Great video; its wonderful to be able to "look over the shoulder "of a real musician, and watch his thought processes at work; many thanks.
Really cool and nice comment...thanks!
This is really something special thank you Kent. Really appreciate this fascinating insight into how you create innovative intros to standards. I'm learning so much from your videos the book and the drill sheets, from so many different angles, and hope in time it will all come together.
Another great comment, Stephen, you are a special fan for leaving so many encouraging comments...and they are very helpful to me..to keep going.
Ken, I am always really glad of the possibility to come back to your books, sheets and your videos. Thanks a lot. Stay healthy!
Inga from Germany
Glad you like them!
I can’t get enough of the way you demonstrate and teach. Incredibly valuable info to digest every single time. Thank you so much for making these videos!!!!!!!!
Thanks for such a nice comment, Richard, and very encouraging to me!
Hi Kent, this video is super helpful. I'd be keen on seeing how you would approach introductions for songs that begin in minor keys.
That's a great request.... I'll give that some thought. Thanks!
Been binge watching your channel Kent. You have provided us with such a treasure trove of knowledge and information.
I really appreciate you taking the time to share with us.
Thank you.
Wow, thanks!
Hi Kent you hip ol cat, I was feeling sorta stuck yesterday. Watching your videos really gave me clarity about what to focus on when practicing and helped me so much. Your Barry Harris transcription-video was excellent and big ups for the love you show him by doing the video now that he is going through difficult times.
You’re a great musician, a great human being and I can’t imagine you can receive as much back as you give to this universe. Have a fine day at the jazz ranch
Hi Magus, you are a hip cat, and I invite you into the exclusive "club" at the Jazz Ranch You understand me perfectly, and I appreciate that more than you know. I grew from squareness into the hip persona by hanging out with musicians and artists, so I had to learn it...it did not come natural to me...but the human aspect is natural to me...so thanks for acknowledging that.
Your lessons are always fascinating. I believe my playing has improved since I started watching your RUclipss - because you make the ideas that I have stumbled over in textbooks perfectly logical and musical. But I also love your quotes: always an inspiration. Thanks.
Hi Warren, you've said it all. in a short paragraph. exactly affirming what I'm trying to do. So blessings and good vibes to you, my friend.
Mr Kent H -your benevolence doesn’t go unnoticed -Sir- as you encourage and focus on giving rather than taking -Kent-
An effort to not dwell on what others can do and owe one-but rather concentrate on and
to ask- how can and may I-contribute so that others need not expect nor owe but rather contribute -
G- d bless and thank you for your gift in giving us
You are very astute and wise, Jacques. Because you understand where I'm coming from and appreciate it...I can not say that for everyone. So I'm sure I could learn things from you, if you will write to me an email. Thanks!
I always think it adds great value to a song if you compose an intro like you have in your examples. A good way to approach it is having the song in mind, use the rhythm of the melody to create a suitable melodic line to lead you into it, as you did in BB&B. This way you have something to work with that makes sense in that it's complimentary to the song.
Great comment and exactly correct...thanks!
Thank you for the tutorial. Been waiting years for the knowledge your dropping!👍👍👍
I'm happy I could do that for you....much more to come (with your help).
Good,good. ,thanx,Kent...
Glad you enjoyed it
Love the part about the "locked hands technique". Great video!
Thanks, Jay!
You amazing Kent. Thank you for your love and appreciation of great music.
Thanks for listening
@@KentHewittpiano88 You have helped me accelerate my playing and musicianship. Thanks again.
Love this guy!! So cool
Thank you!
that quote comes in handy quite often
I love hearing that, thanks!
I love your style.
Thanks!
I usually do it by saying, I'd like to introduce this song...
Like I say, "I'd like to introduce my 'alter ego'...he will speak for me!"

😆👌🏻
Outstanding, Kent. Thanks for doing this.
I appreciate the comment, Jack. Stay cool!
You are awesome thank you so much.
Thanks!
Gorgeous stuff, like always...
Thank you!
Another superb lesson Kent. Gosh you share so much with us - thank you. Loved the Antonio Carlos Jobim intros as I sing them all and play a couple but, of course, not like you !! Beautifully played and explained Kent. Very much appreciated, as always. Look very nice in your Blazaar by the way.:-)
It's time for me to start complimenting you, Corinne. You're very special. Write to me , and tell me your life story, I'd love to hear it.
How kind of you to suggest I share my story. Do you have time I wonder? ! ha ha ! I will indeed send you a little bio. About to watch your White Christmas:-)
Kent, thank you so much for making this video. Can't wait to watch it and take good notes!
You were the inspiration, Rachel...thanks!
Kent Hewitt you're welcome! It was a great video. Very helpful!
aaahhh...you've solved the mystery of the song I hummed to you the other day trying to find out what it was...played in a George Schering block chord style...it was I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU! great!
That's so cool...thanks!
@@KentHewittpiano88 Thank you Sir...appreciate your giving so freely.
The beginning jammer's worst nightmare after just calling a song? Alright, walk us in... 🙀. Very helpful indeed, thank you...!
Thanks, Donald...yes, we've all dealt with that issue at one time or other.
Amazing tips! Thanks alot.
Thanks!
S’wonderful insight .
Thanks ...as always, Richard!
Kent, many of these great songs like “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Love Is Here to Stay” have really beautiful verses that I think add to the story of the song. What is your approach to playing the verses and tying them into the rest of the song?
I played the verse in a couple of videos and talked about the importance of them, particularly for a vocalist...and to understand the meaning of the song deeper...as it would relate to the plot in a play or movie. Many of these songs were in films so the verse set up the main theme. Here's and example:

You’ve made the most educational music theory channel on RUclips. Thank you for such an informative video.
If you take request, could you make a video of Nikolai Kapustin’s key change techniques? Im thinking of his prelude no.23. I couldn’t wrap my head around how he changes the key every two measures so seamlessly. (The main theme is in F major. The part after that is where I’m talking about)
Totally in agreement with your comment. Mr Kent H has a gift/ ability to express and knowledge of his craft in addition to his awesome patience and genuine enthusiasm for us all to learn
Thanks so much, gentlemen. Johghun, I'm not an expert in classical music, although I studied it at UCONN. Please send me a link because I'd like to check it out. I did do a Chopin piece and compared it to Jobim...did you see it?
@@KentHewittpiano88 I will definitely check out the video you're referring to.
Here (ruclips.net/video/fyzomIOuo4s/видео.html) is the piece I'm talking about. I"m not sure how to section a piece but the 'chorus' starts at 0:23. Thank you very much!
Great. Thank you so much.
Thank you!
I always enjoy listening, thanks for the lesson. God Bless!
God bless....that's the best!
Thank you Sir!
Thanks!
i like the quotes at the beginning . noli irritare leones don't stir up the lions
Inspire thoughts and good actions, but don't stir up the lions!
Thank you.
Thanks!
Be U ti Full intros!!!
Keep jammin;, bro!

Blessings!
Swing loose. Swing hard. Swing often.
Swing loose to the end!
Swing loose 😇
Swing loose!
The intro is nothing more than showing your listener what made you write the song. "The very idea of you."
So are you saying the intro is important!?
@@KentHewittpiano88 Yes. The intro is the doorway into a piece. It should invite you into the room.
