. Im like hey guys here is proof that its working for some and not others with the same camera model!
This is great. How about the battery drain when powering the camera from a V-lock going tru the Atomos? Some testers reported that although the camera seemed powered, the internal battery slowly drained and ended up depleting even though it was connected to the monitor. The tester was using an FX3. Did you experience that?
I've shot 2, 12 hour wedding days with this monitor (250gb of footage throughout the day) and haven't had a depleted battery at all. Granted, I wasn't continuously recording.. but, some takes were 30+ minutes. For what I do (multiple clips throughout an entire day) I don't see any battery drain at all.
I have experienced this as well. my 7SIII does show charging but the battery will still slowly deplete when connected to the monitor via V-mount battery. The battery may not deplete as fast as it would without being connected but. No, it will not remain at 100% from my experience as it would being plugged straight into the v-mount battery.
I don't know why are you thanking them? They should not launch a product with so many basics issues, but its far easier (and cheaper) for customers to be guinea pigs and find bugs than invest in proper R&D.
Exactly i am having issues with motion blur when using slog3 and lut. Atomos is replying real slow, 1 time a day. I feel like they released the shinobi ii too fast
If we are filming at 4K 60P, does the monitor still show the footage or we have to limit the video setting in the camera to 4K 30P in order to be able to monitor it? Also, can we review the footage on this monitor from the camera's memory card in the playback mode ? Thank you
Does this show the focus points tho? Like eye or face squares? Camera control or touch to focus doesn’t mean much to me, but being able to see what the camera is prioritizing would be great. Fan noise? Boot time?
@@photographyevolved no focus points shown on the monitor when in autofocus. Only thing you have there is focus peaking built into the monitor, but that’s different than what you’re wanting. No fan noise - there is no fan! Boot time is about 9 seconds.

I have a few videos on each monitor and have used both monitors daily over the last few months. For what I do, I prefer the Shinobi II

@@spencerfr1 They both have their place. But I will be using the Shinobi II on my main handheld wedding day rig from here on out. I’m still keeping the LH7P for larger sets when I need a loop HDMI out, or may need the camera control feature to be wireless.
Hi. Thanks for Your videos, you do a great job. Could you record a tutorial on how to update the shinobi ii monitor. Apparently auto focus is already available. Thanks.
My biggest gripe with Sony cameras and external monitors have been the cropped view when you want to see settings displayed on the external monitor. With the new shinobi, do on monitor settings reflect what’s happening when you change iso/aperture/shutter settings? So I know you can change them on the monitor, but wondering if you change on camera if it will reflect that on monitor screen. Essentially giving full monitor coverage while showing the camera exposure settings. Hope that makes sense!
@@AtomicPixel yes. With the way I shoot, I rarely adjust my camera settings on the monitor itself. I’m always handheld changing WB, ISO, Aperture with the camera and watching it reflect on the monitor. The Shinobi II is very fast with reading changes from the camera.
yes! I just pulled it out to check - it does work, however - to change the custom modes with the dials on the camera I need to toggle over to the "monitor controls" section of the monitor. The dials still do nothing when in camera control mode.
@@RossBarnett02 Mine does the same thing. Does the screen on your Shinobi II display flicker on and off for a brief second when you change the custom dials on your camera? I could not wait for the promise of FW updates. And I own an original Shinobi 5 and 7 as well as Ninja V+, never had any issues like the Shinobi v2. I do like Atomos products per se… but definitely not finished yet. Bit the bullet and bought SmallHD Cine 5. 😬

Can't wait for EL Zone :)
I haven't heard this is in the plans... but, I'm all for it. The more features the better!
@@RossBarnett02 they said it on a reddit review and on some instagram comments on their page!
@@RossBarnett02 They commented about it on a reddit review and on instagram comments that complained about the lack of EL zone since they have it in their other Atom OS11 monitors! They said they will add it in a later day, so hopefully they stay true to their words.
Touch to focus, El Zone, & Freeze Frame and that will be an untouchable 5" monitor
I would imagine before adding EL zone to the Shinobi they'll just add camera control to the Shogun/Ultra line. But, we'll see!
@@RossBarnett02 thanks heaps! Have you seen the new portrays bd1 dummy battery for monitor? Is this something worth looking into or nah?
@@photosbyjames_ that looks super similar to what I’m using here. Just with a different AC power input. But I haven’t looked into it fully so I can’t really give a full opinion.
Think I will pick this monitor up. I got a Viltrox and I just do not like the quality compared to my Shinobi 1. I am trying to find out if the AtomX cage and screen protector are the same for the version 2.
@@evansalina I highly doubt the cage is the same since the ports have changed and the Shinobi II is so much thinner.
@@RossBarnett02 that’s a shame considering all the Small HD monitors can do this just through HDMI 😕
@@RossBarnett02thanks ! This might be a deal breaker then
I have experienced this as well. my 7SIII does show charging but the battery will still slowly deplete when connected to the monitor via V-mount battery. The battery may not deplete as fast as it would without being connected but. No, it will not remain at 100% from my experience as it would being plugged straight into the v-mount battery.
@@DayedreamMediadid you try with different cables? If there is a battery drain… that’s a no go
I don't know why are you thanking them? They should not launch a product with so many basics issues, but its far easier (and cheaper) for customers to be guinea pigs and find bugs than invest in proper R&D.
@@Votjko all fair points. all fair points.
Exactly i am having issues with motion blur when using slog3 and lut. Atomos is replying real slow, 1 time a day.

If we are filming at 4K 60P, does the monitor still show the footage or we have to limit the video setting in the camera to 4K 30P in order to be able to monitor it? Also, can we review the footage on this monitor from the camera's memory card in the playback mode ? Thank you
You can record in 4k/60 - just have your HDMI output set to 4k/30 or lower. You can playback the files from a Sony camera just fine!
@@RossBarnett02 Thank You so much !! This definitely helps me make my decision

I’m so on the fence. The LH7P is nice but I keep finding conflicting reviews on fan noise and WiFi setup on each time. Plus the complaints of boot time.

@@photographyevolved I will say, the LH7P also doesn’t show your focus points. So, there’s pros and cons with both monitors. @@damian19-80 touch to focus is not available yet. Currently 11.01.01 is the latest version available on ATOMOS Site.

Is your Shinobi II still working correctly when you change the custom dials on your camera?
My screen flickers on and off for about two seconds.
I think this may be a bug within the software. Hopefully, Atomos can fix it in the next update.
@@dspoet1 mine does not, interested to see what your HDMI settings are to the monitor, do they change with each custom setting or are they all 3 the same output?
@@RossBarnett02 Output resolution is auto. HDMI resolution is auto. All three have the same output. What's weird is that when I set the hdmi resolution and the output resolution to 1080i, the Shinobi display doesn't flicker when I change the custom dials on the Sony A7IV.
